What is your favorite bird? And every fowl encounter you've had under the sun

Food chain, dear humans. Don’t forget you are at the top of your own. 🙂

As a rule, I stay away from anything on land 99% of the time. Fish are far healthier. Many of my hawk brethren remain unconvinced, however.

I sometimes think of that verse from Scripture - the lion shall sit with the lamb, and there will be no more killing… Watched an interesting video recently which showed very unlikely creatures rescuing other creatures from danger. EG a fish had been beached and was gasping. A dog came over and started shovelling water from a puddle onto the fish. A bird fell into the water moat surrounding some bears. One bear reached down and after several attempts managed to draw the bird up to safety and deposited it on the ground. He went to sniff the bird and got pecked. by it. He just looked at it, turned around and walked off. I’ve also seen videos of a lioness rescuing a small fox and fighting off a male lion who wanted to eat it .

Yes indeed. The Macaw surely belongs in the tropics, up in tall trees screaming at fellow Macaws. St Francis, my Patron Saint, would open up the shed and tell him to fly away …

Not quite my favorite bird ,but I’ve known this one since I was very little.
I wonder how many countries in the world shared this variety as far back as the '70’s? 🤔

Yes ! That’s him !!! I have a tall pine tree next to the house, and several times I dashed out looking for the wonderful songster, expecting a fancy looking bird. A the very top of the tree, this plain plump wee bird looked down at me. Surely, wasn’t that bird, ha 🙂 I listened to the Bewicks Wren call on YouTube - we have those also, but different from the Song Sparrows. Thank you. I am also an Oregonian - I’ll have to explore the Tualatin NWR.

As my username might suggest, I’ve always been partial to this guy:

For real though, I really like falcons. Specifically the peregrine falcon. Haven’t seen one in person but I’ve always been a fan… those dives are just so cool.

Amazing really! I see Hawks and Kites diving from way up high as I drive by and you’ve got to marvel at their keen eyesight seeing a mouse or snake moving down there in the grass.

Just make sure there’s no good hiding places near your feeders for cats and provide a brush pile or dense shrubbery close enough so that the birds have good place to run and hide.
thanks, that might work -

Not the greatest photos, but here’s our OP fishing. He was successful, he caught a red-finned something-rather. I feel fortunate to have gotten these shots even though they’re not very good. When we were kids, we used to fish for small barracuda in the marina here. We used a floating plastic anchovy for bait. Once when reeling it in, a seagull snatched it out of the water and made for the sky. It then became like reeling in a kite as I brought the flustered gull and my lure back to the dock. We were able to unhook the bird easily enough and set it free. How did it show its appreciation? That angry ungrateful gull dive-bombed us twice before finally flying off 😠

I have witnessed fools purposely try and hook gulls, because they thought it was funny. They weren’t smiling when they received the wrath of Milt who broke their fishing poles and tossed them(the poles) off the pier.

Sweeet. 🙂

(Some people have no respect for living things and the disrespect extends on out to respect for fellow humans. Pretty regrettable.)

I see you felt the need to specify “poles” I see their may have been a slight temptation there to do otherwise.

Sailing through the Whirlpool Islands I was able to photograph the “Beast of the Sea” Lugia 🤓
