I claim “Fair Use” and trust that the Bishops will not sue me for plagiarizing their work. 😃

According to the Bishops, the smallest level of government that is required to secure the basic human rights of all people - and corporations are NOT people. If it can be accomplished at the state level - then good. If it requires a federal program - fine.

All people have a right to life, food, clothing, shelter, rest, medical care, education, and employment. - That’s John Paul II’s list.

Support for education
Access to food
Unemployment compensation
Security in old age
Protection of the environment

These are all things the Bishops say the government should do. You should read whole document. It is frightfully prophetic.

All this is provided in the USA. Want the country to run better and more effective? Vote for TRUE CHRISTIANS instead of quoting the Pope/Bishops and voting for a Socialist agenda. Pay close attention to whom you vote for, Know their History, their stance, there depth of religious belief. And understand clearly the direction they are talking about taking this country.

All the points you make exist already here. And have for a very long time. The reason cuts are happening is because we have decades of deviation from the very concept you are preaching. Which is Christainity.😉

Peace

If only that were really the case.

Many people in America have lost their jobs their health care their homes and it will always have an effect on their self esteem.
Life is tough very tough all over the world at present especially in America. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a job or keep their home.

The Occupy protests are about getting priorities back to caring about those who need help.
For those of you who are not (yet) affected by the financial crisis then I am happy for you truly I am .Remember those who do not have your luck.

I have been personally involved to financially help someone who is from these forums from America who lost their home is disabled with desperate health conditions and is in desperate need still.Another friend on here who lost his job a while ago and is depserately worried he will lose his benefits,he cannot get another job.
Life is really really tough out there.Where you are you may be very lucky.

Please remember those who do not have what you are blessed to have

Our role as Christians is to love our neighbour (everyone) and give to the poor, feed the hungry, help the homeless, and so forth with Christian love.
Luck? That has nothing to do with it. It takes hard work and setting one’s priorities.

We have a family member who is gainfully employed but couldn’t sell his house. He asked the bank about refinancing it. No could do. His credit is good and he has a great job. The house is worth less now then when he paid for it because of the market. Then he asked what if he bought another home. Oh yes, they could float him a loan for that. Does that make sense?? He knows he doesn’t want a second home because he couldn’t afford one. Forty years ago, you couldn’t get a house unless you had a job, had a down payment, and your spouse’s salary was not taken into consideration because she might get pregnant and would stay at home. Ownership of a house is a responsibility, not a right. It is a money pit. My take on all this is the government wants to drive people into foreclosure pulling the maket prices down in order to deter private ownership of property. Welcome to Russia of the 1920s. And why does Barney Frank still have a job?

It’s downright scary what they are doing. It makes me really wonder about my classmates and their abilities to “think independently”
I’m worrying with you. This reminds me of how the riots in England developed. 😦

I saw this on a comedy website that I frequesnt (Go figure, it’s liberal basedf:rolleyes:) and I think it sums up the best argument they got. They are relying on people like this girl who inherited their money and never had to work a real day’s worth of work in their life - they had everything handed to them. You know what they say - easy come, easy go. She never learned the true value of her money, so of COURSE she’s fine with the government taking it. I say let her GIVE her “excess” to the poor (why does it have to be forcibly taken?) and then let her work her way back up and see just how HARD it is to earn a buck. See how much she’s for redistribution then.

If I had that kind of money, I’d paid to have a sign made that would be a little more visible.

How does this relate to the Occupation of Wall Street?
it’s been a strange progression. One poster said that they thought the OSW people were protesting for " economic justice" . ,It turns on nobody could really giveus definition of just exactly what economic justice is until another poster Googled up a 1986 USCCB document that had economic justice in the title and voilà this morphed into what the OSW people were protesting for! The reality is the OSW people haven’t a clue as to what it is they protesting for and basically just enjoy hanging out in the park were sex, drugs and rock 'n roll are readily available and other people, desperate to find a LiberaL equivalent to the tea party, impute goals to their movement that they themselves are unable to enunciate. . I suspect this movement will dissipate soon after the first snow begins to fall.

She should use the “human microphone” to invite everyone to lunch on her. 🙂

I’m not sure if it’s courageous or stupid to stand in the middle of a crowd that hates rich people holding a sign letting everyone know you are rich.

Looks like the guy over her left shoulder is enjoying the view.

I supect you will find her picture in the illustrated dictionary under the heading “Liberal White Guilt”.

510 posts so far on a topic that isn’t going to have any effect on our lives or on the elections, and which will be a footnote in NYC history in another month. Why the obsession with the topic? I’m scratching my head on this one. 🤷

Fair enough. I guess that’s why the media isn’t covering it.

To answer your question, it’s because a handful of liberals keep trying to claim that the OWS rant has deeper meaning, tied to the teaching of the bishops…even though there is no connection.

Still, 500+ posts, and so many of them deriding the protesters as hippies and spoiled brats. Don’t understand either side - not the protesters, not the complainers about them. 🤷

Okay. I guess you should spend your time in other threads then. 🤷

…or are you just copying the OWS crowd and ranting without purpose?

(See how I kept that on topic? Skillage. 😉 )

I believe you can go to a specific web site and Craig’s list and apply for $10-12 per hour to protest with the Wall Street protestors.

The more I hear of the soundbites coming out of these “occupations” and their disdain, along with Obam’s disdain for anything America, i’m really getting worried for this Country.
