I admire them, no matter how lost they may be, they are a charismatic bunch.
Lost? Pentecostals are Christians too. Let’s be careful that we don’t judge someone unfairly. I’ve met a lot of Pentecostals that loved God and were more devoted to Him than many Catholics. Only God sees someone’s soul, and only He can judge whether or not someone is lost. Regardless of what denomination they’re affiliated with.

And FYI, presently there are TWO BILLION MUSLIMS around the globe.[/INDENT]

I doubt this, but even if it is true, at the rate Muslims are killing one another, this will not be true for much longer.

It is very important what religion you are. We Catholics believe that ONLY Catholicism and Orthodoxy possess Catholicity, Apostolicity, and Holiness (with the Sacraments) and only Catholicism possesses fullness of Faith, with communion with the Successor of St. Peter.

Pentecostalism as with all Protestant ecclesial communities, possesses some truths, but is still in error.

in the philippines
  1. Dating daan
  2. Apollo Quiboloy’s church
  3. iglesia ni Cristo
  4. and protestant churches who claim themselves that they are christians and denies that they are protestant, when they see your eyebrows crossed they would quickly answer “because religion is bad…”

I notice that Eastern (or, for that matter, Western Rite) Orthodox are not among the choices.

I would say Evangelicals, as they are making deep inroads into Latin America, Rome’s heartland. In Brazil, the country with the largest number of those who follow Rome, more Pentacostals are in church on Sunday than those who attend mass.

Of course, reverts are a real blessing to your church.

I think the various New Age movements and neo-paganism are grabbing the most. Especially when you pause to consider the vast numbers who don’t even know they have been grabbed.

:mad:in the philippines it’s The Iglesia Ni Christo (manalo), if you watch their t.v programs
they spend an inordinate amount of time in trying to prove all catholic teaching as
false, close is ‘the ang dating daan (the old path)’ by one eli soriano another anti
catholic group whose founding member was a former Iglesia Ni Christo and the
so called non denomenation “accept jesus christ as your personal lord and savior
and presto you’re no longer a catholic” groups… and all OF THEM believe in
THE BIBLE ALONE!

I think it is the Jehovah’s Witnesses, there are really hard working, they came to visit without fail every week to share the bible. When you tell them that you are Catholic they will say that is good, we are here to share the bible and I thought it was no harm, they gave me a bible much later and when I compared it to ours, I find it very disturbing… and so I stopped them coming to visit me. I am glad I am Catholic and I still have a lot to know about Catholic …

Why is it that we Catholics don’t go visit people like they do, if we ever did I never in my Catholic life have been visited by one? I became a Catholic I guess because everybody are Catholics and the only church that time was the Catholic church, I never even know that they are other different types of Churches, that was some 35 years ago.

And now, my son who was baptised when he was still a baby is married to a Calvary Charismatic Christian which is also slowly expanding, I want my grandchildren to grow up Catholic but their mother is strongly opposed to it, her parents and siblings were formerly Catholics but I don’t know why they convert …

i was exposed to a lot of the doctrines of the jehova’s witnesses because i used to
share a flat with a few of them when i was working abroad, i even attended their
gathering in their kingdom halls, the jw’s i know are all sincere and nice people but
the longer i studied the bible with them the more i noticed that they have a lot of
difficulty answering some questions i have like why they made a lot of mistakes in
their interpretation of bible prophecy (they predicted the 2nd coming of christ several
times and each time proven wrong, now they believe that christ is already here but
his presence is invisible), why their new world translation of the bible contains trans-
lation discrepancy when compared to other bible translation etc,

as catholics we owe it to ourselves to study our faith in depth, the bible is a catholic
book and the catholic faith is entirely based on scriptures, otherwise there is the
danger of us falling prey to anyone who holds the bible and claims he comes from God!
it has taken me 40 years to come back to the catholic church, the journey has been
long indeed! during this time i have studied with ‘born again’ christians, mormons,
jehova’s witnesses, read the teachings of the church of christ (manalo)…
the more i studied and learn about the catholic faith the more i know that it is biblical
and it is the only church built by christ… GOD BLESS EVERYONE!🙂

Islam is not an Eastern nor a Western religion.
Islam is not “grabbing” anybody because we dont have missionaries unlike most religions. People are coming to Islam because they find the truth and they are happy with it. I know of plenty of Christians who became Muslims and they are more devout as Muslims than they were as Christians. It does not really matter the number of Muslims in the world, as we are not competing with anybody to gain converts or have financial motives.
Yes that is right, it does not really matter if the number of Muslims in the world are more as long as we have peace.

