What Would You Most Like Pope Francis To Do?

Mandate that the Eucharist may only be received on the tongue while kneeling. This would restore such a sense of reverence for the Real Presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ and act to prevent many horrifying abuses (both intentional and unintentional).

It all begins and ends with Jesus Christ.

While important, this may not be the most pressing issue that the Vicar of Christ needs to attend to. Let’s support Pope Francis with prayer for the enormity of the tasks before him.

I would like him to discern that the will of the Lord is concerning the Church and not so much of what the will of the people is.

Sometimes, many of us, especially in the west, take our own views with a big helping of ego, and presume that is what is needed.

My biggest hope for the Holy Father is to look to the Lord for direction and inspiration,

The demonstration of humility - personally (which he’s already done tonight, and I expect he will keep on doing) and in the institution of the Church (where some work is definitely needed).

Humility is deeply and movingly attractive. It is Christ-like. It would silence many critics and bring in many converts.

The very choice of papal name is an excellent start.

I am very very hopeful and confident that the right man has got the job.

I will never understand the obsession with receiving on the tongue only. Jesus told his apostles to TAKE and eat.He broke the bread, and gave it to his disciples saying “take this, all of you, and eat of it”. Is the hand any less dirty than the mouth? If we are so undeserving even to hold the Lord in our hands, how can we be deserving enough to actually consume the host?

Begin to take back what has begun to be taken by Pentecostals and Evangelicals in his home continent.
Give impetus to the New Evangelization in a practical way.
Continue to allow Papal liturgies to be examples of beauty.

My earnest prayer is that our new Pope will exhort the faithful to pursue personal sanctity and separation from the godless world. Far too many contemporary Catholics, especially the youth, have contented themselves with a hand in hand with the world type of religious practice and this is seriously tarnishing the Church’s reputation and credibility.

May the blessing of God Almighty be upon Pope Francis in these troublous times.

Has the Pope said anything (Before he was Pope, obviously) about Christianity in the developed, first world? It seems now that there is a major emphasis on Latin America and Africa…you have to hope that doesn’t mean the Church is more or less giving up on places like Western Europe and the United States.

What about for those people who can’t kneel?

Then you receive on the tongue while standing or sitting in your wheelchair or whatever you’re able to do. The Church doesn’t require you to do things that you cannot do and it never has done so.

No “standing” indult is required to admit disabled people to the Eucharist! It’s still a mortal sin to miss Mass on Sunday, unless you cannot attend (you’re too sick, duties of state, etc.). That’s true even though there’s no “missing Mass” indult.

I know!!! While I agree that traditional latin masses should be available (when possible), the Mass, itself in various forms, remains the greatest prayer. To be preoccupied with details is to lose sight of the mandate of the Church. That is, to bring people to God.

The obsession derives from reverence for Our Lord. Not to say that those who receive in the hand do not revere Him (I am sure most do), but on the tongue is more reverent still and it encourages reverence. It also prevents many abuses, such as those who discard the Eucharist or steal it for sorcery.

As to the Last Supper, keep in mind that all of those men were priests. Consecrated hands may touch the Eucharist.

Provide some proof, that god exists in a manner that ordinary people would understand. And finally settle the old arguements, which god?, which religion is the right one. That would be something - he has the platform.

Make the church less homophobic.

The Church is not homophobic. It’s teaching is this: Sex is an expression of love between two married adults with a mind toward procreation if God allows. This can not happen between same-sex couples therefore to call such a union between them would be immoral. This is not going to change under this or any other pope.

Allow priests to marry

This, from what I understand can happen as it is not dogma. However, how one can fully serve God and the Church as a priest and still have time to serve a family as a husband and father is problamatic. Priests know the score when going in.

Allow woman priests

This is not going to happen as it’s a matter of dogma.

Give God a name, so it is less confusing.

Well sometimes we say more by saying nothing, Pope Francis (1) said very little, like Jesus before Cesar…he did more by his silence to convert people, than he did by preaching.

Umm, just a guess, you are not a parent of teenagers. Right? Pointing out and shaming rarely works. Appealing to logic and conscience does.
