Utah NBC Affiliate Won’t Air New Gay Couple Comedy ‘The New Normal’

I can add this to my list of junky shows that I won’t be watching.

This is great because as a Catholic I have the same views on gay marriage as Mormons do this is a great thing. Thumbs up to the Mormons who are stopping this show from airing. I remember watching a trailer for this show and it was despicable the storyline. Shame on NBC and all the people involved in creating this show it totally is smack in the face to all people who are against this issue. The name even is an attack “The New Normal” . Mainstream America wants to influence all young people that this type of behavior is perfectly fine. This behavior is awful. Kudos to the Mormon community to stop the airing of this show. Also this show will most likely be cancelled by the end of their first season. Just like all the other crazy NBC shows. Peace and God Bless

I’m glad that they’re doing this, but on the other hand another independent station here will be carrying it on weekends. My hope is that this new “sitcom” will fail in the ratings. One very good thing about Mormons is that they stick to their principles, although the secular world may laugh at them. Hopefully they will continue to do so and not “cave” in as many other churches have.

I would prefer not to see anyone “making out” in public. But, I can simply look away if confronted with such things in public, and keep it out of my home by making responsible choices.

Btw-calling other people derogatory names because they don’t agree with you doesn’t seem to be a very polite thing to do. We’re called to be better than those who do that.

You are concerned that younger adults cannot be exposed to different beliefs and societal dynamics than theirs without hurting their faith? Why do you have so little faith in bour brothers and sisters? Should they be kept in some kind of Christian cacoon?

What about College?

Off topic. Obviously supporters of gay behavior are very concerned about others not being exposed to what they dictate. College? Yeah, I’ve been there. I left because I couldn’t take the Leftist propaganda anymore.

A line has been crossed. And those faithful among us don’t need to be exposed to this or other sexual immorality.

Societal dynamics? You mean like making gay couples on TV the new normal?

Or making anti-religious beliefs on TV the new normal?

That is not at all what I was trying to say. And just for your information, I am in college at a big university. I was just saying that more action must be taken and that the younger generation, my generation, should get more involved with it. I am trying to do so as are some of my friends. I have faith in my Christian siblings but I just don’t trust the world, especially the media.

And you have many good reasons not to.

You know what is really amazing? Nobody has to watch any show that they don’t want to watch! That TV in your living room? It comes with this thing called a remote, and with that magic device you can change channels to something that doesn’t offend you, or you can even turn the TV off and do something else! YOU get to make all the decisions! You don’t have to wait for the government or the local affiliate to do it for you!

There is a cause and effect relationship going on here. Media, for the most part, dictates culture. But it’s crossed a line. The media has a duty to be a responsible part of the society in which they operate. They have, for the most part, abandoned their duty.

The same people who scream and yell about the “nanny state” when it comes to 32’ounce sodas want the government to be the parent and police media content for everyone. Doesn’t make sense to me.

There is no such thing as “adult programming.” If it was a sin to say or watch when you were a kid, it’s still a sin to say or watch when you’re an adult. How are we going to be good role models to our kids if they know, “I got up one night and they didn’t see me, but mom and dad were watching porn.”

And let’s throw out the “grow up” line. Sure, let’s watch things that are designed to be educational but let’s not make any excuses for TV shows that “contain important things.”

Just remember the father who told his kids he was making brownies. The kids were excited until he told them he’d be adding a tiny bit of a dog dropping. He guaranteed they wouldn’t be able to smell or taste it. So what happened? The kids refused to eat the brownies.

The government is not involved here. This is a business decision made by an independent business. They havedetermined that airing the show will cause them to lose more business then gain, so they have declined.

Their contract with the network allows them to do this. In other areas (and even in Utah, where another outlet will carry the show) people can individually decide to watch or not watch.

I can’t imagine this show being on air at all for long. The story will get stale after while, there isn’t really enough funny to say about the situation.

I understand your massive media conspiracy theory, but I don’t buy into it. The networks are about making money, and that’s it.

People watch the garbage the networks put on or they wouldn’t produce it. Banning “objectionable” things isn’t going to change one person’s heart.

The problem is that working to change people’s hearts is harder than signing a petition. It’s hard to lead people to God. They reject you, they make fun of you and you lose friends. You have to share yourself and your own journey and that makes you vulnerable.

For whatever reason though, that is what Jesus left us here to do. He left us with ONE job, to lead others to Him. The thing is, when we do that miracles happen. Lives are changed. If we all were able to lead one person to God and let Him change their life, a lot of these other issues we spend so much time fretting about would take care of themselves. We wouldn’t have to worry about banning TV shows because the market for them would dry up.

Controversy - what a useless word.

I think “controversy” is still a useful word. However, I agree that it really doesn’t apply to this programming decision by the Utah television station.

Every company has the right to make its own decisions regarding programming. Every company has a choice - except this one.

The right of the station to determine its programming has not be violated. Granted, some people have criticized the station’s decision, but that isn’t anything new. Television programming is often criticized by individuals or groups upset about the content of a show.

ABC Family will be have a program written my Jennifer Lopez about a lesbian couple and their diverse family called “The Fosters.” It is about two women "raising a 21st century, multi-ethnic mix of foster and biological kids.

ABC Family is a ruse designed to have parents let their TV guard down.
