Wow, I could go on and on here lol! Music is a huge part of my life so I will list a few of the songs which really move me.
  1. Working Man’s blues #2 - Bob Dylan
  2. Its All Coming Back to me Now - Meat Loaf
  3. What I’m Fighting For - Matisyahu
  4. A New England - Billy Bragg
  5. Coma Girl - Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

I was almost moved to tears coming home from work today. These little kids were singing this song. All I could make out were the words…".And they all went marching down to the ground to get out of the rain." About drove me nuts until I got off the bus. Walked the rest of the way home with that going through my head. I just wanted to cry because I couldn’t get it to stop.

I’m going to tell my husband to get his own account!😉

He asked, “Anyone mention Dolly Parton’s ‘Coat of Many Colors’?”

Have now! That one always chokes him up!

“How about Marty Robbins’ ‘My Woman, My Woman, My Wife’?”

I don’t know how I could have forgotten that one! Talk about emotional!

Then there is a song by a country artist, I know neither the title of the song nor the artist’s name, but it starts out sounding like he’s telling his wife he’s involved with someone new and you almost feel like punching the radio when you hear it as he talks about how guilty he feels, but he needs what this new woman can give him but that his wife no longer can… and then it becomes apparent that the conversation is taking place in a cemetery. His wife is deceased and he’s met someone but he promises his wife that “I’ll always bring you roses” or something like that. It’s been a couple years since I heard it, but I remember how powerfully it affected me (my brother-in-law lost his wife a couple years earlier and was thinking of dating again). Anyone have a clue as to what I’m talking about here?

Sarah Beth is scared to death
To hear what the doctor will say
She hasn’t been well
Since the day that she fell
And the bruise, it just won’t go away
So she sits and see waits with her mother and dad
and Flips through an old magazine
Til the nurse with the smile
Stands at the door
And says will you please come with me

Sarah Beth is scared to death
Cause the doctor just told her the news
Between the red cells and white
Something’s not right
But we’re gonna take care of you

Six chances in ten it won’t come back again
With the therapy were gonna try
It’s just been approved
It’s the strongest there is
I think we caught it in time

Sarah Beth closes her eyes
and She dreams she’s dancing
Around and around without any cares
And her very first love is holding her close
And the soft wind is blowing her hair

Sarah Beth is scared to death
As she sits holding her mom
Cause it would be a mistake
For someone to take
A girl with no hair to the prom

For, just this morning right there on her pillow
Was the cruellest of any surprise
And she cried when she gathered it all in her hands
The proof that she couldn’t deny

Sarah Beth closes her eyes
and She dreams she’s dancing
Around and around without any cares
and her very first love was holding her close
and the soft wind is blowing her hair

It’s quarter to seven
That boy’s at the door
And her daddy ushers him in
And when he takes off his cap
They all start to cry
Cause this morning where his hair had been
Softly, she touches just skin

They go dancing around and around
Without any cares
And her very first true love is holding her close
For a moment she isn’t scared…*

Oh man, my big blubber song of all time - Everybody Hurts, REM … can’t believe I no-one’s mentioned it!

We were born a decade (+1 yr) apart (me first) so I’ve never heard of that song. I stopped listening to “current” music around the late 80’s to early 90’s. I know who REM are but I’ve never heard of that song. I guess I should do some research and take a listen to a snippet. 😃

Well I found it on Amazon but the snippet wasn’t long enough.

For everyone who likes country music, I’d recommend the Reverend Horton Heat’s Where in the Hell Did You Go With My Toothbrush? 😃

It’s the quintessential weepy country song… sort of 😉

I’ve never heard this song…but the words are making me weepy. My best friend’s daughter found out she had cancer the day she bought her books for her freshman year in college. Her girlfriends from high school all shaved their heads when her hair fell out. She’s cancer free for 6 years now, and her lovely hair came back the same as before.

The only one of these I recognize is Both Sides now. I love all the versions of it I’ve ever heard.

I love Carol King’s Tapestry. Is that Carol King? I think so. All the songs on the album are good.

There’s another song that rattles around in my head. I think it was by Janis Ian, something about girls at 17 who weren’t beauty queens…anybody remember that one?

Absoloutely! A total tear jerker:

ARTIST: Janis Ian TITLE: At Seventeen

I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired

The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth

And those of us with ravaged faces
Lacking in the social graces
Desperately remained at home
Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say, “come dance with me”
And murmur vague obscenities
It isn’t all it seems at seventeen

A brown eyed girl in hand-me-downs
Whose name I never could pronounce said
Pity, please, the ones who serve
They only get what they deserve
The rich-relationed home-town queen
Marries into what she needs
With a guarantee of company and haven for the elderly

Remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
In debentures of quality
And dubious integrity

Their small town eyes will gape at you in
Dull surprise when payment due
Exceeds accounts received at seventeen

To those of us who knew the pain
Of valentines that never came
And those whose names were never called
When choosing sides for basketball

It was long ago and far away
The world was younger than today
And dreams were all they gave for free
To ugly duckling girls like me

We all play the game and when we dare
To cheat ourselves at solitaire
Inventing lovers on the phone
Repenting other lives unknown
That call and say, “come dance with me”
And murmur vague obscenities
At ugly girls like me, at seventeen

The formatting of that copy/paste I made is totally messed up - so here as a link to LISTEN to a clip of the song.

No, thanks…it came out fine. I really appreciate it.

You wouldn’t remember a John Anderson song from the early 1990s where he’s “tired of being the villian of the piece”, would you?
