He was condemning the character for going against “tradition.”

The tradition being to marry someone of her parent’s choosing.

As for the man mooning someone, well, that type of humor is right down my alley. I never grew out of bathroom jokes. 😃
That is not what Ed says in the thread. He specifically says his problem with it is that the girl slashes a family heirloom tapestry with a sword. The rest is putting words into his mouth. If casting aspersions on other posters is considered a valid way to promote one’s own viewpoint, well, that’s just shameful. The benefit of the doubt is that these other posters are either not fully reading, or not fully comprehending the posts, hence why they misconstrue things entirely. I hope, and believe for the most part, that the latter is true.

As to the question of bathroom jokes, to each their own 🙂

Well, he did say this in his OP
Now that they’re owned by Disney, it appears the radical feminist agenda has crept in to make a story that tells little girls that it’s OK to defy authority and be your own immature self.
and later on
Mommy, if I were a Princess I would want to go against your wishes.
as an example of the bad influence of the movie…

That sounds to me as though at least one act of defiance of authority that he is talking about is the unwillingness to obey the parents desire for her to submit to an arranged marriage… I don’t know of any other wish the parents make besides that she enter an arranged marriage.

I don’t think its going to be fruitful to discuss that closed thread here… but you did ask for particular quotes. 🤷

To Debora123 and AngryAtheist,

I’m a little surprized at your inability/refusal to understand what EdWest meant when he said that he agreed with In Spiration but didn’t think women are stupid. In Spiration has made more than one statement on CAF. It is possible to agree with someone on one topic while disagreeing with them on another. 🤷 He quoted a particular post of In Spiration’s in which Inspiration was talking about something different than the idea that men are superior intellectually. EdWest quoted this post saying that he agrees with In Spiration. (ie, about this post… thats usually the way it works when you quote a post and say “I agree”) Then, realizing that even though it should be taken as a given that he does not necessarily agree with everything In Spiration says some people would probably assume that just because he agreed with one thing that he necessarily agreed with everything EdWest specifically made a point to say that he did not agree with In Spiration on his opinions with respect to the intelligence to women. Come now, lets be fair, its pretty obvious that when he said he agrees with In Spiration he was not talking about his views with respect to the intelligence of women.

There is no “refusal to understand.” Which is why I ASKED him what he meant - twice, for clarification.

The reason it made sense to me that he was referring to women’s intelligence level is because he told AngryAtheist “In Spiration is right” precisely when AngryAtheist was specifically referring to that particular issue (women’s intelligence).

Of course, I’ve told him that I don’t understand and asked him for specific clarification… so I am still awaiting a response.

Quotes or it didn’t happen. I went back to look for it, and as far as I can tell, Ed doesn’t say anything about arranged marriages in that thread. At all. The two issues he mentioned that he does not like was the girl slashing a family heirloom tapestry and an old man “mooning” someone. The only people who mentioned arranged marriages were the ones attacking him for his viewpoint, and trying to put words in his mouth. Sorry, but you undermine your own credibility.
You noticed the mischaracterization techniques as well eh? Good for you.

It must be evident by now. There is no understanding when one does not want to understand.

Posts 1, 15, 24, 30, and 48. All about how the young girl shouldn’t have dared to go against tradition and the will of her parents. Do you know what that will was? Marrying a boy that she didn’t want to.

Good job:thumbsup:

You found an obviously biased source to support your agenda.
Ahh… There it is… It is obviously biased because it comes from a Men’s rights group eh? 😉

And if it came form a Feminist group -why that is just mighty fine with you eh?

Feminists are actually quite threatened when men advocate for Men’s issues -yes?

I should think that if one wishes to be heard, one should at least try and listen.

Men do indeed have issues. Your continual denial will only result in men speaking louder methinks.

You are right, he includes a AA’s post where he mentions that In Spiration also believes that women are intellectually inferior to men. *However *that is only brought up as an argument against what In Spiration is currently saying. So the real topic being discussed is what In Spiration is currently saying in this thread. Yes, I can see how simply saying “InSpiration is right” could be confusing. But EdWest2 also added in “I do not think women are stupid.” Now why would anyone in their right mind add that extra statement if they didn’t intend it to clarify the confusion that might come from the fact that while two different opinions were mentioned, they are only agreeing with one of them? What he meant is clear from his post.To add to this, when you ask him what he meant he replies
You missed my first line. I don’t think women are dumber than men.

