This is just another of the Mormons’ missionary tactics:

“See how nice we are? We’re nicer than the Catholics. You should become a Mormon so you can be nice too and hang out with all us nice happy peppy people! Golly gee, that would be swell!”

I was an uber-Mormon for 11 years of my adult life. Let me tell you folks, they’re not as nice as they would have you believe. And when they are among themselves, the anti-Catholic vitriol comes out loud and strong.

Forewarned is forearmed,

I never said that. But what I did say was: respect and kindness is christian. And the way the mormons commented about the catholic church was good.

They deserve a group hug…:grouphug: <<<why me, Zernius, Rebecca, ToM, Paul Dupre, Majick, BartBurk, hosemonkey…and all others who have commented about mormons…coming together in perfect harmony…!

As someone who went from being a Mormon to being a Catholic (started as an unbaptized person who considered myself “Christian”), I can say that I ONLY heard negative things from all the Mormons in my ward regarding the Catholic Church as a whole. I was “disfellowshipped” or something like that and there are only 2 or 3 families that will even still speak with me from that ward. In fact I was told by a member that since I no longer was Mormon I probably lost ALL of my morals…you know because I became Catholic :eek: I do not judge whether a person is “good” or not based on what religion they are…I have known BAD people who are “Mormon” and I have known some really good people. But I can say that everything I was told as a Mormon about the Catholic Church was negative…EVERYTHING.
I am a Mormon of long standing, and have travelled around quite a bit; and my experience of Mormons tells me a different story. The above story cannot be trusted. It is easy to make up a story of that kind without any evidence to back it up.

Well, I didn’t quite like you grouping me with some of those folks. I would run a mile from some of them.

who cares if there is bashing there. this thread is nothing more than an attempt to lure catholics over to a mormon site where they can be preached to. whyme has learned that doesn’t work very well on this one.
Exactly.👍

Whyme is presenting *one *thread found on *one *forum, and you think that is represents the “majority opinion” of *all *Mormons? :confused:

“What Some Mormons Think…” or “What These Particular Mormons Think…” or “What the Mormons on This Forum Think…” would also be accurate.
As a Mormon of long standing, I can say that what is expressed in that thread represents the majority opinion (hence general opinion) of Mormons regarding the Catholic Church.

First of all, how do you know what every Mormon thinks? Are you omniscent?

Also, what is your authority to speak on behalf of EVERY member of the Mormon faith? I thought only your prophets could do that.

It does seem to me that the more I found out about the problems with Mormonism, the more good things I had to say about the Catholic Church. I think more and more Mormons are finding out about some of these problems with Mormonism. It only makes sense they would begin saying more good things about Catholicism as they find out what is wrong with Mormonism. Perhaps many of them are waking up just like many of us here did! Perhaps their desire for acceptance comes from an understanding that many of their beliefs are without any foundation. I have heard that about 100,000 people per year are resigning from the Mormon Church. Many more simply go inactive or remain only as social Mormons playing the game to satisfy their community. I would expect many of them will recognize the one true Christian faith when they are exposed to Catholic teachings.

And then there are the hard core Mormons who come here to try to defend the faith. I counted myself as one of those at one time. Thanks be to God that He sent the Holy Spirit to enlighten my mind.

…I have seen Mormon bashing on this site.
How are you defining “Mormon bashing”? Does evaluating a belief system’s truth-claims equate to “bashing”? I think you’d have a hard time supporting such a notion biblically and theologically.

If one is to go by the Articles of Faith posted on the Latter-Day Saints website (scriptures.lds.org/en/a_of_f/1?printing=checked), it’s clear that Mormon doctrine conflicts at several major points with Catholic Christianity (Article #8 alone would be highly problematic). It’s simply an unavoidable reality. Now, is observing and outlining this truth necessarily an example of “Mormon bashing”? Or could it be an expression of the love for one’s neighbor commanded by Jesus Christ?

Indeed, it seems clear that to evaluate and critique Mormon truth-claims is no more an example of “Mormon bashing” than is your doctor giving you a diagnosis that you find uncomfortable or inconvenient an example of “patient bashing.”

