What is Christ's Church?

Hi,

I dont have a source for my belief because God seems to be silent on this matter. The only Scripture you can go to to remotely believe that babies go to heaven is 2 Samuel 12:23 Other than that there is nothing.

But I have faith and Hope and believe in God’s Mercy. So, I have just shown you scripture so what does tradition say about this?😃

This thread is still going? 🙂

To me, every Christian Church is a Christ’s Church, but there is one Church that holds all truths and the others hold few truths.

Do you think there is any way to re-state this? I think the similarities between us Catholics and our separated brethren far outweigh the differences.

In reading KJV 2 Samuel 12:23 and in the Catholic Douay-Rheims 2 Kings 12:23

But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Shall I be able to bring him back any more? I shall go to him rather; but he shall not return to me.

I do not understand your reference to man aborted infants at all. For the child mentioned here was stricken by the Lord. This child was taken to God by God.

I do not believe that babies that are murdered in their mothers bellies are stricken by God. I do believe that they are taken to God in his grear Mercy as the innocent sacrifices that they are.

yeah, I thought I should’ve said clearer on that part. I also agree with you that we all have many similarities.
It is all in the Apostle creed, and I will state the last part:
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy *catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Other churches don’t believe in the communion of saints, forgive of sins [ie. sacrament of reconcilation].

Hi,
I believe in all that:thumbsup:

Then perhaps we should develop an understanding of what each of us defines as “Church” and see if we, working together can come to a consensus as to what “historically”, throughout the 2,000 + life of the Church and what the Early Church Fathers during the first 100-500 years of Christianity defined as “Church”, as well as looking at various scriptural passages that will support the Catholic view.?
I’m gonna “pinch hit” for ALLFORHIM, if that’s alright. Her church and mine are about the same when it comes to beliefs so I’ll give this a shot. 😉
We define “church” as a body of believers, not a building with a name on it. Christians are, in fact, followers of Christ. 👍
We see it as we don’t need a Magisterium telling us what to do when we have all the instructions in the Bible. Our church community is VERY important in helping one another on the journey home to Heaven. They are there to rejoice with us and cry with us and help us up when we might get down. I’d be lost without my church family! Our pastor is great too because he relates the issues of the world today with scripture and shows us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever! (Hebrews 13:8) 😃

No disrespect, but, I think ALLFORHIM is speaking well for herself.

So do we. The Catholic Church is a body of believers who are united in being one body, and in the fact that we all believe the same essentials.

For us, the “church family” is not about giving us emotional support to blunder off in any-which-way direction that we happen to “feel led”, but rather to guide us into all Truth, including things we may not have been able to think up by ourselves, and perhaps in a direction that we did not “feel led” but which, after all, turns out to be the correct direction.

Why is it that Catholic churches lack fellowship then? Folks there seem to be in a hurry to leave church, even before it’s over. I went to a Catholic Mass with my in-laws and we sat toward the back and almost the whole back half of church was empty after the communion part of the mass.

We don’t normally have fellowship at Mass, since Mass is about worship, but my friends from Church and I do all sorts of things at the Church together, outside of Mass times.

Catholic Churches are available all day long from early morning until quite late at night, and you can book the space to have pretty much any kind of meetings (obviously, nothing that would go against the Faith, but as far as Bible study, or Women’s League, or Rosary prayer group, etc.) , as long as it’s members of the parish who are organizing the meeting, as long as everyone is welcome to attend who wants to attend, and as long as someone has a key to lock up afterwards - it’s kind of like a community centre, in that sense, and, at least at my parish, there is always something going on somewhere in the building - maybe not in the Church itself, but in the Hall, or in the meeting rooms of the Rectory, etc. - the place is jumping all the time, and as I mentioned above, everyone is welcome to participate in everything that’s happening.

Our Pastor even throws karaoke parties in the Parish Hall quite frequently, with pig roasts, and everything (he’s a missionary to Canada from the Philippines) - it’s great fun!! 👍

We are active also. There is something scheduled every day and most evenings at the local level. Then at the D there are more things to do. Hurrying out after Mass might just be that we are anxious to spend our time with family after a long week of work, school etc.

By stating you are non-denom, doesn’t that put you into a denomination?
If you want–I dont really care. All that matters to me is Im a Christian.😃 👍 The church building I walk into is just not part of any specific denom thats all.😉
