I worked last night, so I didn’t vote, but I’ve now seen enough clips to wonder how 27 (!) people here have voted for a man who displayed classless, boorish, childish behavior—even laughing while Ryan discussed the Benghazi atrocity in which our ambassador was assassinated. Where are your standards? Just wondering…Rob
Good point. I agree with Charles Krauthammer’s analysis.

Biden won if you heard the debate on radio. The debate was even if you read a transcript of the debate. Ryan won if you watched the debate on TV.

I have to give Lunchbox Joe this…he has really shiny teeth.

Not sure how that comes into play as a qualification for Vice President…but…there you have it.
Did you see the comment by a reporter that sunglasses were necessary? YIKES…he’s always looked a bit toothy but last night was really extreme. Being in the biz I can say the Botox went into the wrong spot. You can easily get the Joker look when taming crows’ feet. The political cartoons will be interesting.

I think like the Kennedy/Nixon debate it would depend on whether you listened or watched. I listened to about the first 20 minutes driving home, watched the next 40 minutes and then missed the last part although will watch later today. Biden’s antics were not obvious on the radio obviously but once I started watching, it was driving by a car accident…I kept looking at the split screen and the various mugging, giggling and other Biden antics. Is he REALLY laughing about Libya and Iran…

As to the substance, I noticed he just lied and blustered over Ryan. I think he was trying to get Ryan to react more forcefully or lose his cool. That didn’t work although I don’t think Ryan landed enough punches to be a clear winner.

BTW I heard that the Romney clear victory was VERY unusual. Apparently most debates are decided on partisan lines and usually quite even. So if this is declared a draw or even a slight victory by one side or the other, it’s basically typical of the response.

RACJ, we do not own a television so I could not watch the debate. And we have dial-up, so watching vids on the internet is out of the question.

So, I have to ask you…did Joe Biden really laugh when Ryan discussed the Benghazi debacle?

Classless behavior is Paul Ryan telling a story about kids paralyzed in a car crash to a man who lost his wife and daughter in one.
Just how is that classless, exactly? Just because I had a son that died means that noone around me is ever supposed to talk about children who die? I imagine that Biden would be sympathetic to the story of a man who suffered a tragedy and Romney going out of his way to help the family.

I think it was more of a nervous tick than a chuckle of amusement.

Some people have the awkward habit of laughing when someone says something we are uncomfortable with.

I heard that too, and 100% agree. I was tooling around on the computer while it was on in then ext room. I heard about 1/2, and actually watched about 1/2 of the debate.

He didn’t do it in the Palin debate, though (that I recall).

He has been on record for the last 4 years repeatedly inserting his foot in his mouth…He wasn’t that carefully scrutinized while he was a Senator from the obscure state of Delaware.

No but two things, one I think Biden knew that if he were so nasty to Sarah Palin, a woman, he would be seen as being a total boor. Also last time Obama wasn’t coming off of a terrible performance where he was seen as passive and disinterested. I think Biden simply plays the role assigned. This time he needed to be an attack dog to stop the bleeding from Obama’s base who were demoralized and discouraged.

One pundit said it shows real concern by the Obama campaign that they felt they need to appeal to the base and they are concerned with the ‘stay homes’ who won’t come out this time. It is essential that Obama get at LEAST as much support from various groups he carried last time to win. If any of them become disengaged, he is more likely to lose. Clearly he has lost a lot of the youth vote. I think he’s lost some of the Jewish vote, the Catholic vote, and even socially conservative blacks. Turnout elected him last time and it’s his only hope for this election.

Biden followed orders.

Agreed. Note that the media didn’t concentrate on Ryan, but on Biden’s performance. The proper phrase is “There’s no such thing as bad publicity” and Uncle Joe demonstrated that.

I agree with your analysis. And he is indeed down in enthusiasm with all those groups. You can tell by the Ohio early voting this time vs last time.🙂

So now it appears that a vote for Romney/Ryan includes a vote for abortion when it is due to rape, or necessary to save the mother’s life, etc.

I heard Paul Ryan say that during last night’s debate with my own ears!

There are plenty of people here who believe that voting for any candidate who is even slightly pro-abortion is a mortal sin.

So who are you going to vote for, Donald Duck?

This is a good analysis! Thank you for posting this link. FWIW I don’t like listening to Medved but I think he did a great job in putting this debate into context, into history and contrasting this performance with the debate against Sarah Palin.

His final conclusion is that while Biden is known to be a gaffe-omatic, living with chronic foot in mouth disease, he’s always come off as likeable despite the verbal missteps. But Medved concluded that the incredibly rude behavior, the inappropriate guffaws, the falsehoods were a real turnoff. Again the woman factor, two women quoted said he reminded them of abusive men in their past with his dismissive, demeaning behavior. I maintain this was a real loser if he was trying to get the undecided, middle of the road voter.

As Rich noted though, perhaps the objective was a bright shiny object to get our eyes off the abysmal Obama record, Benghazi, and the Romney/Obama debate. We aren’t talking about important things are we?

Bishop Gracida and other Bishops say if there is no perfect choice on abortion, you vote for the lesser of 2 evils, the person who can save the most lives. Obama supports unrestricted abortion, homosexual marriage and embryonic stem cell research - 3 intrinsic evils. Romney/Ryan support abortion restrictions, reversal of roe v wade and opposition to 99% of abortion. It is clear who the lesser of 2 evils is

A vote for Obama is a vote for unrestricted abortion paid for by you, Joe Taxpayer.

Why talk about Benghazi, Fast and Furious, Solyndra, or the emerging donor scandal when we can talk about Uncle Joe’s teeth?

Biden’s condescension and grinning did not seem to come off as likeable to the focus groups of undecided voters

Ask Penn State if that’s true.

Or Richard Nixon.

Or Gary Hart.

Or Larry Craig.

Or BP.

Please. You can spin this as good publicity, but very few in the media, and very few polls of any demographic except committed Obama voters, think this was good publicity for the ticket.
