They look so delicate! And I love the color! I once had some yellow orchids that were gorgeous, too.

A crabapple flowering in the garden.
 
My mother used to grow these.

Actually I know several people who grew several variety of orchids, including the vanilla orchid which is the source of the famous vanilla bean.

This reminds me of people in the perfume industry who would take hikes in the rain forest and look at scented orchids growing there. They would put something like a glass globe around the flower to capture the scent molecules for use in perfumes.

White alyssum is an excellent path edger , and even I have managed to grow it .

What I noticed about white alyssum is that they attracted ants. My mother grew them in her garden and their sweet scent attracted the ants.
