What Can Be Done About Masses That Just Ain't Right? Who Can We Turn To? Or Should We Just Grin & Bear It?

After Vatican II there was a period of experimentation. Some things I remember were ‘dialogue homilies’ where the celebrant would have a discussion with the congregation instead of a homily. Or one priest at daily Mass would have the people pass the chalice around at communion time. Or women dancing during Mass. Eventually these things were ordered to be stopped.

About holding hands, the vatican has officially issued a document which explicitly states that this is not to be done during Mass, because the true symbol of our unity in in the reception of the Eucharist which follows the Our Father at Mass. (There’s nothing wrong with holding hands during the Our Father, just not during Mass). Priests should explain this to the people so they realize that it is the Eucharist that unites us, not holding hands, even if we like to do it. And it is important to be obedient.

At some Masses the celebrant invites children to come into the sanctuary and stand around the altar during the consecration. This isn’t permitted. Only the priests, deacons, servers, etc. are to be in the sanctuary at that time.

Since this was a mass at a conference of an organization that is not loyal to the church it was done without the approval of the bishop. It wasn’t ‘allowed’ but they did it anyway. A deluge of letters wouldn’t help if those people won’t listen ‘even to the church’. I believe some time ago that people in Nebraska who belonged to that organization were excommunicated by the bishop there. If it exists against church approval, that’s about all that can be done other than refusing them the right to use church property for their meetings or masses.
 
I remember at our parish one time our pastor invited all the children up onto the sanctuary for the entire Mass. He even invited one to sit in his chair while the readings and the rest of the Mass were taking place. He laid stretched out on the floor during the readings. Every square inch of the sanctuary were filled with children. During the Eucharistic prayer there were so many children up there they were under the altar tugging on his vestments. I dare not say anything anymore. I’ve already been labled the liturgical police.

Quite a distributing situation. Yet, an incident I wouldn’t find too abnormal due to the state of the Church today.

That’s what we need! We need to form the RCMP- The Roman Catholic Mass Police, to help put a stop to liturgical abuses, irreverence, and behaviour unbecoming.😃
 
You know, I just saw that there is a moratorium on complaining about masses, so moderator if this falls under that category, my apologies.

I remember the nuns in my parish school. You talk at mass and you get whacked on the head and have to kneel beside sister.

I would really call the “Puppet Mass” a “Mass”. Especially given the final blessing was in the name of the “Creator, Redeemer, and the Sanctifier.” :confused:
 
I grew up in the Church during the 70’s. At the time, I didn’t know better because everyone seemed to be doing it. All of the abuses people talk about today. That free lance methodology is what lead to the gay agenda within the Church. It didn’t start with the clergy, it started from the pulpit of lay people that soon developed into what Pope Benedict XVI refers to as the “Professional Catholics.” The Church is full of them. However, I tool a 2 decade tour of another faith searching for what I considered the real truth. Those people that some of you refer to as “heretic” are children of God and deserve a little more respect than that; however, I understand your feelings. Now, I see seemingly return to orthodoxy. It’s important to turn in abuses to the bishops office. I’ve played the lower game of talking to the priest first and it only instills bitter feelings towards you. They know what they’re doing is incorrect/wrong. Do yourself a favor and turn it into the bishops office. I believe I may have gotten so irritated with EMCHs “blessing” other lay people during the communion lines that a letter was sent by the bishop to all of the parishes known to do this and it has stopped. However, the priest or bishop now allows us to place our hand on the shoulder of someone coming forward for “the touch” of a Catholic or priest/deacon. There’s an entire theology dedicated to it I believe. It’s the pull it out of my … well the same place some of those statistics come from… “Thin Air” maybe? 😊

I started a thread on the words of the mass. Some priests seem to be trying to further the effemization of the Church by the way they use their words. It’s called “Inclusive Language.” I call it abuse.

Not quite out of thin air. I did it plenty of times as a Protestant. 😛
 
I wish that God would make the Church Triumphant visible during a liturgical abuse, as to show what happens at the moment of the consecration. I do believe that would solve the problem readily.

It’s simply not approved, especially if the priest is encouraging it.

(S)he means that the priest invites the kids up to do something like this (sometimes they just go around the back half). It’s absolutely ridiculous, absolutely forbidden.
