Well, our initial government failed too. Like I said, we’re on constitution #2.Which Enlightenment revolution/Constition predated ours?
The French revolution attempted a few years later, but that didnt work out so well…
As far as governmental documents that affirm innate human rights, the idea is ancient. The Enlightenment was simply the time in history where these ideals in people reached critical mass on a secular basis, resulting in the overthrow of most authoritarian regimes.
Prior to that, innate human rights sources in divine law (rather than the secularism of the Enlightenment) are amply sourced.
Again, the uniqueness of the American constitution is centered on the fact that it’s likely the oldest of its kind still in use.
