What Can Be Done About Masses That Just Ain't Right? Who Can We Turn To? Or Should We Just Grin & Bear It?

“You believe because you have seen. Blessed are those who have not seen, yet still believe.”

You guys figure it out.

Christ said all that need be said on that topic. Who am I to attempt to express his teachings as my own?

Yes, I already figured out that much. But what point were you trying to make?

It would cease being faith if God flashed the Q-flash (Star Trek: TNG) upon the bread and made it in the physical accidents of flesh during the consecration. We believe it is the living body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ. If we believe, why do we need God to demonstrate on that level? We either believe or we don’t. I’m sorry to hear that your lack of faith requires a guest appearance by John de Lancie.

Yes, I’m aware of that, but you weren’t teaching, you were trying to make a point.

Please explain what you meant?

Whatin the world are you taking about? Did I miss a post?

I think he’s responding to an earlier post that said if the church triumphant suddenly became visible during a Mass that would shake people up and take care of the abuses.
So I guess his point is that we should have faith and not make comments like that?

From what I have seen, we must just grin and bear it. If we try to notify others, they will always yell back ‘YOU SHOULD BE FOCUSING ON THE MASS, NOT ON OTHER PEOPLE’. Sometimes you just can’t be silent while the Lord is being made a mockery at the Holy Sacrifice.

With all the liturgical abuse that exists and other atrocities such as the “gay Mass”, I’m not sure I understand why nothing is done.

I must be missing a chain in the hierarchy.

Whose job is it to police the priests? Is it the Bishops? Who polices the Bishops and who polices the Cardinals?

Is nothing being done because the Catholic Church is becoming more liberal and liberalism has reached the highest echelons?

What recourse do laity have when it comes to reporting abuses? I’ve heard some people say it isn’t our job to police priests. That we should just focus on the mass.

Should we then just grin and bear it like this? 😃

What recourses do we have, as laity? What is our business and what is not?
I note that you describe yourself as “Pre-Catholic.” With all due respect, may I ask whether it is personal experience that is causing you all this angst or is it things that you read about, even here? There is so much wonder and beauty waiting for you, especially in the liturgy, when you do enter Catholic Chuch. I encourage you to keep a balanced approach on your formative journey lest by focussing on the negative you diminish what lies ahead.

I’m actually not feeling angst. I’m a calm person, long thread title notwithstanding.
😃

The majority of craziness I have seen has been in the News and on YouTube. I attend an EF, so I am not exposed to a lot of parishes that take extreme liberties.

Since we live in the information age, we are going to hear about incomprehensible things like the gay mass. I don’t think you’re advocating that I should remain silent because I did not personally experience it.

👍

I’m out of a job right now, since 2010. So I have some time on my hands. If you want I can “ask” a few questions. I’m know for that sort of thing. 😉

The Mass was rarely celebrated well.

It’s simply not approved, especially if the priest is encouraging it.

(S)he means that the priest invites the kids up to do something like this (sometimes they just go around the back half). It’s absolutely ridiculous, absolutely forbidden.

I plan to continue to hold my wifes hand during the Our Father just as we do at home when we pray. I cannot see any reason it is forbidden. And cannot believe it is a sin.Does the bible state that prayers are stronger together?

How many wives do you have, sir?
