Wasn't there an actual ark?

Excuse me, officer Shem. I hate to be a pest, but I’m unlcear on your order. Do I collect paramecia and bacteria with flagella in this same unit? They too are “animals with appendages attached to their bodies.”

Where should I store the paramecia and amoebae?

S.A.,

With a pair of, say, zebrafish, we should be able to breed out all tetrapods, was well as, obviously, other fish. As for paramecia, amoebusses, and smaller, they’re all pretty the same anyway and fall under Type Can Dance On The Head Of A Pin. The Sanitation Dept. has been tasked with collection.

Officer Shem, my son asked me yesterday what will happen to all the extra water when the flood is over. He want so know if space aliens will come and suck it away with straws. Can you please help him answer this?

We plan on disassociating it. this reducing atmosphere business has gone on long enough and its high time that right minded individuals with vision put an end to this outrage. and we’ll make party balloons out of the hydrogen gas. advise your son he can have a balloon wiener dog, if he please puts away the matches.

Wirraway, he wants a balloon Argentinosaurus, please – Billy grew very fond of the one we had on board the ark, until it cracked off the stern over submerged Argentina, drowned and sank to the bottom, where it will no doubt become buried by diluvial deposits and rapidly fossilized, to fool godless materialist paleontologists 4,000 years from now! Poor little Billy – he was so fond of big ol’ “Argy” as we playfully called him:(

everyone wants, wants and wants. does anyone ever ask what we want? no. we want a good air filter. and some kind of a biomass converter. a good tricorder would be nice too, if anyone’s listening out there.

and remind Billy that the Old Guy could invoke the Not Very Ancient Law of the Sea and press him as Seaman Shoveller if he doesn’t pipe down.

To answer the common question of “who carried HIV, HPV, Black Death, Lice, syphilis, Ebola etc on the Ark”, it has been expressed a number of times on these forums that these are the result of sin and the degradation of the original Creation as stated in Genesis. These current pathogens are ancestral to the same organisms that had more complex and richer genomes in the original Creation and were not created to be pathogenic. The article below shows that the more the genome is reduced the more “specialized” the pathogen becomes. This is because it has lost its ability to live freely in an open environment and relies on the “host”.

From The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America

"The louse-borne human pathogen Bartonella quintana is a genomic derivative of the zoonotic agent Bartonella henselae

ABSTRACT

We present the complete genomes of two human pathogens, Bartonella quintana (1,581,384 bp) and Bartonella henselae (1,931,047 bp). The two pathogens maintain several similarities in being transmitted by insect vectors, using mammalian reservoirs, infecting similar cell types (endothelial cells and erythrocytes) and causing vasculoproliferative changes in immunocompromised hosts. A primary difference between the two pathogens is their reservoir ecology. Whereas B. quintana is a specialist, using only the human as a reservoir, B. henselae is more promiscuous and is frequently isolated from both cats and humans.

Genome comparison elucidated a high degree of overall similarity with major differences being B. henselae specific genomic islands coding for filamentous hemagglutinin, and evidence of extensive genome reduction in B. quintana, reminiscent of that found in Rickettsia prowazekii. **Both genomes are reduced versions of chromosome I **from the highly related pathogen Brucella melitensis. Flanked by two rRNA operons is a segment with similarity to genes located on chromosome II of B. melitensis, suggesting that it was acquired by integration of megareplicon DNA in a common ancestor of the two Bartonella species.

Comparisons of the vector-host ecology of these organisms suggest that the utilization of host-restricted vectors is associated with **accelerated rates of genome degradation **and may explain why human pathogens transmitted by specialist vectors are outnumbered by zoonotic agents, which use vectors of broad host ranges."

This fully supports the Genesis account.
no, it doesn’t support genesis, unless genesis can mean whatever you want it to mean, which is typical creationist tactic. there’s nothing in the article that mentions the bible, or genesis, or ye arke. why don’t you do your own research instead of hijacking someone else’s?
Of course it supports the Genesis account, It illustrates that pathogenic microbes are the result of loss of function and degradation of originally created code and would not necessarily have been on the Ark, in this form. This “REDUCTIVE EVOLUTION” occured later in history and is a result of functional microbes degenerating into pathogens.
thank you for illustrating the Texas Sharphooter Fallacy. I was waiting patiently for this kind of post.
Texas Sharpshooter fallacy- shoot bullets in the side of a barn then paint concentric target circles around the holes that are made and say “see I’m a great shot”. But then Wirraway says “I was waiting patiently for this kind of post” Now look at who’s guilty of the sharp shooter fallacy:p 😃
there’s nothing moral or immoral about a plague bacillus, any more than a lion is moral or not. plague, burrowing rodent communities and fleas have evolved a fairly stable relationship; plague’s virulence in humans is of secondary importance to the cycle, and epidemics occur after a host of precursors (including climate), none of which are necessarily holy. its just some quirk in the genetics of plague, rodents and fleas that humans are collected in the wreckage of a pandemic.
there’s nothing immoral about smallpox either, which is about 12,000 years old, so it predates ye arke, and evolved from a very similar disease that affects cattle, not surprising, since significant human contact with cattle began about that time. smallpox is another disease that can’t survive without a human vector, so its been around from the the time it crossed over from being a cattle disease and infected humans whose population densities supported a continuous chain of infection until it was eradicated in the 1970s. smallpox was around in noah’s time so who on ye arke was the carrier?

