I saw that but are you saying the entire 60’s space program, which ultimately led to satellite, cable, internet, and cellular technologies and provided a boom for the U.S. economy, was a waste of taxpayer money? Do you really think Bank of America would have competed with the Russians to be first on the moon and first in communications?
Most of those developments were done at private research firms.

Pretty standard policy for NASA.

The 17th amendment was probably worse in this way, as it rendered the states impotent in controlling the federal government through the Senate.

Thank you, President Wilson. :nope:

Jon
We’d be better off as a nation if a lot of the later amendments were handled by the states.

Totally agree:thumbsup:
We’ve suffered for a hundred years of bad governance.

With re to any alternative income tax, we would still have to find a way it could not be manipulated, added to, increased or altered for it to remain a valid tax… ergo why it is not in accord with the original constitution and its principles

The way I see it, we didn’t accumulate the debt, so why should we have to pay for it?
Unfortunately the answer is because it is there and it directly effects our nation and its future existence… all we can do is stop the bleeding and apply medicine until it is healed. Then we can pass on a healthy economy to our restored nation

'Course mom told me I’m a radical purist that doesn’t see things pragmatically:D

ratified 1913… the beginning of the era of big gov’t… and the beginning of the end of freedom from gov’t
Thanks’ Woodrow Wilson. Thanks alot. Woodrow Wilson, who gave us the progressive income tax and the Federal Reserve. Both reasons why I usually consider him among the worst Presidents in US history.

More importantly, there is no constitutional reason. Wheher or not there is a good reason (and I agree there is not) is irrelevent.

Does anyone believe that the producers of Sesame Street lack the intellect or ability to be successful in the private sector? I certainly don’t. If Mickey Mouse can do it, why not Big Bird?

Jon
After Henson’s death, the show had been suffering a slow death of its own.

From KDVR-TV, Denver:

Mitt Romney has flipped the script.

Not only is the Republican presidential candidate, after a brutal month following the conventions, getting a significant bounce following his strong performance in last week’s debate, but Romney is also now the candidate articulating a more inspirational, positive vision for the country’s future (even if he is quoting regularly from the show, “Friday Night Lights”).

President Barack Obama, meanwhile, who’d benefited all summer from offering a more optimistic vision that contrasted with Romney’s negative assessment of the country’s economic situation, now seems to be going small.

A new ad released by the Obama campaign Tuesday, exactly four weeks from Election Day, features Big Bird and mocks Romney’s debate comment that he’d cut funding for PBS to reduce the deficit.

Big Bird’s response:

Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down.

Getting dissed by Big Bird…

When is the Obama campaign going to stop talking about the debate? … They cannot seem to turn the page from the debate. … Any conversation about that debate, I assume, helps Mitt Romney
Rich Klein, ABC
Team Obama makes a play using … Big Bird? The new Obama campaign ad uses a mock-serious tone to jump on Mitt Romney’s most famous debate line. It’s all in good fun, but the contrast may not be what President Obama is after, not now, not in this race. Romney is getting more serious by the day, with a foreign-policy speech and now Paul Ryan about to make the case for conservative fiscal policies. Romney marches toward Benghazi, while the president marches down Sesame Street?

Politico says it is ‘small ball’

Mitt Romney Can’t Roast Big Bird With PBS Cuts
Romney’s proposal to zero-out federal spending for public broadcasting will have little to no effect on Sesame Street’s budget because the show receives “very, very little funding” from PBS, Sesame Street’s executive vice president Sherrie Westin told CNN last week. Westin said the majority of the show’s funding comes from corporate sponsorships, product sales and donations.
“Quite frankly, you can debate whether or not there should be funding of public broadcasting. But when they always try to tout out Big Bird, and say we’re going to kill Big Bird – that is actually misleading, because Sesame Street will be here,” Westin said. “Big Bird lives on.”
Romney zings Obama: You have to scratch your head when he spends the last week talking about saving Big Bird

Obama is totally playing small ball. I can’t imagine Obama sitting for an interview with Nickelodeon and running a Big Bird political ad. This guy must be counting on Obama cult followers for re-election.

Angry birds on Sesame Street want Obama to take down PBS ad
Big Bird will not be anyone’s political puppet.
Sesame Workshop has asked the Obama campaign to take down a new TV ad that prominently features the famous talking bird, in a satirical spot mocking Mitt Romney for calling for an end to PBS subsidies.
“Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns. We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down,” Sesame Workshop said in a statement.
An Obama campaign official said it has received the request and “will review their concerns.”

As Jeff Emanuel tweeted in regard to Obama, "“nothing says “I’ve completely lost control of this narrative” like embracing a seven-foot-tall yellow-feathered multi-millionaire.”

I can see the wisdom here, since most people on Sesame Street had never seen Mr. Snuffleupagus or Obama’s budget.
