Really? So it’s okay with you that the Vice President of the US lacks the self-discipline to keep from grinning and chuckling to himself when someone expresses a difference of opinion?
Yes, it is. Its certainly better than what we see in most parts of the world when political disagreements happen. They end in fists or random objects being thrown or worse. Let the man chuckle.
I have to wonder if he does this with foreign dignitaries. Does he do this when he and (his best bud) “Be Be” get together?
Its undoubtedly happened. You don’t actually believe that Presidents and Vice Presidents never express any kind of frustration or anger towards foreign dignitaries do you?

The American public likes class. Biden does even know what it is.
What will Women take away from this debate?

IMO
Everything women hate about male chauvinism- Mr Biden presented… AND that is what will be remembered. Snarky, condescending, rude, and twisting of facts to meet his ends of belittlement.

He needed to gain the womens bloc momentum for Mr Obama - He turned them off. There are few women, who watched this debate, who if asked, “Did Mr Biden come off like a male chauvinist - Did he use the male chauvinist techniques, we dislike so much, in his debate, answer honestly?” …who will disagree with me. 🤷🤷

I think you and I are more or less on the same page.

LisaA: I am NOT an Obama apologist, and I am NOT voting for Obama. In fact in the end I’ll probably end up voting for Romney (as opposed to third party). At the same time I’m truly disappointed with the state of the Republican Party, and have been since Obama took office. Since then they have focused more on what Obama supposedly stands for than figuring out what THEY stand for.
Interesting because I see the Republican party swinging away from the ‘squish’ Country Club white shoe Republicans that used to rule. I like the freshmen in Congress like Rand Paul who have both a social and fiscal Conservative stance. I just hope they aren’t corrupted by the Beltway although I’m sadly pessimistic about the long term.

Contrast RR with George Bush whom I adored for his sincerity and conviction but who was a big spending, big government Republican. McCain too, to a great extent. He’d just spent too much time in Washington to see a non-government approach to our problems. I don’t think a GB43 would have won this year’s nomination.

What do you want to see in the party today? Thank you for not wasting your vote. This is a critical year and we need every vote against Obama and his Leftist agenda.

I was about to post the exact same thing! :rotfl:

On that note: We all like to bemoan partisanship right now, but it has been far worse at various points in our history. Our earliest history in particular. The Federalists and Republicans were FAR more brutal and slanderous in their attacks than we are accustomed to being frustrated with today.

You were clearly bothered by Romney’s “disrespect” of the President, given your previous comments. Yet, you seem to enjoy disrespect and arrogance now. Why the change?

Women are fleeing the Obama ticket right now faster than a nerd dressed up as Pikachu at a local Comic-Con.

Biden isn’t helping this trend.

I admire Rand Paul as well. I think he will be a strong presidential candidate in the relatively near future.

I do not appreciate the general campaign rhetoric of the party right now, or for the past four years. I am especially appalled by conservative pundits. The rhetoric is all against Obama… often to an utterly hypocritical extent. The things said by the same Republicans under a Republican administration are often utterly contradictory to what they say under a Democratic administration. The tone that comes across to me (my parents live in an overwhelmingly conservative area, and I of course have access to conservative media) is “get Obama out at any cost whatsoever.” The cost tends to be slander, hypocrisy, and an easy blow from pundits and politicians at a man with the weight of the free world on his shoulders. I would much rather hear substantive, consistent policy proposals.

It’s so easy for the non-sitting party to score easy points. Look at the Democrats during the Bush administration, for instance. What is tragic is that the Republicans are employing the same sleezy tactic against Obama.

If Romney/Ryan had spent HALF the time of the debate that they spent laying stupid, easy criticism on the incumbent administration actually saying what they WOULD cut to balance the budget (the only thing I’ve heard so far is PBS, a drop in the 1 trillion dollar bucket), they would have a far more convincing message. Unfortunately, they’re simply riding the wave of anti-Obama rhetoric (which is at least PARTIALLY nonsense), which I don’t think is going to win them anything. The more I hear it (as a more-or-less undecided voter), the more it alienates me, and the more it inclines me to cast my vote in protest for a third party candidate.

I’m sure my story is the same as that of many other independent/undecided voters with similar interest in politics. That’s probably not a huge demographic, but it could be enough to make a difference in the election.

Not to mention that Jefferson used a pseudoymn to slander John Adams, who was his FRIEND! They did make up many years later.

And of course Vice President Aaron Burr shot and killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel. VP Cheney also shot a lawyer, but it was an accident and not fatal. That is progress.

I wouldn’t say bothered and never said that it was “disrespect.” I think what we saw last night was the difference between a seasoned politician who is knowledgeable enough to speak off the cuff and with passion and a green politician who had very little to offer other than some obviously rehearsed lines. I think Biden came off as a real person, probably not unlike someone most people know, rather than a stiff suit like Ryan. I think he was dwarfed in personality because he doesn’t have the years Biden does under his belt. If Ryan had as much experience then I think he would have done much better and we wouldn’t have seen the semi-pie eyed weakling being trounced by an aggressive seasoned politician scenario that we saw last night.

How about the campaigns between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson? Specifically the claims that Adams was a pimp within the Russian court and Jackson was a bigamist since he had married his wife Rachel before she had gotten her divorce finalized.

This happened in the early 1800s and would be considered scandalous today!

I was impressed with Biden’s handling of the questions tonight’ he had the answers and a viable plan. Ryan on the other hand appeared to be evasive on many of the issues and i think for some independent voters this hurt him.

Biden won this one hands down.
:whacky:

I saw Biden as a typical blowhard politician who is used to blowing smoke up everyone’s behind without actually ever saying anything of substance and trying to hold two contradictory positions as simultaneously true.

From the WaPo columnist:

Also, the media assume you won the debate if you managed to yell over the moderator.

Those who thought Biden won could only be basing it on his ability to bellow over both Ryan and sometimes Radditz as well. Does anyone know how a debate is actually scored? Not that we have to get technical but does simply lying in a louder voice than your opponent mean you win?

Biden’s claims were SO completely erroneous if not complete fabrications that he did have Ryan beat something like 7 to 1 with respect to the number of lies/fibs/fairy tales he included in the “points” he was making.

He looked like an old pol from the 60s. All he needed was a smoke filled room and some goons outside waiting to convince the undecideds…all I can say is if you LIKED this and want more of it…wow…I guess to each his own.

A debate is scored if it gives your team a boost in ratings. Right now, both teams are competing for the independent and undecided vote. I personally think that if you are undecided after 4 years of this incompetant administration, you must have either been sleeping or in a coma for that time.
