Midwinter of the Spirit by Phil Rickman. In the county of Hertfordshire, England, Diocesan Exorcist, Merrylee Watkins, once again gets herself embroiled in murder, sacrilege and intrigue, all while trying to maintain her dwindling parish congregation. Rickman’s books are all very good, but I do skip some parts of them. Friend Lawrence Robinson’s music career and daughter Jane’s romantic buddings to be precise.

Just finished The Great Book of Amber by Roger Zelazny. It’s a behemoth 2000 pager but one of my most favorite books of all time. I look forward to reading more works by Zelazny. 💙

The Jesus of Nazareth Series by Joseph Ratzinger / Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. I read the Infancy Narratives first although this was actually the last of the series. I am now on Jesus of Nazareth: From the Baptism in the Jordan to the Transfiguration. The next one, Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week: From the Entrance Into Jerusalem To The Resurrection, is on my nook, ready to go.

These books are very insightful and informative. 📚

Am currently reading Confessions by St.Augustine, translated into English.

I’m reading; Introduction to the Devout Life, by St Francis de Sales

Very good.

Still working on my slavery history. Finished book 1 of the Lattimore translation of the Iliad and starting The Diary of a Country Priest by Georges Bernanos.

This.

I have many books going at any given time. Cannot recall the last time I was reading only one book!

Today I finished reading Michael D. O’Brien’s Elijah In Jerusalem: A Novel.
a second reading. before, or first book I read was
Father Elijah, An Apocalypse.
Ignatius Press
he is awesome spiritual storyteller 🙂

I might be bringing my new DR Bible to school tomorrow. I have over an hour between classes, so that would keep me occupied.

Exorcist Volume 1, 2 and 3 by Fr. Jose Francisco C. Syquia Director, Archdiocese of Manila Office of Exorcism

Also Exorcism: Encounters with the Paranormal and the Occult by Fr. Jose Francisco C. Syquia

I just finished Fly GIrls, a history of five female aviation pioneers. The only one anyone would recognize is Amelia Earhart, but what the five are chiefly hailed for is creating the Ninety-Nines, a women-pilot’s organization. Women not associated with the 99’s, like Bessie Coleman, are ignored altogether. Good read, but it does not live up to the title.

Just finished “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt. I read “The Goldfinch” a few months ago and loved her writing so thought I’d try another one of her books. Did not disappoint. I’m sad she’s only written three books though. I want more!😭

You might love “West with the Night” by Beryl Markham.
It is a great book, too great to keep to myself, so I gave my copy to a sibling and am now thinking of buying myself a new copy for a re-read.
Here’s a NYT review of a film which might pique your interest.

The quote below is from a goodreads review of West with the Night.
"

Jul 12, 2007 Ian rated it it was amazing

This letter from Ernest Hemingway to Maxwell Perkins in 1942 sums up the book better than I ever could:

“Did you read Beryl Markham’s book, West with the Night? I knew her fairly well in Africa and never would have suspected that she could and would put pen to paper except to write in her flyer’s log book. As it is, she has written so well, and marvelously well, that I was completely ashamed of myself as a writer. I felt that I was simply a carpenter with words, picking up whatever was furnished on the job and nailing them together and sometimes making an okay pig pen. But [she] can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves writers. The only parts of it that I know about personally, on account of having been there at the time and heard the other people’s stories, are absolutely true . . . I wish you would get it and read it because it is really a bloody wonderful book.”–Ernest Hemingway

Hemingway almost NEVER sang the praises of other writers, especially not his contemporaries. As result, his acclaim for Markham’s work can be seen as high praise indeed."

Highly Recommended!

The Dictator Pope by Marcantonio Colonna (actually, I read it over the weekend and finished the book).

Just finished a quick reread of Anne of Green Gables.

I had to purge my mind after the atrocities of watching Anne with an E on Netflix. 😣
