Can’t say that my jaw is left hanging open or anything.Well Jim (and Masondoggy) looks like the ACLU has indeed lost every ounce of credibility, if they had any left.![]()

Actually Washington needs to get out of the health care business all together. Even if Queen Kathleen backed down and “adjusted” her mandate this time what’s to stop the next HHS secretary from making an even more sweeping mandate? The government’s power is limited by the Constitution - this law takes power the government should never have.Washington must make changes to healthcare mandates to exclude religious hospitals, colleges and social services from contraception requirements. .
<<>>>> Well, technically they could. Ever heard of a FEMA camp?Someone (actually someone from my parish) said that if we all decided to just not pay taxes, what could they do? They couldn’t throw all the Catholics and other religious groups that are objecting into jail. This being said, I would not of course go that far, but how do you say “NO” without closing your doors? In other words, what is the practical and effective way to say “NO” without breaking the law?
How many does it house? Millions? I mean seriously, I am really pretty ignorant about FEMA camps. I have heard them talked about but haven’t yet investigated that situation, so I’m (to be frank) pretty stupid about them.<<>>>> Well, technically they could. Ever heard of a FEMA camp?![]()
Filing for an extension would have little impact. You still must pay your estimated tax bill upfront and then file at the late extension date. The legal and peaceful means of tax resistance in this protest is simply filing for extension. The overwhelming number of extensions filed will highlight the grave importance of this issue.
I don’t think it is a good idea to turn sick or injured people away from hospital care… ever. There is something cold and callous about that idea. I’m sure you didn’t mean to come across that way.Hmm… I’m wondering if the correct response would be to give them exactly what they seem to want to achieve. Have the hospitals close. Not sold, just close. Don’t put the facilities and the equipment into another entity’s hand - just shutter the doors. Announce layoffs of all the employees. The press release reads simply, “due to new legislation that conflicts with the Catholic beliefs of this facility, we are no longer able to operate as such a facility, and must therefore close our doors.” Publish the notices at the required interval (I believe mass layoffss/business closings are 60 or 90 days, but not a lawyer here, so don’t quote me), with the facility closing at 11:59 PM the day prior to when the law goes into effect.
When what, 1/4 of the hospitals just close their doors all on the same day, with a mass of layoffs, I’m thinking that would get somebody’s attention. I’m willing to bet modifications to the rule happen quite quickly to allow them to stay open and continue to operate in a Catholic fashion.
To this date and time…my Diocesan Bishop hasn’t said a word on this matter. I’ve used the USCCB website and Catholic.com to keep me abreast.Several bishops have pointedly stated that they cannot and will not obey this mandate.
That is what absolutely must happen. No Catholic institution should obey this mandate. If they are fined for not providing insurance coverage within the mandate rules, they must not pay the fine.
Obama is seeing some of his “taken for granted” support among CAtholics evaporate. A strong showing among hispanics cannot be taken as a given either. Some are even speculating that his support among the black population is dwindling (although this loss will not be significant enough to influence the election.I just listened to Chris Matthews and the two guest he had on. The all agreed that this was a dumb idea by HHS and Obama should reverse the ruling ASAP.
Mathews stated tat losing the Catholic Vote would e a loss for Obama.

He will pull something out of his hat just prior to the election. But, after all this, people are going to trust him?Obama is seeing some of his “taken for granted” support among CAtholics evaporate. Sorry, it wasn’t meant to come out that cold - was trying to write quickly. And, it was more for a rhetorical point than a serious suggestion. But acknowledging that the implications of the mandate could lead to that scenario should put a chill up peole’s spines. I certainly don’t want to see it happen, but maybe that scenario needs to be recognized.I don’t think it is a good idea to turn sick or injured people away from hospital care… ever. There is something cold and callous about that idea. I’m sure you didn’t mean to come across that way.
While it is true that money/layoffs do raise concerns, there must be a better way to keep Catholic hospitals Catholic.
Hopefully that way will be peaceful.
With solidarity, maybe there’s hope:Obama is seeing some of his “taken for granted” support among CAtholics evaporate. A strong showing among hispanics cannot be taken as a given either. Today, more than 40 non-Catholic religious organizations including Protestant-affiliated colleges, National Association of Evangelicals, Focus on the Family, Assemblies of God, Northwest Nazarene University, and Eastern Mennonite University, sent a letter to the White House demanding religious protection against the newly issued HHS contraceptive mandate.
“We write not in opposition to Catholic leaders and organizations. We write in solidarity.” Says the coalition letter. “Leaders of other faiths are also deeply troubled by and opposed to the mandate and the narrow exemption."
The truely baffeling thing is how could a Catholic support the most pro abortion president ever. His stance on this matter should be enough for Catholics to reject him as a potential president.Obama is seeing some of his “taken for granted” support among CAtholics evaporate. …well catechised, obedient Catholics. Many are not. Good Lord, we have priests who stand in defiance of the Magisterium, how can you expect the lay Catholics when their elders shake their fist at the Vatican? The truely baffeling thing is how could a Catholic support the most pro abortion president ever. Cafeteria Catholics are the reason why Obama is in the White House along with ignorant college kids who wanted to be apart of “history.”The truely baffeling thing is how could a Catholic support the most pro abortion president ever. Not just college kids. I posted earlier about an older lady in our parish who cried when she heard Obama was elected. She too felt it was about redemption and being a part of history.… along with ignorant college kids who wanted to be apart of “history.”
History indeed is created - the worst, darkest period of American history.Cafeteria Catholics are the reason why Obama is in the White House along with ignorant college kids who wanted to be apart of “history.”
