Then not only do you disbelieve the Church was wrong about re-baptizing, you also believe the Church does have the right to tell a Christian what He should or should not do. Interesting. Why are you even Catholic. It’s obviously not the Ground and Pillar of Truth in your eyes.

I’ve nothing more to say here as I can see it will only fall on deaf ears so good day and God Bless Tweety.
Thats a good thing and by the way you are the Church. And all those words you say are yours not mine:shrug:

Thank you I was aware of the CC teaching at the time, but as I stated it was something I needed to do:thumbsup: Oh and by the way I wasn;t deceived by the devil:)
Hmmm…let’s review:
  1. You knew that getting baptized twice is against Church teaching but you ignored that in order to satisfy your own feelings and desires.
  2. You have created public scandal by openly stating that your “second” baptism (which technically was no baptism at all) meant more to you than the first.
  3. You have given comfort to those Protestants who claim that infant baptism is meaningless thereby justifying their opposition to and seperation from the true Church.
  4. You are indifferent to the correction of those who have pointed out these things to you.
Wow.

You think I’m being harsh? Well, you don’t know me from Adam, but author Peter M.J. Stravinskas wrote:

“Repeating a sacrament like baptism is indeed sinful, since it implicitly denies the effectiveness of God’s grace.” (The Catholic Answer Book, p. 50)

I have never said that infant baptism was wrong!!! At the time I was rebaptised itwas very important to me and I was just sharing the joy I had felt and where in the Bible does it say it is sinful? And I am glad that I don’t know you

I am aware that you never said infant baptism is wrong. What you have said is (in effect), “I was baptized as an infant in a Catholic Church, but it really meant nothing to me and not much happened apparently, but when I got baptized as an adult it meant so much to me.”

Do you understand how a Protestant will take that anecdotal evidence as proof that infant baptism is wrong?

Now, you are following the Protestant line of reasoning: “Where is that in the Bible?” Again, this is straight from the days of the Reformation.

However, since you asked:

Ephesians 4:4-6

4
There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to one hope when you were called— 5one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

Hope this helps. :tiphat:

People were patiently explaining the Church’s teaching on the matter, and you didn’t want to hear it. You call those who told you the truth “do-gooders”.

Look, you made a bad decision, and you need to go to confession. Don’t compound the problem by hardening your heart.

The corrections offered by the posters here are acts of love; for the Church and for you. When a person professes to be Catholic and writes things contrary to her teaching, it harms the reputation of the Church. Remember you represent and speak for the church. Out of love for the Church we must correct you publicly. This not a judgment of your worth or of the disposition of your soul, but of your information. It is an act of love towards you because you are misinformed on matters that may affect your very salvation. If you were writing about the health benefits of bathing in mercury, we would do you (and those reading your words) a service by correcting you.

I, for one, border on uncharitable when speaking in defense of Church teaching. That is because faithful Catholics are in constant conflict with the secular culture and, sometimes, with poorly Catechized Catholics. This conflict makes us bristly. That does not mean we are without love or charity.

Who sprinkles?? The Catholic Church pours water over the head of the infant or child. That certainly isn’t sprinkling by a long shot. I don’t know of any bible verse that backs up the ridiculous notion of “baby sprinkling.”

The Case for Infant Baptism
  1. Code:
The Church was given all authority to bind and loose on earth; “all authority” includes the authority to baptize infants.
  2. Code:
No verse of scripture explicitly forbids the baptism of infants. (ie, Thou shalt not…)
  3. Code:
Baptism is called the “circumcision of Christ”. Circumcision was the ritual of initiation by which Jewish parents brought their children into the Old Covenant; baptism is the ritual of initiation by which Christian parents bring their children into the Church.
  4. Code:
Numerous passages in the New Testament reveal that whole households were baptized (one after midnight); it is likely that these households included children below the age of reason.
  5. Code:
Historical evidence shows that the early Church practiced infant baptism.
Also, during the Baptismal rite, parents are reminded by the priest that they are the child’s first teachers in the faith. As the priest who baptized me said, “How can Baptism possibly hurt the child?”

Sorry that your feathers seem ruffled:rolleyes: But everyday with God is a great feeling and I don’t have to go swimming. So what does it hurt if someone wants to get baptized.s hurting you or what?🤷
Just be careful; feelings can be misleading. And faith based on feelings is driving a car in the “N” gear.

