Venezuela president Maduro ‘detained journalists’ after they showed him video of people eating rubbish
Nothing harsh about it. The people support the revolution, and if foreign meddling continues the workers councils will respond in kind.I know this sounds harsh, but the people of Venezuela unwittingly voted for this. They got what they wanted.
So in the case of Venezuela it applies. When legitimate, respecting the warranties in place for elections to be free, transparent and fair, your principle may apply…
If we start the same policies here as they do in Venezuela, we will become much like them. Taxing and confiscating the property of the wealth creators made them leave the country. No wealth creators->no jobs, no money, no goods and services. You want to hear something frightening? Many here in the USA want this same brand of socialism! Just look at the popularity of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez! What a wacked out country we’ve become!![]()
I’m namely talking about why Maduro is president now, he does not seem to be a legitimate president. You should probably make an effort to learn some of the details before declaring the victor of an election certified by 150 foreign observers in a country with what many (including Jimmy Carter) call the best voting system in the world “illegitimate”.
If winning a legitimate presidential election is not enough to be considered legitimate president then frankly who cares?I’m namely talking about why Maduro is president now, he does not seem to be a legitimate president.
Good article. Thanks.I’m namely talking about why Maduro is president now, he does not seem to be a legitimate president.
Jimmy Carter gets it wrong on Venezuela, again – Foreign Policy
Looks like others have different opinions and that is for the 2012 election. I don’t think Maduro is a legitimate sitting president now.
You are talking about the 2012 election, not the 2018 election. Jimmy Carter commented on the 2012 elections, not 2018.If winning a legitimate presidential election is not enough to be considered legitimate president then frankly who cares?

This is like saying Trump is an illegitimate president if the Democrats didn’t put a candidate forward and told all their voters to stay home and Democratic voters stayed home. Very silly if it wasn’t being used to start a civil war that will kill thousands.
Thank you, Victoria.I’m namely talking about why Maduro is president now, he does not seem to be a legitimate president.
