BTW, I’m a she, not a he!Now those are fighting words, mister!
Donny Osmond, dreamy Donny Osmond, ought never be put in the same category as Debbie Boone.
There’s definitely a canon law against that.

No, I wasn’t joking at all. I don’t go around singing Kumbaya all the time. I haven’t even thought of the song in years. But it translates to “Come by me, Lord” and I feel that mangling the title in order to mock it is disrespectful of God.Oh. I thought you were joking about it being against forum rules to make fun of Kumbaya.
Really? It’s such an easy song to poke fun at!
.My pleasure:
Conduct Rule #3: Do not use character substitutions in proper names, such as “Amerikkkans” or “Demonrats” or “Repubicans” etc.

Kumbaya is a proper name. You have used character substitutions in this proper name. That is against a forum rule.
I don’t need to provide corroborating evidence from the Church. (I suppose that is what “CC” is referring to - is it too much trouble for you to type “Church” or “Catholic Church”? Sheesh!!) CAF has its own rules which we all agree to follow when we become members.
It is also against the rules (although not printed anywhere that I can find) that we must be charitable. If this is not a forum rule I would not have received an infraction for being uncharitable. Mocking the term Kumbaya is mocking a song whose ancestry is unclear although many think it was first sung by Africans in Angola or African-Americans in the Sea Islands and/or the coastal regions of South Carolina and Georgia 70 to 80 years ago. The word “Kumbaya” means “Come By Me.” The words “Kumbaya, Lord” translate to “Come by me, Lord”; ergo, you are mocking a prayer. A prayer can certainly be sung.

