Wow, less than 24 hours from “thoughts and prayers to the victims” to “how can we use this to make Trump look bad”…I wasn’t as far ahead of the curve as I thought…
Either Mr. Trump misunderstood what Mr. Khan had said or distorted it. During an interview shown on the BBC, the mayor said he was “appalled and furious that these cowardly terrorists would target” innocent civilians and vowed that “we will never let them win, nor will we allow them to cower our city.”
He went on to say that residents should not worry as they encounter more police officers patrolling the streets.
“Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days,” Mr. Khan said. “No reason to be alarmed. One of the things, the police, all of us need to do, is make sure we’re as safe as we possibly can be. I’m reassured that we are one of the safest global cities in the world, if not the safest global city in the world, but we always evolve and review ways to make sure that we remain as safe as we possibly can.”
Mr. Khan’s office later dismissed the president’s post, saying the mayor was too busy to reply. “He has more important things to do than respond to Donald Trump’s ill-informed tweet that deliberately takes out of context his remarks urging Londoners not to be alarmed when they saw more police — including armed officers — on the streets,” a spokesman for the mayor said in a statement.

DVD I would like to remind you again, I am not a professional debater. I am a husband and a father. I make an opinion based on my life experience and what I can possibly understand with my small little brain. Why do I have to watch every interview, read every transcript from the mayor of London for me to make an opinion that is valid for you?

It also begs the question. You have indeed seen all the interviews and read all the transcripts, right! Where do you get the time?
Actually if you take the time to read only a bit, just minutes, you find that:
  1. The mayor was out quickly and repeatedly with strong condemnations.
  2. The words that Trump attacked, came from an interview, in which the mayor was asked about what people might read into the presence of many additional forces patroling the streets of London. He reassured the populace that this should not be taken as reflecting an imminent threat.
  3. Trump’s tweet misrepresented the Mayor’s words. Not a good thing.
This information may not have led you to post differently on the matter. But maybe it would.

Yes. It really isn’t a case of “how can I make Trump look bad?”, it’s “how has Trump made himself look bad this time?”

Lou

…“how can we use this to make Trump look bad” …
You had your little Kathy Griffin moment on this one, but were quickly bailed out by Trump making your gaffe pale in comparison.

I expect most people who commented on Trump’s tweets would be far, far happier if Trump, by making commentst that were more Presidential, had not precipitated the world of responses.

Got to admit you may be right!

Trump is NOT a career politician. Yeah, he says some bonehead things, but you can see what he’s thinking. I just don’t want a qualification for future presidents to include ‘career politican!’

Common decency and compassion and empathy should be basic qualifications, like, oh, I don’t know, not attacking the mayor of a town that was just attacked by Radical Islamic terrorism (a phrase he refuses to say anymore despite demanding it of everyone else.) And he’s supposed to be “pro-life” – and tough on terrorism?

How about non-bonehead.

Trump is low on impulse control. Maybe he can still learn.

DVD what on earth are you talking about?

President Trump spoke against the “no reason to be alarmed” statement.
  1. The mayor was out quickly and repeatedly with strong condemnations.
Where on earth did you get that? When did President trump said the mayor commended the attack?
  1. …He reassured the populace that this should not be taken as reflecting an imminent threat.
Whah? Even Englands Prime Minister said “Enough is Enough”. That means that this is way over their heads. It needs to be dealt with in the now with a sense of urgency. Sound the Alarms. Come together. When do you think this will be an imminent danger? When London does not exist?
  1. Trump’s tweet misrepresented the Mayor’s words. Not a good thing
The Mayor said “Do not be alarmed” how was that misrepresented? They have every reason to be alarmed. England needs to unite, and fight this together. Enough is enough. Report every suspicious act you see. Be vigilant, and proactive. Be on you guard.

Has it crossed your mind that people might find President Trump reaction more reassuring? A president who gets me over the fears that I have which are not being heard. Sure, you may not have a reason to be alarmed. But many people do. And they want action.

DVD what on earth are you talking about?
Try again, but not limiting the quote to “do not be alarmed”.
As long as you hold to that as the sum and substance of the the quote, there cannot be a honest discussion.

ok so you obviously know something that I do not know. Please provide me the facts that you have so I can be educated.

Trump and Khan have History. It goes back a little way. Trump was trolling Khan in a very unacceptable way. That’s it. Go research their History, Then make a critical decision. Trump is totally out of line in tweeting commentary. He needs to become a leader and leave his trolling ways behind .

So instead of trolling, how about applauding the fact all 3 perps were shot dead within 8 minutes. What other leader in any other part of the globe can say , we got this, we got our response pretty effective.

Any idea how many lives that saved?

If Trump could get out of his own way long enough, he might investigate and put into practice a few of the London response methods.

That still does not inform me of anything I had already known. President Trump responded to “Do not be alarmed”

My question is that DVD alluded to the President suggesting the Mayor somehow “commended” the attacks. I have not read any of that. So I am asking for a statement which that happened. I can not find it.

I think you may have misread dvdjs’s remarks.
