HiWould Luther be in one of the three branches of the Lutheran church or would he be elsewhere?
LUTHER NEVER WAS OUT TO START A NEW CHURCH,HE WOULD GO BACK TO THE CATHLOIC CHURCHWould Luther be in one of the three branches of the Lutheran church or would he be elsewhere?
I highly doubt that, Luther was not known for being open and tolerant of other faiths.Hi
Seeing the position of Catholics and Protestants, I think, he shall prefer to come to an Ahmadi Muslim mosque instead.
Thanks
I think this is extremely unlikely. Luther had the chance to turn to the east when he was alive. And if he did come back he’d necessarily have to pick up from where the Lutheran Tubingen scholars left off. The historical record shows that a quarter of a century after Luther shuffled off the mortal coil Patriarch Jeremiah II advised the Tubingen scholars to, "go your own way.”He’s probably be Orthodox.
That was then - this is now.I think this is extremely unlikely. Luther had the chance to turn to the east when he was alive. And if he did come back he’d necessarily have to pick up from where the Lutheran Tubingen scholars left off.
Es tut mir leid. I’m assuming that if he came back today he’d retain his former prejudices and character traits but that’s perhaps a faulty assumption on my part. Indeed, he might bring back with him some ethereal insight as well as historical hindsight and thus empowered to think at a level where he was able to comprehend how inadequate and wayward the idea of Sola Scriptura really is, he’d probably embrace Orthodoxy as you’ve ventured to suggest. I stand corrected. That was then - this is now.
I think the operative words are “if he came back today.”
Luther tried that and was told “thanks but no thanks”.He’s probably be Orthodox.
Which Luther? The man of 1513 was very different from the man of 1543. My guess is that if at any age he had an audience with our pope he might be willing to give his old church a try. That is if either man could be convinced he was not dealing with the devil. He would most certainly start another one, back to his basic invented doctrine of sola scriptura,. He would still believe in the perpetual virginity of Mary as he did, and the immaculate conception of Mary.
I think the power and fame got to his head, he would have to start another.