Peace,
Ed
Which clearly answers your question by saying that he does not think women are less intelligent. And yet, despite this you reply to him
Well then you’re not making any sense. You claim In Spiration is “right” about men being smarter than women, but you don’t think men are smarter than women? Hmm.
Where, despite his 2 clarifications (one in original post) that he does not agree with In Spiration on the intelligence of women you state outright that he has claimed to agree with In Spiration on this particular matter.

AA assumes this same thing, claiming that Edwest contradicts himself. This is also after his 2 clarifications of what he meant.

It really isn’t helpful for a discussion to refuse to understand what someone meant in their post. Perhaps you were genuinely confused, I certainly hope that was the case, and so I hope I have cleared the matter up for you. If this is the case then I am sorry for coming across as harshly as I did, I just found it hard to believe that anyone could misread such an obvious statement of clarification.

And just so its clear, I happen to completely disagree with In Spiration on both opinions in question, so I’m not defending EdWest because of agreement with his position, I think it is quite false and needs backing up if he really wants to make such a claim. However, it will not help such a discussion to attack strawman arguments of things he never said. That is exactly what got so many people frustrated with Nimzovic earlier on this thread. It is best to avoid such misunderstandings if possible.

Hey, I don’t think it’s all that fruitful, either 🙂 You’ll note that I am not the one who originally alluded to it. But in light of these two statements: “Go check out the thread. It’s in popular media under ‘Brave, a reflection of an agenda’. One of the scariest I’ve seen on CAF” AND “He’s said time and time again that a woman’s family should play a strong role in choosing her husband, and in the thread I mentioned earlier he was upset about a woman rejecting her family’s tradition by refusing an arraigned marriage.”, I think it deserves a re-visit, in fairness to Ed. That is a pretty hefty label to be tagged with, so let’s be fair. That’s why I asked the poster to substantiate the claims; because frankly, I read the entire thread at her invitation, and none of that was true.

Your interpretation of the quotes are purely conjecture. He only names one act of defiance: destroying the family heritage tapestry; and he says that that on its own is one example too many. If we are going to conjecture, I can just as validly say that he meant the defiance she shows to her mother in the trailer; by rolling her eyes, audibly sighing, and saying “uggh, Mum!” in a tone of disgust on the several occasions when her mother corrects her poor manners.

I’ve been up front and said that I don’t think he’s making any sense. If he would like to explain, he can. If not, then there’s not much I can do except to let it go if he has.

Radical feminism love to wage war against anyone and everyone who disagrees with them. No wonder that mainstream feminism is crumbling thanks to the radicals’ hostile takeover.
Have they offered any solutions? None. All they did was whine, whine and whine!
They love to demonize masculinity as part of the “patriarchy”, only for them to whine about what has happened to the men.
Have they helped advance equality among the sexes? They haven’t, since they turned all the problems and the solutions into abstractions. When they turned feminism into a lobby through identity politics, they have alienated men and women from each other.
Do they support the family? They hate the traditional family since they want to eject all the fathers as well as the mothers who do not agree with them. No wonder that a lot of them support so-called same-sex marriage.
Why do we have the men’s rights movement? It’s because the radical feminists have been too busy treating men very badly that the men have rebelled!

I left the men’s rights movement since it demonizes chivalry and some of them had become very misogynistic.

Hmmmmmm… Why did the movie ‘Thelma and Louise’ just spring into my mind? 😉

The tradition he spoke of, he specifically says, is destroying the heirloom family heritage tapestry by slashing it with a sword. And I am pretty sure that any parent would view that as an act of defiance, because frankly, that’s what it is.

That is not how I took that at all. Especially when I asked several times and he never said it wasn’t about the marriage. Heck, I even said that pixar was indoctrinating girls by teaching them to reject arraigned marriages and he corrected me by saying “Disney, not Pixar”. If he really wasn’t upset about her rejecting the husband her family chose he had plenty of opportunity to politely clarify.

If I’m wrong I apologize for the assumption, but I really don’t think I am.

On the contrary, I have availed myself many times of the solutions that feminists brought to our society. I vote in every election, I speak to men without waiting to be spoken to, I own property, I walk alongside men (rather than 10 feet behind them), I work to support my family, and I obtained a no-fault divorce to secure the safety of myself and my children. And not only that, because I was secure in taking care of myself and my children, I was able to be open to love and marry a wonderful man.

How can you possibly say that feminism has brought no solutions when the contrary evidence is standing right in front of your face? (err, typing words that appear on the computer in front of your face, rather)

Also, radical feminism tells guys to be guilty of being masculine.
Here’s how I respond to that garbage: Why should I be guilty of being masculine? Is masculinity a crime?
