Religion? culture? history? morallity? etc.

What do you think the world would be like?

What would be different?

Humanity would not know God is a loving Father who loves all His children and there would be no rational foundation for the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity - nor that we should love our enemies and pray for those who hate and persecute us.

Those of us who believe in and worship God would be Jewish.

Surely! However; I hope those of us believers would stand firm in our faith…

Among monotheism Islam and perhaps Judaism would be the major faiths of the world and probably still only a small portion of the population. Judaism would still transition into Rabbinic Judaism since Christians had a very small hand in instigating the Jewish-Roman Wars (if any).

Religion wise, I think a Pagan Roman Empire would be slightly more stable as paganism was rather open to just add new gods into their pantheons when they became popular among the masses or at the very least tolerating them.

However I think the Middle East at the very least would still be conquered by Islam. Even without the problem of religious division the Roman Empire was a decaying one and would be divided by the Latin and Greek sections of the Empire.

Upon the inevitable collapse of Rome (It was doomed to fail) I do believe far less of Roman literature would be preserved. Monasteries were a safe zone for intellectual salvation, while warlords fought among one another they tended to leave monasteries alone perhaps out of their own Christian fervor. If anyone can prove otherwise that Christian warlords fighting fellow Christians destroyed Churches and Monasteries please let me know. My point is a secular pagan place to store lost archives would be open game to sacking vandals. After all why would someone who worshiped a Celtic god care if they sacked a temple to Jupiter, or a rich villa?

I think the Dark Ages would truly deserve that name had Christianity never became the void filler upon the fall of Rome.

I think it would be like paradise because if Jesus was never here it would mean that we wouldn’t have been in a fallen state and therefor wouldn’t have been in need of a Redeemer. So I think it would be the perfection that Adam and Eve experienced before the fall.

Ireland might have been more peacefull without religion…

but I actually think we be the same because God is here anyway

The conflict would probably not have ended but for the teaching of Jesus that we should forgive our enemies. There are still sporadic incidents caused by those who ignore His precepts.

First the idea is about a world without Christianity, and to properly answer that question here is one of the gods imported into the island…
Crom Cruach was a deity in pre-Christian Ireland, reputedly propitiated with human sacrifice, whose worship is said to have been ended by St. Patrick.

We’d still be living in sand castles with no electricity.
And sexual immorality would be at an all time high, wait…
it already is.

Although their conflict took that form, it would have happened anyway.

England didn’t take them over because they were Catholic, but b/c they could. That would have remained the same.

The world would still be largely pagan, because Judaism is an ethnic religion that has never had more than a tangential appeal outside the people of Israel.

As someone pointed out, Christianity had basically zero connection to the Josephus wars or their sequelae. So their temple and priests would still be gone, and they would still be scattered throughout the world. Without the support of Christian powers however, it is less likely they would have got Israel back in the 1900s.

No one would be kidding themselves that paganism was gentle and life-loving. Bloody human bodies would still be cascading down the sides of temples, and young women being ritually drowned, in Mexico and Central America. Elsewhere, pagans created crucifixion and lions’ dens, and those ancient wonders would still be in operation.

Or, if Islam still existed without Mary or the Prophet Jesus, the world conflict would be between paganism and Islam.

Well there would be no Islam, since Mohammed was taught by an Arian monk. Arianism is an offshoot of Gnosticism I think -which stems from Christianity.

I think we’d probably worship our government leaders like the Egyptians did. We would all be subject to the idealisms that our leaders would force onto us, whatever they may be.

Good point, but Islam would not be prevalent, as it It was loosely based and formed out of early Christianity> Therefore if Jesus was never here, Christianity wouldn’t exist which also means Islam wouldnt exist either.

Oh, and the Jews would probably have been completely exterminated by now. So no Judaism either.

Modern science wouldn’t exist:

"The key and unique features of that worldview required for science to be born and mature include conviction of the world’s rationality, intelligibility and contingency, summarized by the Thomistic proofs for the existence of God. These convictions serve among science’s permanent and unchangeable metaphysical foundations, and the necessary minimum for its continued success…

Previous historiographies of science, indebted to variations of Enlightenment rationalism and deistic anti-supernaturalism, have failed to understand that ‘from Copernicus to Newton it was not deism but Christian theism that served as a principal factor helping the scientific enterprise reach self-sustaining maturity’. Despite long periods of economic and political stability, science failed to rise in any other culture for religious and metaphysical reasons: a ubiquitous belief in the divinity of the heavens and the eternal recurrence of all. These produced an epistemology filled with inconsistency that destroyed belief in humanity’s power to discover the laws of the cosmos. In contrast, medieval theism offered the only successful venue for the birth and rise of science, providing foundational themes necessary to that success: an intelligible cosmos, created, not divine; therefore contingent; and time as linear. These themes are entirely indebted to distinct theological tenets."

There is an excellent summary online:

Belief on the power of reason is based on the belief that we are created in God’s image - and not merely animals.

You are right, I was thinking at first that Islam would simply continue without the passages that included Jesus as a Prophet. However, I doubt Muhammad would find much appeal in taking all his information from Judaism as it is not a religion that seeks to convert outsiders.

If Muhammad was simply a secular pagan warlord, I doubt he’d have enough fanatical loyalty among his followers to conquer any more than the Arabian peninsula and it certainly would not have been as stable of an Arabian Empire without Islam since it gave limits to how far they could take their blood lust against their conquered foes. Not only that but the Islamic Empire that came with the conquest was already rather unstable since it broke into Shia and Sunni immediately after the Prophet’s death. Without Islam if Muhammad conquered all of the Middle East his generals would probably divide it among themselves similar to what happened to Alexander the Great’s Empire.
