you’re not a catholic then,
Happily Orthodox 🙂
you’ll have to become one when you marry dolphinlove then:) and i’m not going to defend sheik taj - i think he was a liability to the muslim community in some ways. I didn’t say anything about christians in islamic countries, why do you think that justifies the way we treat people?
And how are we ‘treating people’? Again there’s no comparison. We’re here talking. I’m not advocating violence towards Moslems. I don’t see others here doing so. We’re having a discussion.

We’re dealing with facts. (see below). Moslems here retort that we’re insulting them, or they turn to attack Christianity, and then in step the well-meaning Christians who would like to think that everyone’s as peaceful as they are; who believe such discussions somehow compare to acts of violence.

Facts: Islam is a religion of violence, and terror. This is evidenced from how they have treated friends and enemies alike. And, how Moslems act today.

The Banu Qurayzah tribe had aided Islam in his early struggles, refused to convert to Islam (recall that Muslims will quote - there’s no compulsion in religion’!). They were then slaughtered - after they’d surrendered to Muhammed.

The members of the last surviving Jewish tribe in Medinah, Banu Qurayzah, were even less fortunate. Muhammad offered the men conversion to Islam as an alternative to death; upon their refusal, all 900 were decapitated in front of their enslaved women and children. The women were subsequently raped; Muhammad chose as his concubine one Raihana Bint Amr, whose father and husband were both slaughtered before her eyes only hours earlier.

chroniclesmagazine.org/Chronicles/February1999/0299Trifkovic.htm

This is found in the Koran
“And He has caused to descend from their strongholds the Jews that assisted them. And he struck terror into their hearts. Some you slaughtered and some you took prisoner”

Sura 33.25
Muhammad himself over-saw the execution of these PoWs. He took one of the women for himself. Can you imagine her horror. She’s just seen all her male kinsfolk, including teenage boys killed, and then she’s got to share his bed?

Violence is part of Islam. Violence towards women is manifest
Muslim cleric: women incite men’s lust with ‘satanic dress’
smh.com.au/news/National/Muslim-cleric-women-incite-mens-lust-with-satanic-dress/2005/04/23/1114152362381.html

Here’s another example of Islamic opinion…

No one who knows the religion of Islam would say that it is the religion of equality…‘because Allaah has made one of them to excel the other’ i.e., because men are superior to women and are better than women.
islamqa.com/index.php?ref=1105&ln=eng

Further, from the same site

" The Qur’aan states that the testimony of one man is equivalent to the testimony of two women."

"And men are different in intellectual terms, for men are known for their strength of understanding and their memory as compared to women. Women are weaker than men in memory and forget more than men do. This is well known, for most of the reputable scholars in the world are men. There are some women who are more intelligent and have better memories than some men, but this does not cancel out the general rule. Most cases are as we have described above.

With regard to emotions, men speak of them when they get angry or when they are happy, but women are affected by the slightest emotional effects, so their tears flow at the slightest emotional provocation. "

Thus when this Sheikh was calling for women to be kept at home he probably very sincerely thought that this was indeed the best way of protecting them. He’s just so out of touch with western values. He’s idea of women can be found in Hadith.

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 30:
Narrated Abdullah bin ‘Umar:
Allah’s Apostle said, "Evil omen is in the women, the house and the horse.’

zawaj.com/articles/sahihbukhari.html

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 31:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar:
Evil omen was mentioned before the Prophet: The Prophet said, “If there is evil omen in anything, it is in the house, the woman and the horse.”
(Ibid)

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 32:
Narrated Sahl bin Sad:
Allah’s Apostle said, “If at all there is bad omen, it is in the horse, the woman, and the house.”
(Ibid)

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 33:
Narrated Usama bin Zaid:
The Prophet said, “After me I have not left any affliction more harmful to men than women.”
(Ibid)

Compare other incidents…

Christians in Victoria have a meeting for other Christians on Islam. Some recent converts to Islam sneak in and listen into these talks. They then take Catch the Fire Ministries to court for racial vilification. They have the backing of the Victorian government in this case.

A mufti in Western Sydney said that women who dress ‘provocatively’ *deserve *to be raped. No action.

The grand mufti of Lakemba makes his ‘meat’ comparison with women. No action.

