Who’s ‘godless’ now? Russia says it’s U.S

I have not a great deal of admiration for Patriarch Kirill and none at all for Putin. But that doesn’t mean they’re wrong in a good part of what they’re saying. Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then.

In Russia it is not a crime to be a practicing homosexual. What’s forbidden are the special interest groups who promote same-sex marriage, or who promote special status being given to homosexuals. That’s my understanding, anyway.
Correct.

Russia is also the last remaining superpower with a leader who is willing to defend Christianity in public. Let that settle in for a moment.

What’s even more interesting is that not even fifty years ago, Russia was the most atheistic regime on the planet.

I think the 1984 Consecration of Russia has certainly had an effect.

It sounds like people here don’t even know Russia’s controversial law regarding homosexuality. It isn’t a crime to be a practicing homosexual in Russia, this law people keep talking about simply bans homosexual propaganda being targeted at minors. I don’t see why Catholics are up in arms about this. Catholic parents don’t you behave similarly when it comes to your kids? Don’t you try to prevent them from taking in the immoral messages regarding sex in our society? The uproar over this law by Catholics seems to be rooted not in morals, but in distinctly modern western sensibilities.

Pope Leo XIII’s encyclical, Pacem In Terris acknowledges our right to free speech, with the caveats of this speech being within the limits of the moral order and common good. (see here at #12: vatican.va/holy_father/john_xxiii/encyclicals/documents/hf_j-xxiii_enc_11041963_pacem_en.html)

We don’t have a moral or civil right to call for the murder of someone else, we don’t have the moral right to blaspheme even though we have a civil right to do so according to the U.S. government. And in the case of Russia, how can we possibly say that someone has a moral right to promote immoral sexual practices to minors? I don’t believe the Russian government is in the wrong by enacting such a prohibition, I think under Pope Leo XIII’s remarks on free speech, that it complies with the Catholic understanding of free speech.
Its John XXIII not Leo

I support Russia wholeheartedly. I think Putin’s great too, he’s far from perfect, but I think he’s the best world leader we have.

I am a Catholic, I am an American, I am a republican, I am a patriotic flag waver. And I completely agree. It goes against our nature to say “Russia is right” those of us raised in the space race or the cold war know exactly how contrary to our nature that thought is. But it is the state of the wolrd we live in. Russia is right on many things. And in some ways, the most important things. We have fed ourselves a healthy diet of spy movie james bond villains of russia and at one time they were completely accurate. Then Russia converted. What you are seeing is the fruits of Our Lady, a soon to be saint Pope, and God. And it is hard for us to accept.

I have never been a love it or leave it kind of guy. Just like the Russian people had to live in unbelieveable and unholy times, they did not leave, and now they are being brought back around. So we must live (and maybe die) in this time and place. Now it is us who must repent and be consecrated. I just hope that by the time hillary is out of office it is not too late.🤷

America is like a kid who used to get A’s, but who now get’s D’s. Russia’s like a kid who used to get F’s, but now get’s C’s.

Good evening, Seamus L,

I agree.

I’ve also noticed a different type of poster on this thread. People seem to hold Putin’s past against him. I say give him the benefit of the doubt, that maybe he’s made some changes in his life. I know what it’s like to make sincere changes in my life, and other people in my offline life still think of me as in the past. We shouldn’t do that to Putin.

God loves you,
Don

The Fascist Mafia State of Russia calling the USA godless. LOL teapots and kettles, black.

If Russia is a Godly country than God really must be dead 😃

I don’t think you people realize how many human rights violations occur in Russia (and I mean beating up journalists and gays . . .etc.), including, not allowing Catholics their full constitutional religious rights (and if you don’t believe me, google it). Moreover, I don’t like it’s interference in the Ukraine and some other countries (when Poland wanted to frack the natural gases that they have, Russia deliberately cut off its gas/oil supply in retaliation).

p.s. You should also look up Anna Kushchencko Chapman, a Russian spy in America who is lauded by Putin (she is no longer allowed in America and/or Britain, and is now residing in Russia).

Personally, I think it’s a veneer, i.e., superficial at best (scratch beneath the surface and there’s not that much religiosity amongst Russians).

Gays get beat up in America too. Journalists are usually the ones dishing out the beatings but sometimes a TMZ cameraman gets punched.🤷 The difference is in america homosexuals who adopt children are allowed to commit “child abuse” (the pope’s words) It is all in how you look at it.

The following makes me sad. What exactly is wrong with recognition of rights for sexual minorities. Should they not have rights? Should we begin torturing murderers? **Also, what’s wrong with Catholocism? **We were around for far longer than the Russian Orthodox Church. Even though this is one sentance from a larger essay, it doesn’t reflect Christian values.
Is Putin anti Catholic?

Amen. 👍

I’m sure Gays do get beat up in America (and elsewhere), but the situation in Russia is not the same, i.e., the Russian government is promulgating disrimination (and I mean of basic human freedoms).

p.s. I’m all for not allowing them to adopt and/or marry but this is a question of basic human freedoms, and the inherent dignity of ALL human beings.

p.p.s Did you miss the part where I said that Catholics are being denied their constitutional religious rights?

Given that homosexuality is not a biological condition there is no reason to recognize it anymore than any other psychological condition.

Would they like us to start abducting and torturing suspected homosexuals like they do? What’s sadder than the USA’s “godlessness” is the thought that such behavior is “godly”!
I would just settle for outlawing the homosexual indoctrination of our children and homosexual unions.
