The Roots of Christian Mysticism: Texts from the Patristic Era with Commentary, by Olivier Clement.

Started Flowers for Algernon. I’m about halfway through, and I think I know how it’s going to end, but it’s a very good read overall.

It’s such a honest and occasionally sad take coming from such an optimistic character, which just warms my cold dead heart. It’s beautiful.
I know a few people like Charlie. They’re too good for this world. I’m pretty sure I’ve figured out the ending, but it’s going to surprise me anyway.

They made it into a movie starring Cliff Robertson. I think it was back in the 80’s.

Recently finished The Way Is Made By Walking, about the Way of St. James. Not just a journal or a book on how to pack your backpack, this one emphasizes the religious pilgrimage aspect of the way, which is what I was looking for. I give it five stars.

I am now in the middle of Dear and Glorious Physician, by Taylor Caldwell. It’s about St. Luke. Old style little paperback with very small print. A lot of description and repetitive writing. Still, it got me halfway through and I intend to keep reading, so it must have some merit! I guess I can recommend it.

The Mindful Catholic: Finding God One Moment at a Time

Dr Gregory Bottaro

The Decadent Society by Ross Douthat. It’s not the most prescient read, and its central thesis may actually be out-of-date (it was just published in Feb. 2020) depending on where the pandemic and protests lead, but it’s an engaging interpretation of where our culture was in the late 2010s.

Finished Flowers for Algernon.
Wow. Great book. I honestly can’t believe I haven’t read it until now.

Just finished Marcus by Michael Edward Geisler (Scepter Publishing) which as quite good. Set in second centry Rome, it focusses on the lives of a few citizens to show the challenges of converting to Christianity and living life as a Christian during this time when our Church was experiencing intense persecution.
Currently reading Gunnar’s Daughter by Sigrid Undset.

I just finished reading 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos, and am now beginning Harvard and the Unabomber: The Education of an American Terrorist.

The Splendid and the Vile, a history of the Churchill family during the Blitz.

I just started the book, “Bible in a Year Your Daily Encounter with God” by Tim Gray/Augustine Institute…a fantastic read! Difficult to put down!