Companies here bend over backwards to have their products declared halal, and have to pay for this… which the companies would take as a cost to pass on to all consumers, including the majority of them - non-Moslems. The Moslem community use this money to their own ends and demand very frequent re-assessments of what’s halal. There’s been suggestions this money goes overseas to finance operations there.

Thus, for instance I want to buy Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate, I know some of the cost is to subsidise Moslem events.

Further to the above post, George Pell, and Christians in general are lampooned by the popular press. TV shows such as “The Glass House” love to make fun of Christians.

Recently a series of art works were shown, that were blasphemous.

If they did the same about Islam then there’d no doubt be riots, threats of violence and people like you saying “They’re just reacting to provocation” or “They’re not representative of most Moslems I KNOW”
I think you mean religious vilification and yes, they were vilifying islam.
I don;t know what you mean by no action in the next two cases there was a lot of action. The first case of the idiot from liverpool: he has thankfully left australia and has retracted his comments. who knows what he thinks, he is not welcome with those views in muslim community. he wasn’t a mufti, he was called a sheik. The mufti is no longer the mufti. He was lampooned by the Chaser more than once so i don’t think comedy confines itself to christians.
The koran was urinated on at melbourne airport, i didn’t notice any riots and the whole muslim community knew about it.

fatma, have you read the quran? Or any hadiths?

I don’t care what the quoran says, or what people thought back then, obviously our ideas change and anyone taking literally ideas from the bible, quoran or torah is an idiot. You produce that so called sheik from liverpool and sheik taj saying ridiculous things about women but my catholic mother happens to agree with them and so do lots of people from her generation such as Peter Hollingsworth. It was a commonplace sentiment in australia not so long ago.

I didn’t just produce one source from the present. You’ve misrepresented my posts. I gave a quote from an Islamic advice site as well. I have also cited on these threads other sites that give opinion on women.

Here they are again!
irf.net/irf/dtp/dawah_tech/ques5.htm
and
themuslimwoman.com/herrole/husbandsrights.htm

To this you’ve offered no more than your opinion, valuable though it is.

Your idea about the Bible is astounding. We take literally that Jesus is the Body we consume.

Montalban, its ok you won’t go to hell, because Orthodox is ok so they told me in school. they get to go to heaven.
:extrahappy:
I see your little friend Dolphinlove is here, maybe you are partners already. :juggle: :highprayer: :kissme:

Now you’re being pedantic, I didn’t mean everything

  1. Well good on you, you just called LOTS of people idiots, and you call me a bigot, good one love!
  2. When did i say anything about the sheik from liverpool?
  3. Well my mother is from the older generation as well, and totally disagrees with what the sheik said, and my mother is a staunch catholic as well. As a matter of fact, many of her friends do not agree with what the sheik says as well…
  4. As for muslims, they do literally take ideas out of the quran, in many countries, they read the quran until they know it word for word. There are many instances today that proves they kill non believers etc.

Not quite because it was the Racial Discrimination Act that was cited.

Well the Chaser does say that they declare war on EVERYTHING.
However one example of yours doesn’t cancel out the art world at large (recall ‘p**** Christ’), and the ABC (I mentioned “The Glass House”) have a long history of anti-Christian humour. I recall Triple-J had, for Easter, a “Dead Guy Weekend” radio-a-thon

And as for the Mufti, it only took more than a decade to remove him. He’s known for his anti-Jewish statements for much longer than recent events (1988 he made those comments). He’s still an Imam of that mosque.
The koran was urinated on at melbourne airport, i didn’t notice any riots and the whole muslim community knew about it.
When did this happen?

Now you’re being condascending! Misrepresentation first, now this!

I think people do that sort of stuff for self-amusement.
Yes, and that is a mortal sin compounded by it being done in public!

Anybody seen a public flogging undertaken on the spot by a ‘religious court?’

Here’s a picture of one in Iran recently: freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1885145/posts.

Which of the masked men learned that in a mosque?

I just love cultural and religious differences. It makes me feel so National Geographic inside.

exactly, losing a discussion and then they resort to that. Makes me wonder…
You’re lucky. I’ve got boog123 doing this same thing at the same time!

boog123’s now saying my facts are right ABOUT Islam, but still wants to know why I ‘hate Islam’

Apposite!
