Was Christ's resurrection foretold in the Old Testament?

Hi
I would make a little insertion here that JesusYeshua himself opted to show the Sign of Jonah to the corrupt adulterous Jews of his time, and this is mentioned in the Gospels in his own words. Could one quote for me the exact total words spoken by JesusYeshua’s in the four Gospels? I think not much of them, ordinarily it is words of the scribes not words of Jesus. JesusYeshua’s Words should be preferred over the words of the scribes. Am I write?
Thanks

Are the Jews really described as adulterous in the Christian Bible?

I think Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Isaiah may have indicated that (going off the top of my head, so I can’t bring up any quotes at the moment. I am Catholic afterall…;)).

But I don’t recall any of the NT authors saying that.

Yes, I agree.

Regarding your recent question to our friend, the bridge-gapper, I do have to admit that some Catholic theologians think the Whore of Babylon (in Revelation) is Jerusalem right before the fall of the temple in 70AD.

Evidently, they didn’t take too lightly to the High Priest having our first bishop of Jerusalem stoned to death.

Of course, many theologians think it’s the Catholic Church, so who am I to cast stones, eh? 😉

Kinda~sorta, yeah. The NAB translation reads:
38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.” 39 He said to them in reply, "An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. 40 Just as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.
The word “unfaithful” has the following note attached to it:
Unfaithful: literally, “adulterous.” The covenant between God and Israel was portrayed as a marriage bond, and unfaithfulness to the covenant as adultery; cf Hosea 2:4-14; Jeremiah 3:6-10.
I’m quoting the NAB translation found on the USCCB website, Matthew chapter 12.

Why all of Israel? Man’s free will is taken away after the coming of the Messiah?
I suppose we will all freely choose to obey the commandments. Just as we have free will today to choose to do so or not.
Hi
Man’s free will cannot be taken back from him. If somebody thinks on these lines, he is totally mistaken. I agree with you. That would be against the scheme of life when Creator of the Univerese created the creations since inception. God’s words never change.

Do you need ALL 500???
Hi
If you have a list of all 500 witnesses; why hesitate to provide it?
And if you don’t have it, which surely you don’t have, then why mention such witnesses that could not be produced when needed . Better conceal it, and only mention those eleven who could be presented. Please don’t mind it. The witnessing has reduced on the very outset by 500/11. Can one imagine that? And most of the rest were eliminated lest they witness otherwise, perhaps, just my thought. Peace
Thanks

Paar, you seem to have a habit of jumping to the wrong conclusions. Nobody today claims to have a list of 500 people who saw the Resurrected Christ.

St. Paul, 1950 years ago claimed that 500 people saw the risen Christ.

Now you, my friend, 2000 years after Christ resurrected are demanding to see that list, or else you won’t believe it? Incredible!!!

I would be just as fallicious if I demanded a list of people who saw the angel talking to Mohammed (I’m not sure how Mohammed claimed to have his revelations, but that’s what I’m trying to present in my arguement).

I haven’t the foggiest clue what you are trying to imply here. At least I hope I don’t, because I’m assuming you are claiming that someone from the Christian Sect killed the witnesses in order to silence them?

The 11 people should be enough, those people all gave up their lives. It’s one thing to deceive someone and let followers to falsely believe it, but these 11 truly believed it and proved it by giving up their lives. No one could prove them wrong by producing a body. And if someone else went in his place upon the cross, why did God do this? It doesn’t really make sense. Why believe that Jesus was a great prophet of Allah, if you don’t believe in the death and resurrection of Christ? If he didn’t do this, then he must have been a crazy man, not some great prophet. That’s the point of Jesus, that he brought a new covenant to his people. Without his death Jesus becomes a liar.

Hi
If the 11 people would have been sufficient, then why quote 500 as witnesses. They new that eleven are not sufficient that is why to strengthen their untrue statement apparently they mentioned of the 500, in fact there was none. JesusYeshuaIssa was a great truthful ProphetMessenger of GodAllahYHWH on merit anyway; he never needed any Paul as a witness nor the 500 without names quoted by Paul.
Thanks

Paar? Are you trying to bridge these gaps between faiths or burn these bridges between our faiths.

