**(CNN) **– The White House released President Obama’s original birth certificate Wednesday.

The surprise release follows recent and sustained remarks by businessman Donald Trump, among others, that raised doubts as to whether the president was born in the United States.

There is a certified copy of it here:

I applaud Mr Obama.👍

Why did he let this go on so long?

The main thing that bothers me about this whole birth certificate controversy is kind of selfish on my part. My daughter, who was born in the US (and both I and her father are citizens by birth) doesn’t have a piece of paper that says “birth certificate;” it says, “birth record” or something like that. So Obama aside, the whole notion that it isn’t a birth certificate unless it says “birth certificate” in black and white really bothers me.

I agree Obama’s birth certificate has been has hard to find as the Dead Sea scrolls…

So the announcement it was found was released when?
Today’s announcement not enough for you? The short form not enough? What exactly would satisfy you?

So, what I am gathering from the Obama apologists is that we, the voters, are not allowed to have any expectation of disclosure when voting for the most influential person on the planet? Is that what we are saying here? If that’s the case, maybe The Riddler can run for office. I’ll vote for him.

I don’t like Trump, but he comes out the winner here. Hrs the man that got Obama to release his BC.

Isn’t Lady Gaga the most influential person in the world?

WE are not allowed to question or doubt the Chosen One. We should be humbly thankful that he shared this with us. Now that he has provided this bit of information, you are required to go about your daily business and never ask another question about another government official for the rest of your life. You silent consent is all that is required…unless there are conservatives in office, then you can say all the desparanging things you want.

My original question was not what you think but who else has been asked to do this (which president/s)? Personally, since he seems to feel the need to prove himself (a disposition I take strong exception to) I do wish he’d release his grades and have all other presidential candidates do the same!
Yes it’s a good start to unsealing records and an example of a transparent administration…

A president that is open and honest? I always question the actions and motives of a man that is as secretive and vindictive as Obama has been.

I don’t know about Obama apologists, but as I must have posted umpteen times on this forum, that I’m saying nothing should be required of him that has not been required by the constitution, the courts or presidential tradition. If McCain chose to release the long form (not sure if it was the long form) of his birth certificate, that was his choice, but he does not have the privilege of setting requirements for any other presidential candidate. Much is required of a president, this has never been before.

There was no requirement for George Washington to serve only 2 terms as President, he could have been President for Life if he so choose. He set his own limit as an appropriate example for others. The reason that we have so many laws in the country is because people cannot seem to do the right thing on their own.

Which other president has had to do this? The rules of this forum, happily, prevent me from being blunt and frank about the possible reasons for demanding of him what no other president has had to do!
If you are asking which other president had to provide a BC, right off the top of my head, George W. did. McCain did too, since his status as natural born was debated by Congress when he ran for president.
