What Books are you reading? '04-'06

I am on the third book in the “Cape Light” series. Painter, Thomas Kinkade, has brought his famous paintings to life in these books. He writes in conjunction with Katherine Spencer.

Kinkade is a strong Christian, and so are many of the characters in his books. It is refreshing to be able to sit down and read a really good story and get involved with the characters lives over the course of several books and not have to worry about profanity and sexual situations permeating the plot. His characters often make reference to God and how he works in their lives.

I am reading “Wife, Mother and Mystic” by Albert Bessieres, S.J.
It’s about the life of Blessed Anna-Maria Taigi and it is an amazing and true story.

hey windmill - i mean, rich. surprised me to see my name in someone else’s post.

this group reads some good stuff! i LOVED les mis (one of my 5 fav books of all time), and thoroughly enjoyed anna karenina, count of monte cristo, hitchhiker’s guide, and most everything by chesterton, cs lewis, frederick buechner, or michael o’brien.

i’m SLOWLY making my way through ‘swann’s way’ by proust. it’s beautiful, but not what i’d call a page turner.

i also just ordered a book by karl rahner from amazon, and look fwd to its arrival. and i picked up a ratzinger book (something about the purpose of theology) and the same ciszek book previously mentioned in this thread. both are very good.

In the past week I’ve motored through a lot of books. I’ve just read three of Laurie King’s Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes novels, Fire and Hemlock, by Diana Wynne Jones, Praying By Hand, a Calvin Trillin book, and I’m working on Way of a Pilgrim. And some others that I can’t remember. Reading binges are destructive to eyesight.

I think I’ll re-read The Seven Storey Mountain next.

I’m reading The Devil’s Armor by John Marco (sequel to The Eyes of God) and also *Rhapsody *by Elizabeth Haydon.
Plus, this term in school I’ve been reading stuff like The Iliad, The Odyssey, Ovid’s Metamorphosis, Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the Rule of St. Benedict, and a bunch of history books like Einhard’s Life of Charlemagne, and also Roman history: Tacitus, Plutarch, Polybius.

This summer I’m hoping to finish up the *Rhapsody *trilogy, The Once and Future King by T.H. White, The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, and The Malorean series by David Eddings. Plus some others that I can’t think of off the top of my head right now.