First you ask for the names of the 500 from someone who said it 1900+ years ago. Then you call him a liar, since he didn’t produce him.

Of course, this is indicative of the rest of your Bible scholarship, so I’m really not surprised.:nope:

Hi
When people are talking of witnesses, is it not fair to ask them to produce them for witnessing, if they can’t produce them why do they mention them.I say they are only sentimental, so let them remain what they are, but others don’t have to follow them, they have as much right to believe in what is reasonable, rational and logical to them. There in no compulsion. Nothing is to be taken as granted.
I never called anybody a “liar” this shows you are being sentimental, I guess. Please don’t take it to heart, we are just discussing religion in a quest for truth and you know the truth shall always prevail, you must be sure. You have to be in peace; nothing to worry about.
I love Jesus. May GodAllahYHWH bless you!

Psalm 16:9: “Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” This is a prophecy regarding Jesus’ resurrection before his body would decay.

Psalm 17:15: “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with they likeness.”

Psalm 49:15: “God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.”

Isaiah 25:8: “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces.”

Isaiah 26:19: “Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.”

Isaiah 53:10: "…When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. " This is a prophecy of the resurrection of Jesus.

Ezekiel 37 is a picture prophecy of Israel, dead spiritually, scattered into the nations of the world, thinking they are hopeless and of God’s promise to bring them back to their own land and put life in them. The vision, no doubt, can also be seen as a picture of the resurrection from the dead of people in general at the day of resurrection.

Daniel 12:2: “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.”

Daniel 12:13: “But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.”

Hosea 13:14: "I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O Death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction.

You’ll have to ask Paul. Maybe he provided them, but it wasn’t considered Scripture. Would be rather boring text, now wouldn’t it?
I never called anybody a “liar” this shows you are being sentimental, I guess.
Really, let’s go back to the tape:

Let’s see, if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, it’s a duck!!! You sir, seemed to have called St. Paul a liar!!!
Please don’t take it to heart, we are just discussing religion in a quest for truth and you know the truth shall always prevail,
and yet you, sir, have mis-quoted nearly every bible text you’ve sited. Interesting.
you must be sure. You have to be in peace; nothing to worry about.

That’s great, what exactly was JesusYeshualssa ,Prophet/Messenger of GodAllahYHWH, message of prophesies than? Excuse my ignorance, I mean no disrespect. Because personally, I know what my new testament tells me Jesus said, but I am very curious what you believe he said. 🤷

I haven’t read all the responses to this question so I may be repeating what someone has already written. If not there is a greater possibility (probability) I am missing the point of the question.

My point is simple. Read the works of our Holy Father and his comments on Holy Scripture. One point you should find through out his writings is you cannot understand the Old Testament without understanding Christ and the New Testament, as well as, you cannot fully understand the New Testament without a knowledge of the Old. Everything in the Old Testament point forward to the New.

So my answer is yes, the Resurrection is foretold in the Old Testament. It isn’t explicitly stated as some would like, but it’s there.

I realize I am not doing our Holy Father justice so again I would suggest that all read our Holy Father’s works to give a clearer understanding of the point I am trying to make.

Do you mean specifically Pope Benedict XVI, or John Paul II?

Nita, but I think the OP’s original question was: (paraphrasing)

Did any OT Scriptures attest that the Messiah would suffer, die, and then be resurrected. I haven’t seen anything like that.

The messianic prophecies that I saw described the Messiah in two different ways:
  1. Suffering for us (i.e. Isaiah’s Suffering Servant).
  2. A triumphant King (i.e. the Lion of Judah).
Little did anybody seem to realize (in the OT times) that both of these types of prophecies were related to Jesus who had to first suffer and die before He rose again in Triumph.
…“a triumphant King…” could that “Triumph” be victory over death?

…“a triumphant King…” could that “Triumph” be victory over death?
Yes, but only because you know, “The REST of the Story”.

How many Jews felt, “Triumphant King? Well, of course that means you have to die to Triumph”. I don’t think so.
