The fact that this very site places Mormonism in the non Christian group of religions and that Protestants have ministries dedicated to refuting the cult of Mormonism speaks volumes.
yep. It means that some don’t think I’m a Christian. I disagree with them. (shrug) Could you give me one good reason why I, when I disagree with their doctrines and opinions about Christ, that I should meekly accept their judgment that I am not Christian?
- You think that a star called Kalob is nearest the throne of God.
Cool. You know that Kolob is a
star! That’s unusual…
- You don’t believe in the trinity. You think the world has three separate deities.
Actually, that’s "the universe,’ not ‘the world,’ and while we do believe that They are three separate individuals, they are all God, not ‘gods.’ (shrug)
- Men and women can become gods and goddesses.
What we believe regarding that may be found here: 1.
Rom. 8: 16-17 16: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17:And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
We do take that quite literally, yes.
The ultimate goal of a Mormon is to become a deity through a process of exaltation. Lorenzo Snow stated: “As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become.”
Brigham Young stated: “The Lord created you and me for the purpose of becoming Gods like Himself.”
Yep, they said that.
- Baptism by proxy-Through the process of vicarious ordinances, a Mormon’s dead, non-Mormon ancestors can be baptized by proxy into the church. They believe that such baptism gives their ancestors the choice to join, or reject, the Mormon faith. This can result in the growth of the Mormon’s family in the Celestial Kingdom. The doctrines of eternal families and eternal marriage are closely related to this work for the dead. Hundreds of millions of ancestors have been so processed.
I am impressed. Truly; no sarcasm, no argument; I am truly impressed so far. Most people who make lists like this are so off base by now that I’m ready to throw something. So far, though…you aren’t doing too badly.
In this article at Catholic Online, the Vatican warns against the baptism of the dead. It ordered Bishops to not allow Parish records to be given to genealogical societies of the Mormon Church.
their choice.
However, I am a little confused about that. After all, you have just reminded us that we believe that there is a CHOICE there: nobody for whom the proxy work is done need accept it, because it’s not a done deal–it’s an offer; a final knock upon the door. That’s
our belief; that the choice is theirs and theirs alone. So there is no force involved even in our own perception of the thing.
Non-Mormons don’t believe that those for whom the work is done will ever know that it WAS done, because it is ineffective; useless, a waste of our time and record keeping.
So we have a weird thing going on here: Mormons are making an offer, and honestly believe that the people to whom we are making it have the absolute freedom to accept or reject it. Yet here the Catholics are refusing to allow genealogical records to be available to us, even though they believe that what we do is useless, and accuse us of disrespect. In the meantime, THEY are making the decisions for people; we aren’t.
Strange.
I’m sorry, I’m answering as I read, and I got sidetracked.

- Jesus came to the Americas and mingled with the natives. Artwork in the LDS churches show Jesus with them.
Yes. We believe that. It’s in the Book of Mormon.
Any religion that adds to the Bible and church tradition is heresy.
According to whom?
Catholics, the Orthodox, and Protestants see you as a cult. If you had a Baptist church sharing with you, it wasn’t for their recognition of truth.
Not a bad list at all. You are closer to our beliefs than the vast majority of those who criticize. However, we come back to this question: so what?
All that makes us not- Catholic, and not-Protestant.
How does any of that make us non-Christian?
