Which religion is grabbing the most Catholics?

I chose mainline protestantism based solely on the evidence at the small Episcopal church I attend. I’d say about 3/4 of the members are cradle Episcopalians, 1/4 are former Catholics, and 1/4 come from other protestant or irreligious backgrounds.

I choose New Age, because it was the closest to Atheism. I based my choice on my own struggles when Fundamentalists tried to convert me away. I came to the conclusion that either I could be Catholic or Atheist - there was no middle ground. Either God revealled himself by founding the Church (and a church founded by him wouldn’t die/fall away). Or there isn’t a God.

I suppose others don’t follow the same logic I do though…

I had the exact same thoughts. If athiesm was an option, I would have picked it. (although it isn’t really a religion)

Is it religion that makes us brothers and sisters in Christ or is it faith in the Messiah Jesus? If it is the latter what does it matter about religion and how many jump ship? As long as a person is a born again believer in Christ why is there division? There is only one God (Deuteronomy 6:4) and Jesus said he was the only way to the Father (John 14:6) so no matter which religion we observe if we love Jesus aren’t we all brothers and sisters through him? I wish that religion would just vanish so we could all be as one again with no division just like that church in the upper room. The folks in the upper room were not Catholic or Protestant they were Christians according to Acts 11:26. It wasn’t until 110 CE that Ignatious determined the Church that Christ established would be called universal (Katholicos or Catholic in English) and he was martyred for his faith in Jesus. Religion by its nature breeds contention and I see it as a means to divide and this is exactly what the enemy wants. To my Catholic brothers and sisters along with the few non-Catholics here would you agree that we would all be much better if we could agree upon the things that continue to divide us so that we could unite? Eph 1:10 says “that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth–in Him.” Oh how I long for the following, “Eph 4:13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ”. For there truly is, “Eph 4:4 one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; Eph 4:6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” My prayer is for the one body of Christ to unite as one and with his Word in our hearts I believe we could if we would only read it and let it live in us. Love to you all in Christ. P.S. Jesus is big enough for all of us to love him after all he created the universe.

I voted the new (old) age movement as there is a distinct n.a philosophy grabbing many of the “older” religeous.
Nothing like a Nun wearing a pentangle and saving trees
God Bless

Around here, the non-denom’s aren’t making much of an impact, but the Southern Baptists are gaining converts all the time. My impression is that most Catholic converts to S-B go because they want Sunday worship to be a classroom. I’ve literally seen them sitting in the pews with Bible, notebook, and pencil. When you ask them why they left the Church, the universal answer is, “I wasn’t being fed.”

Question: Are Southern Baptists Evangelical or Fundamentalist?

Justin
I believe most SB are Fundamentalist

I can tell you that the Evangelical Fundamentalists like to SAY that they are taking them all. The bottom line is that they are probably exagerating quite a bit. Still, I think that it is a threat and is a reason for all of us to be vigilant.

I’m going to guess this is a regional thing. In the south, where the predominate expression of faith is Evangelical Christian, that’s where former Catholics are going to go. In the Upper Midwest (IL, MI, WI) I think the trend is for the Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Presbyterians to gather them in. In the North East, maybe the trend is more toward just being unchurched.

Hello everyone, I just joined the group. This is Dr. Lucia Teen from Quezon City, Philippines.

Before I proceed with my introduction, I would like to clarify that I am a male and I am not a doctor. The log in I use is just some sort of anagram of my real name. This log in or nickname also serves some security purpose…to confuse the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) if ever they decide to track me down.

I was born and raised in the INC. I have professed my faith in its doctrines when I was indoctrinated and baptized.

I have been a very active officer of the INC…from the local level, to the Ecclesiastical Disctrict, to the INC Metro Manila Coordinating Committee and to the INC Central Office.

I have persecuted Catholics wherever I met them…including the internet.

I was very faithful to God, and he must have been the one who held me up high, outside and beyond the INC. I realized that I have been deceived. The INC created a very unreal image of itself and distorted everything about the Catholic Church.

I gradually stopped attending the INC worship services in the year 2000. In addition, I was very interested in knowing what the Jubilee Year was about and my Catholic friends were very kind to tell me.

In January 2001, I joined EDSA People Power 2 and was disappointed how the INC Administration could not declare a position while it was obvious that they are supporting former President Estrada. When the conflict ended, I attended my very first Catholic Mass…the Thanksgiving Mass at the EDSA Shrine officiated by Cardinal Sin.

In March 2001, after declaring to our resident minister that I have stopped believing the teachings of the INC, I left it. I did not want to join any organized religion afterwards, but I was already praying like a Catholic. I began having a devotion to the blessed mother Mary and the Holy Family.