I don’t care if you don’t like the song. I’m asking you to stop mocking it as per forum rules and charity, not to mention the fact that the term you’re using in place of the proper name is really rather, uh, dumb.
Oh??BTW, I’m a she, not a he!
And those comments I made about how 'adorable' and alla that...
Um...
Wanting to use and hone your talents is a good thing, yet —are you looking down upon menial labor?Exactly! I mean here’s another example. I’m trying to be a writer and I spend a lot of times trying to make my stories work. I study for my English major. I research stuff like myths, folklore, or other stories that would give me ideas. I reflect on my planned theme (religion, philosophy, and life experiences help a lot here).
Now enter people like the one responded to who think I oughta be helping in church more often than I stay cooped up at home, always in front of a computer, or behind a book.
Well excuse me sir/madam but what exactly do you want a guy like me to help around in? Polishing pews? Washing chalices? So much for trying to refine the talent God gives ya…
Oh wait, you mean help out in the community? What service would you have me provide? Teach ABCs to orphan toddlers? Read them Veggie Tales? (When my expertise lies more along the lines of King Arthur and Dante’s Inferno) :ehh:
long story short…I was a coroner’s investigator for a brief period and was the man you did not want to knock on your door. In that role I always wore a tie. I also was a church volunteer at the time and would visit with shut-ins, etc. Someone finally told me my visits were scaring people and it came to the point that: no tie=good news/no news. Tie=bad news. Even today, I usually keep the sport coat, but it’s rare that I wear a tie to church. And then what happened?
Okay with all due respect, I was just simply saying that it’s not about comfort zones. It’s about knowing that some things are outside people’s jurisdiction. Surely I could do more good as a writer than I would in the things you’ve cited. The same way I could do more in entertaining children with my knowledge of mythical beasts than awkwardly reading to them kiddie-fied versions of Bible stories. And what’s wrong with teaching ABCs to toddlers? Maybe that’s not your charism, but again, it’s a good thing to sometimes go outside your comfort zone and offer it up to God.
I’m simply pointing out a general attitude toward manual labor. Many people look down upon it. Why that should be I do not know. Pride? Fear?Okay with all due respect, I was just simply saying that it’s not about comfort zones.
And besides, as much as I’m actually willing to do manual labor for a Christian cause, my poor, skinny constitution just makes it farther from my forte.
Well speaking for myself, I don’t really look down on it as much as I’m saying that I’m simply not physically strong enough to excel in it. Writing on the other hand…I’m simply pointing out a general attitude toward manual labor. Many people look down upon it. Why that should be I do not know. Pride? Fear?
That may be true, but it sure doesn’t make sense for God to grant someone the talent of let’s say music and expect them to be a fisherman. And who’s to know what ‘greater good’ anyone, myself included, could do, other than digging ditches, polishing floors, and reading to kids?
I thought it was supposed to be about what God wants, not what we want.
Do you know what I say? Give’m a slap!WHY IN THE HECK ARE YOU CATHOLIC?
- Catholics who never go to Mass
- Catholics who are trivial with their faith and believe that is what the church truly teaches
- Catholics who are E & C Catholics. Easter and Christmas Catholics only
- Catholics who wear shorts and sandals at Mass as if they are at the beach
- Catholic women who wear extra tight clothes and show a lot of cleavage
- Catholic parents who have no control over their young children during Mass
- Catholics who answer their cells phones during Mass, after being told to silence them.
- Catholics who receive Communion and split dodge in order to be at lunch or beat traffic
- Catholics who enroll their child(ren) for catechism, yet never attend Mass
- Catholics who never tithe because they believe it is not biblical
- Catholics who talk during Mass
- Catholics who do not show any reverence to the tabernacle
13.Catholics who are clueless why the sanctuary lamp (candle) is there
14.Catholics who chew gum during Mass and receive Communion
15.Catholics who have nothing to do with parish-life and yet demand what they want
16.Parents who want a quincernera (Sweet 15) but their daughter is not even baptized
17.Catholic parents who want to rush their children through catechism
18.Catholic parents who ask: Why does it take so long to prepare to receive Communion?
19.Catholic parents who ask: Why are you charging me for catechism?- Catholic parents who believe the church should adjust to their own needs and beliefs
Do you know what I say? Give’m a slap!
They are Catholic becuase it is easy.
Tell me about it! This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done!I’ve never heard of anyone joining Catholicism because it’s “easy?” Usually folks LEAVE Catholicism because it’s too hard whether it’s divorce, birth control, weekly obligation, Lenten requirements, confession, etc. Catholicism isn’t easy? Of course there are people, many in fact, who don’t know squat about their Catholic faith and don’t bother to observe it. These types of people are in ALL religions?
We don’t hold hands in our church, and I am glad about that.
As far as receiving the Holy Eucharist in the hand: Paul VI gave an indult to some countries, one of which was France, it had become an established practice there. In other countries the Bishops elected to return to the Eucharist on the tongue, as the Pope does. If one crumb should fall on the floor and be trampled, that is Jesus being desecrated. Receiving in the hand, you are now acting as the minister of communion. And most people don’t do it correctly, they hold the left hand over the right, which is the exact opposite of what they should do. However, the indult from Paul did not include the US, so it shouldn’t be done here at all. But our priests allow this to continue.
Also, the omans, holding your arms up as the priest does. This is a priestly position, petitioning for us in the name of Christ. This is not something the laity should be doing.
Then how should one place their hands, say if they are right-handed?And most people don’t do it correctly, they hold the left hand over the right, which is the exact opposite of what they should do.
Well gurney being Catholic Christian is a way of life. The problem I acknowledge with Christians of all walks is the belief that Christianity should to adapt to their life-style instead of being the other way around.I’ve never heard of anyone joining Catholicism because it’s “easy?” Usually folks LEAVE Catholicism because it’s too hard whether it’s divorce, birth control, weekly obligation, Lenten requirements, confession, etc. Catholicism isn’t easy? So…CAF must list every single example? You remind me of the owner of a restaurant with a severe cockroach infestation. I told him to fill all the holes in the walls. He insisted that I write down each hole as a separate violation. There were probably over a thousand holes..
I don’t see where a song name applies. I don’t see the forum rule about that specifically.
I am not and do not mock prayer, so please do not put words into the mouths of others, nor try to read intent.
Oh yeah, we’re kewl!!Oh??
Ok… we are kewl, right?Code:And those comments I made about how 'adorable' and alla that... Um...![]()
Is that your response to my post asking if we can turn our swords into plowshares, etc.?I am who and what I am. The huggy-wuggy sloppy-agape type of hand-holding during a vertical prayer is NOT me. I was under the impression I had a right to express that.
Are we getting so dangerously close to a Stalinist society that the mere mention of something that might ‘offend’ is good enough to send people off to the salt mines?
