If you go to
www.lds.org and search for “cola drinks” you will see that every article they link to “advises” or “counsels” against the use of caffeinated soft drinks. They say you should “live the spirit of the Word of Wisdom” - and I agree that LDS should do so if they believe it to be scripture. But it is apparently no longer “forbidden” because it can no longer keep you out of the temple as alcohol, tobacco, coffee and tea certainly will.
My LDS sister drinks Diet Coke by the case and was recently married in the temple (for the 2nd time, following her temple divorce).
My LDS nieces and nephews, both in Utah and Kentucky, also make no secret that they drink Coke, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew and other such stuff, and all those over 19 have temple recommends and the ones that are married are temple-married.
So it seems that caffeine is not the bugaboo now that it was back when I was LDS.
