Actually I would love that! stores closed on Christian holidays…as it was in the past. 👍
I’m old enough to remember Blue Laws in NJ. No stores, no movies-the only thing that was open was the gas station and the bakeries were open from 9 am to noon.

Agree 100% with you there. I was just trying to remind people if they support people not working on secular holidays, that I hope they support even more vehemently them not having to work on any Holy Day.

Thank you!

I would love to see more people be able to have time with their families. There will always be those of us who have to work those days, but there really are some things we simply don’t NEED. Nobody NEEDS to stampede a Walmart at 4 or 5 am on Black Friday to buy electronics and toys.
👍

I think people just work too darn much in this country and I think the Mammon-worship anti-holidays like Black Friday fuels greed and is leading this nation to utter destruction.

The workers have to be there on Thanksgiving to prepare the store for the Black Friday Greed-o-Rama. Target is doing the same thing, bringing all their workers in on Thanksgiving to get ready.
Something I have never understood.People camping out in front of stores ,or at the very least getting up in the wee hours of the morning just to go shopping.I am always way too exhausted after Thanksgiving to even consider it!🤷

This is a new thing too-my parents went out ONE night, after work when I was a kid to do Christmas shopping. Grandma came over to watch me, and they did all their shopping then. Nobody got up at 3 am on the Friday after Thanksgiving. We might have gone shopping that day as I got older, but it was at 9 am and we were always back home in the afternoon for leftovers!

Every year it gets crazier and crazier and employees of retail stores lose more and more of their holiday. I would think that Catholics of all people would be supportive of workers being allowed to spend holidays with their families.

It’s kind of ironic that the day after we give thanks for what we have, people go out and trample one another at 4 am to get more. 🤷

I’m glad we found something we can enthusiastically agree on! 👍

That’s the real point here, and with the folks at Target that are petitioning for the hours to be changed to something more realistic. They want their holiday with their family, and I don’t believe that should be something reserved for those who are able to get “better” jobs than Walmart or Target.

Workers at all levels should be treated well, and there are plenty of Church documents that support that-including the Bible!

GOOD -

Walmart will figure out the power of the people

now we Christians need to band together and let the Government know we aren’t going to let them take away our religious freedom
Booyah! That’s the spirit…don’t give an inch. Fight fanatically to preserve our right to worship God freely. 👍

Again… 👍

Then there are companies like Wegmans and Costco which are repotted to treat their employees well. Even Target treats their employees better than Wal-Mart.

I think it may be a problem of greed at t he corporate level.
I agree with your sentiment toward Wal Mart. They don’t take care of their employees. Maybe if the employees walk out the company will listen, but probably not. As for Target, I heard they have now announced they will open for black Friday at 9pm on Thursday! And employees are rightfully upset. Now I am a conservative. I am pro-free market. However, I do not approve of the practices of these two companies, Walmart and Target. Therefore I will not shop at either (never did shop at Walmart). If I was an employee at Target or Walmart, I would be taking steps to gain skills and experience in order to be able to get a better job and work for a more enlightened company.

On this we can agree. It is nuts - a frenzy. And it is one of the ugly aspects of consumerism/materialism that has taken hold in our society. I will not participate in Black Friday - I have to work anyway.

This is another way for families to be destroyed. Thanksgiving isn’t even a religious holiday. People should enjoy the weekend with families and friends. It has become a shopping spree for some.

A day care has even offered to open its doors at 3 AM…yes, 3 AM…so the babies can come in and Mom can go shopping. They’ll keep the kids until midnight. What kind of parents would get their sleeping kids up and take them to day care at 3 AM!!!

Support these workers at Wal-Mart and elsewhere by NOT SHOPPING ON THANKSGIVING AND ON BLACK FRIDAY. Stay home eat leftovers and make soup. 👍

I would love to see a movement among Christians to reclaim Sundays and holidays for Church and family and simply stop joining the frenzy.

Well I know me and my girlfriend will be spending Black Friday at home. 👍

You do it, I’ll do it!! One Sunday at a time. Just stop shopping on Sunday and no shopping on Thanksgiving nor on Black Friday.

I wonder if we could put an article in the Sunday parish bulletin asking people to forego the above so we can start turning the culture back to faith and the family? I’ll ask tomorrow.