The history of smallpox, from its probable origin 3000 to 6000 years ago to its worldwide eradication in 1978, is a fascinating story. A feared infection, even today, smallpox has caused the deaths of millions of people and disfigured many. This article describes the possible origin of the infection and traces its progress throughout the world.

exactly. it means whatever you need it to mean. need flying teddy bears? ye arke could generate those too. its impossible to say what ye arke couldn’t do.

Wow – so the article proves that Noah brought smallpox onto the Ark? Incredible!

Trouble is sacred authors couldn’t give a damn about science or history- history. Their interest is in salvation history. How important in relation to rest of Genesis are creation stories? a mere 20%. the main focus of the book of genesis was the creation of the “Chosen People” and how and why it came to be.Up to Chapter 12 the point in Genesis was etiological. How did we get where we are ? why is man corrupt? If you follow the flow especially in the genealogies you will see names that reference place, people and occupations. This is common in many cultures and especially Near East. That’s why many NE stories parallel Genesis. these were probably a small part of a very big oral tradition that passed through millennium Why it is similar to other NE stories is important- but what is different in the stories of Genesis and those of Creation stories like the “Atraharsis” or “enuma Elish” or Utnapishtin in the Epic of Gilgamesh- is way more important. To understand that is to understand what the Hebrews were getting at when these stories were written. Why Did the pagan gods create? to have people to feed and sustain them through sacrifice and worship. Why did YHWH create us? Out of pure love.Unlike many mythologies of creation. Yhwh has no equal, no enemy he has no one to compete with.there was no primordial creation figure like 'Cronos" that he had to crush in order to become chief god. He was ,is and always will be in the Hebrew mind and in ours.If we fail to see the salvation message in Genesis and become crazed over incidentals - then we are losing focus and making a mockery of what is truly important in the scripture. It’s like trying to find out how many angels can fit on the end of a pin? what does that have to do with salvation?Since there is no way to really know how and why things came to be people filled in the blanks with stories that had been passed down there. being no human eyewitness to Creation- all such tales are archetypes for the unknowable. This is prehistory- simply because writing was not present. The history starts at Abram and continues through the rest of the Pentateuch and continues into the Historical section of the Bible. But never how we think of history- YHWH was always the center of Israelite history- nothing else was as important as their relationship to their God. People stories are like sidebars to the Stories of God and His people.Individual tales always relate to God in one way or another- and never are just soap operas. The message is all. I would suggest a little book called “In and out of Paradise” as a book that could put things in the perspective it should be put in. Don’t remember the author but it’s short and easy to read. Good hunting! God Bless!👍

Trouble is sacred authors couldn’t give a damn about science or history- …:
this thread is about whether or not there was ye arke. the consensus is that it existed and was powered by marine diesels or maybe was a five masted schooner.

was it Utnapistin’s ark or atraharsis’s?.Ye noah’s Ark is taken from ye much older tales.Predating ye bible by much and many a year.So what is more important- ye ark or ye moral of ye story. What would thou sayest?Or are we sailing on the sea of Silliness.?🙂

no one is doubting the lessons to be learned from a less than literal reading of ye arkness.

juliamajor, nicely put, although it would be great if you could use some paragraph divisions!😃

My main quibble is that while I and other educated people understand exactly how you are using the terms “myth” and “mythical,” many people on this forum and elsewhere don’t know what you mean by it. I agree with Dr. Alan Padgett in not using the term if I can help it.

When I teach, I use the term “symbolic language” instead of “myth,” because evangelical Protestants and conservative Catholics understand that terem, whereas “myth” seems – rightly or wrongly – to convey pejorative connotations, implying falsehood. I use “Genesis myth” in the seminary, because the seminarians understand it.

I like your theological summary!🙂

Yes, I have also heard this. In fact, a priest said this in his homily. I will not say his name here. I also remember having a very long discussion with a friend of mine about this as well. Of course, two of us could never resolved the issue of
'real" or “no real,” so we asked…just like you are asking. It was then explained as thus by another authority figure of the RC church: There are different camps on this question. A person can go with the camp that the Holy Spirit tells them is correct.

I personally chose to believe in the historical fact of the flood and the ark. I also believe that there is a ton of symbolism here as well. So, I’m a middle of the road, best of both worlds kind of person.
LMP,
I agree. No one could get all those animals on the Ark without the Lord’s help. Accepting what the Bible teaches is a walk in faith.
.In fact, it was the Lord who most likely put them on the Ark.
