I like to see applause banned as well. Mass is not a theatrical performance. No matter what anouncements take place the congregation should quietly listen.

Regularly, it seems, we (exclusive of me) clap for the choir, special announcements and other such things. Our priest seems to have no problem with it.I like to see applause banned as well. Good question. Let me refer you to a Saint for the answerā¦would you include the applause that is in the ordination rite?
And it continuesā¦ā¦let us see what His Holiness Pope Pius X had to say concerning the clapping in church. He had just been elected Pope and was entering St. Peterās when all started to applaud. This was the Popeās response as he turned to Archbishop Merry del Val who was beside him: "They should not do this to the servant in the house of the Master.ā
Now let us continue from the book on the life of St. Pius X : āEarly on the morning set for the coronation the streets of Rome were crowded with people streaming to St. Peterās Basilica. Many who had come from a distance spent the night sleeping in
the open in order to be early for the ceremonies. At six the doors were opened and thousands pressed in, more than half of whom had no cards but hoped to get in anyway. Here and there small slips of paper were being passed among the congregation which read: āIt is the deep wish of His Holiness that in the basilica there be no applause and that a reverent silence be observed.āā

In other words...I also would go back to the Tridintine...May God's Will be done in all things, and to Him be all the glory.
If every Novus Ordo celebrated the Rite One from the book of Divine Worship or like the Latin Novus Ordo Mass celebrated by St.Agnesās in St. Paul, Minnesota, then I believe weād have ourselves a good solid orthodox mass, with lots of āActive Participationā, solemnity, and sacredness! These masses and the Tridentine mass, and weād be all set.
Pretty much sums it up IMO.A.C.J. ICXC A.M.D.G. MPOV A.C.M.

I think that if I could make a change to the Novus Ordoā¦Everyone in the Novus Ordo would hate meā¦
Anyhowā¦I would change everything back to the Traditions of the Church, that is, since it seems from this blog that the Novus Ordo is in such a bad stateā¦I would follow Saint Jeromeās words:
āThe best advice I can give you is this, Church traditions-especially when they do not run counter to the Faith-are to be observed in the form in which previous generations have handed them down.ā

Hereās what I think! Also, for the English a reverent Elizabethan style of Hieratic English would be sufficient for the Vernacular Translation.coreyzelinski.8m.com/1965_Mass/
Please read the link above, thank you!
Iāve heard alot of folks complain equally about both forms of the Holy Mass. Both the Novus Ordo and the Tridentine masses, each have their own unique benefits, Why not combine the best of both worlds with Ad Orientem Reverent Mass with lots of Gregorian Chant, polyphony, and incense and a good amount of Solid Latin or a Latin-English(or Vernacular for non-english speakers) mix?!!! Iād definately agree if the Holy Pontiff phased in this Missal of 1965 as the best of both worlds!

Excellant list, but I would add a priority to it⦠that the people first be instructed on what they are (or are supposed to be) doing.1.only altar boys(must wear black shoes canāt stand sneaker shoes) 2.no extra ordinary ministers of Holy Communion( if there need be, only men. 3.no lectors( if there needs to be, only men) 4. Latin must be retained(Sanctus,Gloria, Our Father,Agnus Dei , and of course in greek the Kyrie) 5.no more Holy Communion in the hand( kneeling for Holy Communion if you can) 6. Only traditional Catholic Hymns, only the organ used or chant 7.Priest and people facing towards the tabernacle so the tabernacle must be put back on the Altar 8.Incense and bells must be used and of course real candles on the Altar.Visible Crucifix must be on the Altar 9.More traditional looking vestments for the priests 10.Remove the sign of peace all together( have coffee and donuts or refreshments after mass in another building or tented area for social interaction. share peace with one another there) 11.No liturgical dance movement!!! (this is also mandatory) 12.Only Gold or precious metal chalices (I believe this is already mandatory) 13.Kneeling after The Agnus Dei required. 14. Kneeling or sitting after recieving Holy Communion required. 15. Prayer To St. Michael The Archangel after Mass has ended . 16. Only the priest, altar boys in the Sanctuary . ( only when needed lay men) 17. Only Eucharistic prayer 1 and The Creed would be nice to have in latin! I believe if these things I posted above were done we would see more reverence and modesty in dress at Holy Mass. Bishops and Priests need to preach solid orthodox homilies of course.![]()
Where did the pope say that neither is better than the other. Or, did he say nothing and you assume that is his position. You know, I attended the TLM a few times and it was great. But I fell back in love with the NO.
WHY do we have to pick apart the NO and try to make it the TLM? The Holy Father said both rites are to exist side-by-side and neither is better than the other.
I fully agree that there are changes that need to be made, but each rite needs itās own distinctness.
How about a thread about what we LOVE about the NO?
Add to your list the hymns.Where did the pope say that neither is better than the other. Or, did he say nothing and you assume that is his position.
IMHO they are distinct. One is more horizontal. The other is more vertical.
I love the NO⦠I just have rarely seen it celebrated as VATII intendedā¦

Well, I could have sworn thatās what the explination letter said that accompanied the SP, but I could just be too much of an uneducated child of V2 to understand all that Latin.Where did the pope say that neither is better than the other. Or, did he say nothing and you assume that is his position.

Why no guitars? Under no circumstances? What circumstances would be OK?The language debate can be worked out. Contemporary music and guitars should forever be banished from the Catholic Church.