I totally agree with this.👍 One reason why Catholics search for the Truth in other places is their lack of knowledge and understanding about the Catholic faith. And the hip hop ministry techniques are just so attractive to them, especially since some of these people find the Mass “boring”.😦
Sad but it is true the younger generations find our church very boring and can’t wait for the mass to finish …

Many former Catholics I know and now members of Evangelical church had one thing in common why they left the Catholic chruch: they did not experienced Christ the way they experienced Him now (strong Biblical preaching, and out of ordinary worship).

Good day

This is a question about your perception, not about statistics. Someone undertaking a detailed sociological survey might be able to come up with hard numbers.

I’m looking for your gut feeling, which may be based in part on what has happened to people you know or know about.

In your estimation, which religion has been most successful in inducing one-time Catholics to join it?
Hey Karl.
I know you ask about religion.
But where I am many Catholics fall into secular liberal Catholicism… They do this because they are not hearing THE WORD preached in the manner that John the Baptist, Jesus and Paul did… The priests and all of us layevangelists don’t PREACH salvation but rather prefer to speak like … coffee club talk: all be nice to each other…
They dare not give an ALTERNATIVE to secular humanism… the Church is becoming a humanism-institution… so why go there?

I say this to you because when someone critizises the Masses or something when they call Catholic Answers or EWTN they are often told: “There is something wrong with you. The Church is perfect. You just dont get the mystery. Try to love the organ because thats the preferred instrument of God… and no we dont have to preach because we have the Sacrament and that´s most important…”.

EH?
The threat to Catholicism comes from within, when people don’t read Scripture and take seriously the Words of Christ. we are not being Evangelised. Even I can hear a zealous Catholic preacher… but what he then talks about is… the church… not Christ.

Someone said that Evangelical Christianity will die out in a matter of ten years… well if that’s the case we gotta learn from them fast… because they do a lot of things right that are dormant in the Catholic Churches. Two things to mention are great sermons about the GOSPEL MESSAGE and fellowship.

Shalom and Peace and thanks for reading this…

:rotfl: You joking right?
The only ones I have met that tried to make me change my religion the last years and become ike them were MUSLIMS- Yes… they are desperate to make converts.
But only the really lost ones come to them,… the atheists. People that never knew the true Love of God in the first place. Their life is a mess so they need the firm rules of Islam to help create an illusion of security. However, they get frustrated because they just follow rules… and never have assurance. They are slaves.

Christianity teaches us that we are children.

And actually the fastest growing faith in the world is Pentecostal Christianity. Muslims cling on to the myth that it is Islam but this is against all fact. In fact millions of muslims convert to Christianity every year in the third world countries.
They become free and happy individuals with their true dignity as sons and daughters of God.

That is absolutely true, Pentecostal Christianity is the fastest growing religion in the world (if of course you distinguish Pentecostals from Christianity in general).

Islam (whether you call it Muslim or not) is a heretical religion, because quite simply Muhammad did not believe Jesus actually died (therefore he could not have believed that God raised Jesus from the dead, a threshhold requirement enumerated by Paul at Romans 10:9). Hence, there can be no salvation through the Islamic religion.

I answered ‘fundamentalist’ in the poll-I should have put ‘evangelical’.

There are several evangelical ‘megachurches’ in my area, and I have the feeling that former Catholics are the majority members.

When I was a junior in high school [public] there was a ‘Campus Life’ group that started. Most, if not all, of the members were born/brought up Catholic. My twin sister got involved with the group because her friends influenced her too much. That got my mother all upset. I went to a couple of gatherings, but realized I was putting my Faith in danger, so I didn’t go again. I used to get into such arguments with my sister about her involvement with the evangelicals.

You’re onto some very important observations here.
