Of course, I’m a Calvinist. However, the challenge for the faithful in Jesus is to examine songs for their eternal worthiness over personal pleasures. In all Christendom so many great hymns are Roman Catholic, I rejoice in the goldmines discovered on this blog alone.
Are you questioning ‘Protestant’ hymns, Those written to challenge Rome so to speak? If so you are wise to resist. Are you questioning hymns written by protestants but otherwise honoring Jesus and consistent with scripture, then perhaps you should at least examine wisdom within your own circles of authority.
One of the best pieces of advice for me on this subject came from a Catholic priest. Ultimately the music must serve God, otherwise, it is serving man and is idolatrous.