:shrug:OOps made a boo-boo on my last post. What difference could it possibleably make if you decide that you want to have the experience of baptism that you and God has givenen you the feeling to do? Does this make you less of a Christian, or Catholic?🤷
“Good” question. Let us take a Jewish boy for example, who (circumcized 8 days after birth) at age 12 decides he wants to have experience of circumcision. You know, there are things that happen once in a life time regardless of what one feels. That includes birth, circumcision, baptism, death, etc. If you were baptized already, don’t try to repeat it - no matter the deceiver-induced urge.
We all have to make that decision to follow Christ or not, and if Baptism that we all need to make.all of us to makegives you the feeling of a fresh start whom are you bothering?
Be careful: some of those “good” feelings are triggered by the evil one as a way of confusing the least vigilant believers.
I think this is a decision for you and God to make:)
What if after the 2nd baptism you “feel” you want to be baptized again? Is that what we call “one baptism”?

Joy? Oh my! When Eve took that apple (or whatever fruit) to Adam, she did it for joy - and we all now know the concequences of that “joy”.

Some people would only know they were deceived if the devil presented himself thus: “I AM THE DEVIL AND I HAVE COME TO DECEIVE YOU”.

That shall never happen.

Signs to dicern deception include
  1. Insubordination to established church authority,
  2. Pride and confidence in one’s own understanding (always contrary or opposed to Church teaching),
  3. Unwillingness to be corrected,
  4. Careless and deliberate dissemination of lies and slander about the Church, etc.
So, saying “I wasn’t deceived by the devil” is not enough. The signs are there for everybody to see (and I am not referring to a specific individual here)

!. ! am very happy with my relationship with God and have never ever one time regreted my decision to be rebaptised:thumbsup:
2. One thing I do regret that I ever came on this narrow minded thread:rolleyes:
3. I am glad that my CC is a bit more progressive 👍
4. Church doctrine is fine as long as you search the scriptures for yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you study:thumbsup:
4. Baptizing of infants is a great thing as long as they are taught as they get older what it all means, unfortunally there are some of us who were never taught this, and had to find there own way back to God:)
5. Some of us have to go along way around to find our way back to God:thumbsup: and thankfully I have done this.
6.So folks I say to all of you that have always led perfect Catholic lives God Bless and we will meet in Heaven one day:thumbsup:

I will start by responding to your closing comment. When have I shown disrespect to the Catholic church? Is asking HONEST and VALID questions a lack of respect? If I am asking, it’s because after 50 years as a Catholic, I still don’t know and have come away still wondering. I thought asking questions of the Catholic church was the, " raison d’etre" for the Forum.Speaking for our denomination, yes of course we believe in a Trinitarian Baptism.I am not for one minute judging what happens or does not happen during infant baptism. That is between God and the child…not any of us.I am not saying that I have a quote from scripture on the matter discussed in this thread. What I am speaking of is similar to health care. The objective is always to have the recipient of the care make an INFORMED and EDUCATED decision and consent.Should it not be the same for our spiritual health care.In MY case, what did I understand at age 8 ? I can tell you however, at age 52, I understood clearly the journey I was commencing that day I was baptised. No,I am NOT suggesting everyone be baptised at age 52.I honestly hope this clarifies where I am coming from in all this.NLM
I have a serious question. If it is important that we make our own choices about our spiritual health care, then if your 10 year old child wanted to go to a Hindu Temple instead of church, would you let him/her?

Happiness does not transform heresy into truth - sorry to reveal that to you.

Insult is the dear weapon of the defeated.
  1. I am glad that my CC is a bit more progressive 👍
Church-picking doesn’t work here.
  1. Church doctrine is fine as long as you search the scriptures for yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you as you study:thumbsup:
So many have searched the Scriptures for themselves and asked the Holy Spirit to guide them, yet they came up with contradictory beliefs. You know why? Because they went down the path not proposed in God’s Word.
  1. Baptizing of infants is a great thing as long as they are taught as they get older what it all means, unfortunally there are some of us who were never taught this, and had to find there own way back to God:)
Then blame your failed teachers, not the Church.
  1. Some of us have to go along way around to find our way back to God:thumbsup: and thankfully I have done this.
If you are courageous enough to blame the Church for that, then have courage to openly thank the Church for those who did not leave and had no need to find their way back.
6.So folks I say to all of you that have always led perfect Catholic lives God Bless and we will meet in Heaven one day:thumbsup:
That is the one statement I appreciate you for.
