AHHHhh! Cheeze…you are where I was 28 years ago. I nearly completely fell away form Christianity and a belief in God. It was heart breaking to see so many bad potential priests. But let me tell you something. It’s …going to a Knights ceremony…talk later…ooops…forgot.
Feel free to PM me.

I agree with you. All those Islam guys being “martyrs” while killing off innocent people are not doing God’s will. This was foretold in the bible also. There are lots of lies out there but only one truth.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. (2Timothy, 4: 3-4)

And what of the Celts (I use them merely because they fought the Romans and died in large numbers but you could insert any religious group here), and the Muslims, and Protestants, and Albigensians, who died for their faith?
The Celts did not fight religious wars with the Romans. They fought for control over their homelands.

Actually, there are incidents where Soviet troops, with full knowledge that the Germans would not take a communist prisoner (i.e. shot out of hand) went into battle proudly wearing their Communist Party badges. There are pictures of partisan bands (not likely to have a political officer in those!) displaying their Communist party badges.

And what of the Celts (I use them merely because they fought the Romans and died in large numbers but you could insert any religious group here), and the Muslims, and Protestants, and Albigensians, who died for their faith? What about the Jews? Millions of them died for their faith - does that mean that they’re right and Jesus was not the Messiah?

Sorry, I just don’t believe that body count = Truth.
Nor do I believe in raw numbers. However, each and every individual in thousands of incidents over thousands of years of martyrdom morally add up to more than a few brainwashed communists “doing the right thing”

Communism came and went, like so many other fatally flawed ideologies. Christ’s church marches along, steadily producing martyrs. The oldest organization on earth. Thank about two millennia of consistent practice and belief. That’s not beans!

Good point. Feel free to insert any other religious group persecuted by another religious group in history. Check out what the Christians did to the Albigensians.
Cheeze, You’ve become quite the callused one. Very interesting. And you say you’ve only been out of the Church since February? That’s very disturbing. It sounds like you’ve jumped ship for all the wrong reasons. Satan’s got hold of you. When did you attend the seminary. I too went to the seminary. I ran too. But I learned something after leaving that you are bound to learn. The grass is always greener on the other side even if it’s not grass you’re looking for. It doesn’t take long to realize just how messed up the rest of the world is. The difference between us is that I refused to not believe in God. I hung on to that much… I hung on to Christianity and grouped those knuckleheads in with a____es that don’t have a lick of sense. Now, I’ve run into several priests that are very spiritual. Friars, poor. One priest is a good friend from the seminary. He’s a great priests. I learned of a new good one after sitting with him through the 3rd degree Knights ceremony. He’s like us, mainly my wife, but me too. Most of our family is protestant. We are cut off. To not be cut off would mean to go back to where we came and that world is very sad.

I used to believe that some of the men I met in seminary were rather pathetic. And then … I joined the Army. That wasn’t even that bad but the National Guard…sickened me of just how low people can get. Politics is everywhere. And it is true that far too many seminarians and priests seek political advantage for some crazy reason. But the same is true of people everywhere. You are blinded by something that you have already mentioned in your posts. Open your eyes the next time you go to one of your UU functions… They are just as bad there… I work in government and know all types of people. Most of them, other than the workers…the St. Joseph’s…are like that…seeking some sort of sick reward for their efforts on Earth. That is why we love the Divine Mercy. The Church is full of sinners. Even or maybe even especially clergy. I know far more about the seminary during the 70’s and 80’s than I wished. I still believe I missed my calling. Something happened to me that instilled intense fear and pain in me that I ran…like you now. That’s what we have in common… And I don’t care to drag anyone out in the open over this… I know where these people are now. But I leave them where they are and pray for them. But you seem to have thrown the baby out with the bath water. And that is just sad.

I’m praying for you.
Pax tecum.

Well, what evvvvv…

You are making excuses. Make a choice, even the wrong one! Believe in something.
Ah yes. The X-Men

Wolverine: Magneto’s right. There is a war coming. Are you sure you’re on the right side?
Storm: At least I’ve chosen a side.

I like a quote in Band of Brothers:

“______ wasn’t a bad officer because he made bad decisions. He was a bad officer because he made no decisions.”

How do you explain this guys and galswhen you
read this? Does it make you turn white as a ghost.
St. Ignatiuus of Antioch wrote…
earlychristianwritings.com/text/ignatius-smyrnaeans-hoole.html

Written approximately 107 AD

This is what floored me in the beginning. I turned white as a ghost. I nearly passed out from fear. I left the one true church for what? Grape juice and crackers? Oh my Lord forgive me…what have I done!!! Seek out your faith with fear and trembling. All of these things passed through my head at an instant. I felt like Saul for a while.

This is only one of many examples.
Catholic Church authority… I would say so with this being one of many examples.

So in reality, the Church is being very charitable realizing that we are dealing with millions of separated brothers and sisters that honestly beleive what they are doing. Have you noticed the division? It’s astounding…each saying the other is wrong. This is why the primacy of the Bishop of Rome is so important. Sacred Tradition must be preserved. It does not and can not contradict the scriptures. But if someone in all good meaning isolates themself apart from the Church’s Teaching then they are not interpreting the scriptures correctly. Remember what Peter said about the weak minded. There are a lot of genius weak minded folks playing church out their. Who’s wrong? And why?
I just read the OP… Was he right? Of course he was and still is!
Maybe he should be read at times to the faithful during homily…
I can’t say I am exactly “floored” by this, but I do have an inner reaction to it and it’s to joyfully say:YES!!
