I think it will be Leo.
The Pope can call himself whatever he wants. How about Benedict John?
Or John Paul Benedict. (Can three names be used?)
But that would be kind of longThe Pope can call himself whatever he wants.
I was going to say that! HahaPetrus Romanus…insert crazed debunked end world prophecy about st. malachy/malachi here
+1Pope Sixtus VI
Sixtus the Sixth? Would he reign for 6 years just to make the end timers freak out!?Benedict XVII would be great, for reasons already cited. However, the very traditional names already mentioned here, but not recently used, would be great, such as Gregory XVII, Clement XV, Alexander VIII, Urban IX, along with others I don’t recall being mentioned here: Adrian VI, Stephen X, Innocent XIV and Nicholas V.
If it were Sixtus, he would be Sixtus VI–think of how that sounds aloud, Sixtus the Sixth.
The Fundies would go “I told you it was the Whore of Babylon”Sixtus the Sixth? Would he reign for 6 years just to make the end timers freak out!?
Ditto for Innocent! as for JPIII - he might as well call himself Peter given the comparisons he’d have to live up to!I think its safe to say the days of Sixtus being picked are numbered…![]()
Yes let’s not get started bc a lot of ppl would jump on that and say, see, see the antichrist is the pope. The Fundies would go “I told you it was the Whore of Babylon”
Also, I’m voting for Pope Ignatius I
I don’t think that is how it works. Pope Benedict XVI was very forthcoming about why he chose the name. It was obviously something he had thought about. In fact he and his brother once talked about what names they liked for Pope. Benedict said when he was just a kid that he like the name benedict for the pope…I really don’t think the Pontiff who will be knows what he would choose. Perhaps it is something that is inspired by the Holy Spirit in the few seconds after the question that the Cardinal asks the newly elected Pope by what name do you want to be known as has been posed.
