Not exactly…as Scott points out in jus sanguinis law as it existed in 1961.
 
Folks the internet is abuzz that the Birth Certificate, when opened in Adobe Illustrator, shows up as a combination of some 5 layers. Some people suggest this is an artifact with no significance, others suggest it’s an electronically manipulated and edited forgery, put together from bits and pieces.

Any image editing specialists here?

That question has long since been answered. A person born in the US is a natural born citizen regardless of the citizenship of the parent. Obama is also not the first president to have a foreign parent - -Woodrow Wilson, Herbert Hoover, Chester Arthur and probably some others would have been ineligible by that standard.

  1. I am not sure that the citizenship statute can trump the requirements set out in the constitution, but I agree that the point is moot.

This is what I thought as well. However, Mr. LaFrance has a more nuanced grasp of the law. I just didn’t quite understand from his post whether he was saying that the Presidents citizenship was still in doubt or not.

Nope, I was just articulating what the statutory requirements of jus sanguinis citizenship were in 1961.

So, in deference to the superiority of your legal understanding versus mine, are there still legitimate outstanding issues that bring in to questions Mr. Obama’s citizenship? If so what would they be in your opinion.

Its a product of the OCR in the scanner used on the document.

I have used Adobe Photoshop and have a little bit of knowledge about Adobe Illustrator. That information is false. You can not detect how many layers there are in an image unless it’s saved as Adobe’s file (generally .psd). Even if the image was “forged”, if the alleged forger saved it in a common file format (such as .jpeg or .bmp), it would be what we call “merged”, and there will be no way of detecting how many layers there are in the document.

The Birth Certificate would have to be either .jpeg or .bmp or a similar file format. It would not be .psd as it would be impossible to view for most people (as most people do not have Photoshop).

It’s time I came out and said this: Everyone, give the President a break. He’s “proved” he’s a U.S. citizen. I am surprised that this kind of bickering is going on in a Catholic forum. I am not the greatest supporter of Obama’s policies (I am a Classical Liberal/Libertarian), but despite that, he is an accomplished human being who has more important issues to deal with than this sort of nonsense and rigaramole. Again, I have to reiterate how surprised I am that this would occur on a Catholic forum.

  1. That also depends on if she was living outside the country or travelling outside the country.

As someone already said its the OCR. When I open my official college transcripts it has “layers” too and I know it wasn’t doctored.

Don’t know much about image editing, but one of my childhood teachers used to say: ‘a drowning man will clutch at a straw’ - if that helps any.
