No pictures today, but the hummingbird feeder on my balcony is especially popular right now. I often see up to three birds perched there sharing a meal at the same time, although there are still plenty of territorial squabbles with one bird chasing another away. I’m having to refill it once a day, and whenever I go out to get it a hummer or two will hover about a foot or two from my face as though they were saying, “Hurry up! We’re thirsty!”

:smiley:how cute!Thats pretty special.
We still have cockatoos flying about, but the screeching doesn’t seem to be so urgent …or perhaps my hearing is getting acustommed. to the sound 🙂 I heard fairy wrens in the garden, but they are very good at staying hidden.

I took my camera in for repairs yesterday so I’ll have new bird photos soon. I haven’t been out much, just watching the normal cast of characters around my back yard. I have a rare Monday off next Monday so I think I might chase the White-throated Thrush in Madera Canyon. It’s on one of my favourite birding trails anyway and being a Monday, hopefully the canyon won’t be over run by birders.

This handsome fella is a Phainopepla. It’s North America’s only representative of the silky flycatcher family. It’s a backyard bird for me.

Out for a nice drive on Valentine’s Day. Luckily there was no one behind me, so I was able to stop in the middle of the road. This is the only shot I could get before he jumped into the bushes.

Went in quest of the mega-rare White-throated Thrush last Monday. It showed up shortly after I left around 1 pm. I did pick up 6 new species for that hot spot which makes me the 6th top birder at 90 species. I celebrate the little victories.

My long lens is still in the shop, but I did get this Arizona Woodpecker with my Powershot. No, the picture isn’t sideways. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

For those of you scoring along at home, I’m at 72 species for the year.

Sooo many Blackbirds! I’ll have to look them up,what they look like,we just have the English blackbird which I’m sure is very different .
Must have been nice to be out on a drive 🙂

Very cute 🙂
I think that’s a really special way to spend a Sunday .my son and I and granddaughter went fishing…caught nothing but even just getting the fishing lines in order, the drive and sitting on the creek bank was different and enjoyable.

The Red-Winged Black Bird is the most common type of black bird in my neck of the woods.

I love the Great Tit. (below) These little guys are hard to get a picture of! They fly in, grab a peanut, and they’re off!

I’ve seen red-winged black birds here in California only in the mountains and higher elevations, but never along the coast or in the city. Brewer’s Blackbirds are one of the most common kinds in my neighborhood. That white eye against the black plumage always gets my attention.
