I have so many, but I think “Amazing Grace” will always be on my list.

I have seen that played in every denomination, this website calls it The Battle Hymn of the Reformation.

I love so many hymns, but there is one i can not sing because of the tears :cry: it brings, How Great Thou Art (then sings my soul).

It’ sin Catholic hymnals, but every priest I have worked for has forbid me to play because of its origin, along with The CHurch’s One Foundation, which was written to minimize the importance of the Popes.

I remember my mom or somebody calling it a “Protestant” hymn too, but when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s our then-church-organist played “A Mighty Fortress” and “The Church’s One Foundation” from time to time, and all I thought was they were good old hymns.
I think the Church had much bigger problems in those days than singing “Mighty Fortress” once in a while.
 
Does anybody here like protestant hymns? I often listen to Alan Jackson’s gospel album when driving my car. It has hymns like ‘Are you Washed in the Blood’ and ‘Blessed Assurance.’ I know the theology behind some of them is incorrect, but they really inspire my faith in Jesus.
 
I’m not big on “Protestant hymns” as a genre, but I love good gospel music. I have a gospel church next door to one of my houses, about 15 feet away, and I can hear their choir through the wall. It’s awesome.
 
I really have no idea of the difference. I believe Amazing Grace is written by a Protestant?

That is sad to hear, but I do get it. The tune to The Church’s One Foundation was my husband’s deeply Christian grandfather’s favourite, and we named a daughter for it.
 
LOVE Alan Jackson.

I also like “There is a Fountain” and “Blessed Assurance” so I’m not sure if I’m hell-bound, they’re good in devotion.

Certainly! But I prefer their traditional ones, particularly Wesleyan (Lo, he comes with clouds descending), and Anglo-Catholic (Come Down oh Love Divine).
