What are the reasons I should (or shouldn't) become Catholic?

What is polar opposite, OT vs NT?
like the OT is very violent while the NT is very peaceful. In the OT its just a one god with one persona, while the NT suggests 3 gods…which christians interpret as 3 personas of one god.
Actually, I find the OT full of obscurities. There are two versions of Creation.
there are contradictions. but in matters of faith it is much clearer than the NT. which is why there are few fragmentations in judaism.
I don’t believe you are here to lure us away from the CC.

In fact, I am convinced you are very close to coming home to Rome.
🙂

I used to think that about the OT, fearing God, the wrath of God, but now cantering the Psalms at mass, I realize that He was a loving God in the OT. God loved the Jews back to the fold. Fear means love in OT. It was the Jews who feared the wrath of God because they knew they had done wrong. But God, although He punished them, stuck to them. He punished as as loving father would. Punishment=Discipline, and only love cares enough to discipline.

I believe the Jews have been greatly persecuted through the ages, especially under Hitler, and that united them. We have Israel under siege today, so they will stick together. In times of peace and prosperity, the dissension will begin, just like in Christianity. Just like in the spoiled brats who didn’t experience the Great Depression, etc., etc.
Ok, this week-end is very busy, we have our annual parish homecoming Sat and Sun, it’s a lot of work, a lot of fun (and a lot of drinking - I work the Margarita both closing both nights).

Check out a Holy Hour schedule for next week-end. I will do it at the same time as you do. Ours is Saturdays 3:00-4:00 PM CST with Benediction. But I will go to any other parish to meet the time you choose. I don’t know what time zone you are in.

a religion is just as good as the kind of people it breeds. catholics & protestants are equally good people. you shouldnt be feuding.
However, truth is truth. Error is error. All Christians have a moral responsibility to point error out-not in judgment, but that the one in error may turn from wrong to right.

The vast majority of Protestants are open minded, truth seeking people. A few drive us nuts, refusing to reason. True on all sides though. Anyway, it is not our truth or our church that we call them to. It’s God’s.

Christ’s peace.

yeah truth is truth. they have their truth, you have yours, i have mine. by my truth you are both just being crazy and christianity as a whole is just make-believe. 😃

God in the OT is just like any Joe out there. Just like Joe, God has his favorites and his hates. He loved the nation of israel, and had an insane hatred for the nation of Amalek.
He punished as as loving father would.
I think he punished like a brutal pet owner. I’m a father and there is no way i’m gonna treat my daughter like that. Like the holocaust is like handing your child over to a mob to be gang raped and beaten to an inch of her life.

I dont think I can do that quite yet. Its gonna feel awkward and i’m not sure if my wife is gonna approve. she’s gonna think its crazy and a waste of time. besides, i still have to convince myself that it is not a waste of time.

Right on 👍 I am listening to a CD on where we got the Bible from Lighthouse Catholic Media. Unfortunately my commute is short and I wasn’t able to finish listening to it. Our church stocks CD’s and changes them out every 6 months for new ones. They WANT us to research and study the Truth.

There were Bibles (Catholic version) in many languages prior to the King James and and German Martin Luther version. The first Bible printed on the Gutenberg press was Catholic. Bibles were chained to the lectern next to a window in Medieval times, so that literate people could read it and illiterate people could be inspired by the beauty of the illustrations and letters. They were chained because they were very expensive to produce and the CC did not want them stolen for (personal use), the Bible was for all. It was the CC who preserved education, sacred documents, and literature in its monasteries through the Dark Ages when the Barbarians destroyed so much. Martin Luther and others changed wording and omitted books to fit their own doctrines. At one point, ML threw out the Espistle of St. James, and Revelation. St. James, or course, being full of faith expressed in works, which is contrary to Sola Fides. Revelation for presenting Marian doctrines such as Mary, Queen of Heaven.

I have to believe that through the ages, so many educated scholars and theolgians could not be wrong. The more I read and study, the more I see Truth in the CC.

I have to believe that the early Christian martyrs would not give themselves up to grisly deaths in vain. As opposed to suicide bombers who kill themselves.

This one of manys reasons why I am convinced the fullness of Truth can only be found in the CC. If you are going to chose a Christian religion, pick the Catholic Church. She will not resort to lies and misrepresentations of facts. She openly invites you to study and challenge her. She does not hide. She speaks out openly against the culture and is willing to suffer the consequences of her many unpopular teachings (sex belongs in marriage, birth control, abortion, male only priesthood).

This probably belongs on the thread why Protestants feel the need to lie…

One hour to seek the Truth is a waste of time? Let’s see, how many posts have you made here since joining 8/23/07? 313. Me 183 since 7/5/05. Something’s pulling you hear, I mean here.😉

I am doing this at work. If you will notice I very rarely post on weekends, week nights, and holidays. Thats because the rest of my life is practically owned by my wife and daughter. We make decisions together.

^ Its really not as simple as ‘one hour’.

Theres a lot of political, economic and moral factors to consider. To understand what I mean, would you go to a hindu temple for one hour just to see if there is a greater truth in there? You would? If you will do it, then I will take up the challenge. Fair? 🙂

There aren’t any around here.

The Torah by itself is very clear. Though not as clear as the Koran.

Its the New Testament that is full of obscurities. And made worst when combined with the OT. Those 2 are polar opposites.
Sorry you see it this way. The two are clearly related, but are two different covenants. Different, yet related-like family members. Remember what has been said about “context”? Turns out that it really is important. If you focus like a laser beam on the concept of context, then re-read, your objections will begin to melt away. If you are unwilling to grasp context, you will remain perpetually confused. But, stay with us. There are many here who will lovingly lead you through this.

Christ’s peace.

yeah i know, i know. you entirely missed my point. check the ‘context’ on why i said that.

Ooooh, cop out, dude! I found out it is much more difficult to face the one truth. There is some truth in every Christian church, but I want it all. I want the whole bible. I want all seven Sacraments. I want Apostolic succession all the way back to Peter. I want Christ’s precious Body to eat. I want His cleansing Blood to drink. I want the intercession of the Saints in Heaven. I want nothing watered down-not even the Holy Water! That’s why I’m here, and staying here. You are on a blessed journey, as I was for 35 years before I was even baptized. The Lord called me, just as he is calling you.

Peace.

lol yea there are a lot of truths. I have mine u have yours and so on. everybody has a truth , even if those truths contradict each other, then is the truth contradicting itself?
No those things that u call personal truths are call “opinions”, There is just one universal truth that dosent have any contradiction at all.

its not about how you understand the bible, its about how the bible causes too many divisions.
then u are talking about sola scripture.
because the bible itself dont cause divisions, but the several interpretations that people have about it, is the reason that cause divisions

christianity had been breaking up long before that term was invented.

anyway the application of the sola scriptura concept on other scriptures dont do much harm.

Why do u think that there is a lot of fundamentalism mainly in the religions that consider a book as the ultimate authority?. just as muslims and fundamentalist protestants do.

the concept of sola scripture does do harm.
because people can say whatever they want about the book.
The book has no authority by itself.