On June 3, 2001, after reading a missallete from a mass we were unable to attend, I was convinced that the Church that Our Lord Jesus Christ established did not perish or completely apostatized. Christ built his church and the gates of hell did not prevail against it. He also promised that he will be with his church until the end of time.

On September 9, 2001, I received the last of the needed sacraments to complete my conversion. I converted to the Roman Catholic Church.

For me, the most powerful and effective way to bring people like the INCs to enlightenment…is prayer.

Pray and let others see Christ in you.

If you have questions about the INC, I may be able to answer them. Please avoid sending private messages or emails as I may not be able to reply. Answering similar questions over and over again would be very inconvenient.

If you want to know more about me, please check out everything that I have written on the following link

To all Catholics:

The POLL of this thread is deceptive or due to ignorance.

The title says: Which religion is grabbing the most Catholics?, then gives a very funny list of:

Mormonism
Jehovah’s Witnesses
Fundamentalist Protestantism
Evangelical Protestantism
Mainline (liberal) Protestantism
Eastern Religions (Hinduism, etc.)
New Age movement

Here except Eastern Religions (Hinduism, etc.) all are actually different sects/denominations/cults of Christiandom. Thus these are not new religions, unless Catholics do not consider them as Christians.

Those people who move from one sect/denomination/cult of Christiandom to another sect/denomination/cult of Christiandom are basically not changing the religion but shifting or modifying certain aspect of their Christianity. No???
  • If yes then the list of this POLL is deceptive.
  • If no, then Catholics think that only they are the ones who are Christians.
Dear Cathoilics please choose one yes or no from the above ]

And amazingly the name of religon of Islam is missing under "Eastern Religions"

FYI, Islam is the FASTEST-GROWING RELIGION in the world and even in the U.S.A, despite all kinds of false propaganda by the bias / deceptive channels of media.

And FYI, presently there are TWO BILLION MUSLIMS around the globe.

The Pentecostals are gaining grounds in a lot of hispanic communities and here in Puerto Rico. People are attracted to feeling the spirit, screaming out loud in church, singing and speaking in tongues.

I have neighbors who are Pentecostals, they hold services in their backyard a few times a month. I admire them, no matter how lost they may be, they are a charismatic bunch. They seem to really enjoy themselves. Every week it seems they have added more and more people. Scary stuff! But they are entitled to worship as they please.

I just wished they would buy a PA and stop using a megaphone.

I was born and raised in the Catholic Church, went to Catholic School. BUT I DID NOT UNDERSTAND THE FAITH. At the age of 21, I joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church through a program call the Daniel and the Revelation, They never explained who they were at first, alot of what they teach is, keep the Seventh Day as the Sabbath, the Catholic Church is lost, the anti-christ is the Pope. blah, blah, blah. Spent 18 years there. THERE ARE NOT ALOT of Adventists banging down the door to get into The Catholic Church, alot of it has to do with FEAR. There are some wonderful people in the Adventist church, I will pray for them( this includes my mother and sister). I have come home to the Catholic Church and I have the fulness of Christ in Communion, and feel my walk in this life is on the right path. I am still learning, and I am greatful to the Lord for leading me home.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!

That’s ok. Jesus died for their sins too.

so start your own poll… you have the “freedom” to do that

Islam is not an Eastern nor a Western religion.
Islam is not “grabbing” anybody because we dont have missionaries unlike most religions. People are coming to Islam because they find the truth and they are happy with it. I know of plenty of Christians who became Muslims and they are more devout as Muslims than they were as Christians. It does not really matter the number of Muslims in the world, as we are not competing with anybody to gain converts or have financial motives.

Muslim:
so, you pray for EACH and EVERY individual persons that died? your prayer must take looong time.
Yes.
40.png
Muslim:
saying “God help mankind” does not really take much of a time and thought and caring!
God knows our hearts.
40.png
Muslim:
instead of praying, why arent you out there feeding people? i am sure God would be happier if you saved one life rather than praying about saving everybody.
And how to you know I am not helping to feed the hungry and clothe the poor? You are very rude!

well give me the names of maybe lets say .001% of the people that died today… so that would be about 500…
because you are sitting on your *** typing antiIslamic stuff… thats how i know. volunteering couple of hours a week doesnt mean jack. if you really cared, you would do it all your life.

I’ve not typed one anti-Islamic remark.
My dialogue with you is finished. You lack manners and charity. May God have mercy on your soul.

my lack of manners? what do you know about my manners? we live in a world where sex, porn, drugs, etc. is abundant. people disrespects everybody. you have people who leaves their parents in a “senior center”… thats lack of manners.

numbers are irrelevant, correct…after all people convert to all kinda religions…but there is one person who said He is the Way, Life and Truth.