When we place human beings above the truth, we destroy them.

Blessings,

Don

And what is your idea of ‘obedience’? By having mormons convert to your religion?
“So that they all might be one.”

Yes. I pray daily that everyone might know the Truth of Christ’s One True Faith, just as He intended.

Did I say “every” Mormon? I don’t recall that I did. You seem to have a problem with the English language, not with Mormonism.

If we call the LDS Church or the Book of Mormon “false” it’s distasteful. Get used to the truth about the Mormon Church. It’s false, and we’ve gone into detail here over and over and over again about why it is false.
The doctrines of Mormonism and the doctrines of Catholicism are incompatible. They can not both be true. They contradict one another. Who is a nice person is irrelevant. Logic says that one or both of these religions are false. Both can not be true. If a person believes Mormon doctrine the person should be a Mormon, but implicitly that means the person rejects Catholic doctrine as false. I am a Catholic, because I believe Catholic doctrine is true, and implicitly thatt means I believe Mormonism is false. I am not offended, nor do I think it is “distasteful” that a Mormon, Baptist or Hindu would believe or say Catholic doctrine is false. That is what I expaect from a Mormon or any non-Catholic. Why would a Mormon find it distasteful if a non-Mormon rejects Mormon beliefs? If I accepted them I would be a Mormon. I believe they are false. I reject them. Why is that “distasteful”?

The fact that I do not believe Mormon doctrine does not mean I am not nice, or that I hate Mormons. I do not respect their beliefs, because I think they are false. Why would I respect what I think is false and misleading people? It does not offend me that Mormons would think or say they do not respect my beliefs. They shouldn’t respect them if they think they are false. If they do not think they are false they should be Catholic.

We can all be civil to one another and love one another. We can all love atheists or communists or budhists, but that does not mean we respect what they believe about reality.

The OP is persistently disingenuous. If people of different religions want to discuss their beliefs they should discuss their beliefs. The line that my friends are nicer than yours is irrelevant.

What Mormons believe, the content of the doctrine, the precepts of Mormonism are obviously false. Call me not nice for saying it. That is what I believe. That does not make me less kind, or bad, or mean, or hateful, or even heaven forbid, a basher. That is what I honestly think. I do not dislike you or Mormons. I do not dislike you if you say the same things about my religion. It does not matter to me what you say about my religion to my face or among your fellow Mormons.

One of the major differences between Mormonism and Catholicism is that Catholics don’t openly proselyte the Mormons. The Mormons openly try to take Catholics away from the faith. Unless a Mormon expresses interest in Catholicism there will be almost no attempt to actively change them. We present the truth when asked, but don’t go door to door seeking converts. So when we see a Mormon trying to convert Catholics we will try to stop it.

You said you represent the “majority opinion” of Mormons, indicating that you must know what each one thinks – otherwise, how would you know who represents the majority? 🤷

And you never answered my other questions – how does ONE THREAD in ONE FORUM represent a “majority” of Mormons? What authority do you have to speak for this alleged majority? I thought only the Mormon prophets could speak for the Mormon church.

I have a problem with individuals who take it upon themselves to speak for the whole when they have no authority to do so, not with the English language.

You will forgive me if I say that your word cant be trusted.

Not because you are a mormon, but because I have seen you be evasive, misrepresent, decieve and not answer valid questions about your own faith.

I dont hold that opinion about all mormons, just people who act in such a manner.

Why me: Does this mean that you are mormon again, or are you still cathloic?

You know zerinus this is the second time you’ve called me a liar on a post. What kind of “evidence” would you like? The name of the Bishop? His number? How about the elder’s quorum president and his wife? Maybe the president of young women’s (I was 1st counselor)? Just let me know 😉

Romans 3:10-18

10As it is written:
“There is no one righteous, not even one;
11there is no one who understands,
no one who seeks God.
12All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”
13"Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit."
“The poison of vipers is on their lips.”
14"Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."
15"Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16ruin and misery mark their ways,
17and the way of peace they do not know."
18"There is no fear of God before their eyes."
