What Changes Would You Make To The NO Mass ?

And what is all the “by N.O” that you have? It makes no sense.
instead of just saying no removal of the Latin, I made all of my “no” comments in the form of N.O.

afterall, the N.O., or NO has been used for so many other un-intened things 😉

Is it the instrument that you have a problem with or the specific songs that you personally associate with certain instruments?

I know this sounds ridiculous but I am frustrated reading many of the selfish thoughts expressed in this thread.
me too…

I am tired of hearing those instruments just because the one playing thinks they should be allowed to help entertain.

The only secular song to consider might be “Gimme that ol time religion”

.

I don’t care what they do to the NO!! When I can’t go to the Tridentine Mass, I attend a local NO Mass and suffer through it until I am refreshed with the Body and Blood of our Lord. That all I need and all I expect. Let them play with it as much as they want. Someday maybe they’ll get it right.🤷

Silver Thread…you said it so perfectly!

no dancers
no drums
no guitars
no clapping
no skits
no movies
no “creativity”

wait… those things shouldn’t be done. but i’m not sure my archdiocese (LA) got the message…

We can see the divide in the Church even by the pastor of a parish and his associate.

It is subtle but revealing. In my parish, for example, the pastor, when he is the celebrant, NEVER wears a chausable with a religious sybol woven into it like a cross or any other symbol representative of Christ.

Instead ALL of his vestments are either plaid or some kind of tweed design of the color of the time of the Church calendar.

On the other hand, his associate, a much younger man, chooses the traditional vestments and even wears the blacktassled priest hat on entrance. One parish with noticable contrasts in the priests. Could this be a sign that we still have a trickle of a young priest here and there in these trying times?

Plaid??? how sad

When the biretta is worn, you know you have a priest strong in the traditions (monuments) of the Church. Great, and lucky you.

Replace the present awful translation into English with a translation:
  1. that is more faithful to the Latin original, and
  2. that is written above the level of third grade.
Then I would outlaw “chatty” priests who feel the need to interlard the liturgy with their own additions and changes.

Eliminate “commentators” and move both the choir and cantor to the choir loft, out of site.

Review and eliminate most church music written since 1965.

Return to the eastward position of the celebrant, and to distribution of communion to the people kneeling at altar rails.

That should be enough to get started with! 👍

I would eliminate music/singing during reception of the Eucharist.
It should be a quiet time of meditation/contemplation and external sounds are a distraction.

I pray every single day for the Sign of the Peace to be moved and kneeling while receiving…

I haven’t read all the posts…

but, my two suggestions…I hate to even mention it, but that is exactly what the ECUSA does during it’s Mass. The Sign of the Peace is after the offertory and we always kneeled while taking communion…

That’s the two parts that I miss about the EC that I attended.

Otherwise, I just pray for these two baby steps! :crossrc:

I am sure, being EC, that you have heard of the Anglican-Use parishes? I am sending a copy of the Anglican-Use liturgy to my Bishop (Trautman) and to the Council of Bishops- for the “new translation”

Yes, and I must say…they are much more Catholic than the Catholic church I attend…that’s why I am so…😦

At the risk of being obvious, the “Anglican Use” parishes are Catholic!

The lot of you wanting to get rid of female alter servers are morons. I planned the masses at my catholic high school. We had a total of 5 different servers in the time I was there. 4 were girls. My senior year was the first time I managed to get a guy to serve. It was hard enough getting girls to serve. Out of my 4 years 90% of the masses hard one or both of a pair of sisters. And if you try to make me wear a veil to church, I’ll find a different church. I won’t like finding a new one, but I will. I either that or I just won’t wear a veil. If you put the mass in Latin I’ll leave. I’m not learning another language just so I can understand mass. Jeez. The mass was done in Latin originally because THAT WAS THE VERNACULAR.

  1. Ditch the sign of peace. Its waaaaaay too disruptive. I’ve never seen it done calmly or quietly.
  2. All ‘standard’ prayers in Latin (or Greek for the Kyrie).
  3. Leave the readings & homily in the vernacular, but add new guidelines that require certain topics to be covered at various times of the year. If we can’t get adults to take catechism classes, the priest will just have to catechize during the homily.
  4. The music needs to be switched completely to traditional Catholic music…Chant, polyphony, and Latin hymns. No protestant music. No more Haugen and Haas. If the music can’t be done right, then don’t do it at all. Have the sung prayers set to music only…
  5. The use of incense. Many parishes only use incense once or twice a year (if that). It is important that a Catholic church SMELL like a catholic church (& I don’t mean like pancakes!)
I think that covers all of my major beefs. I think that those changes would help the sense of the sacred, which would take care of other issues…like dress & appearance, attendance, etc.
