Who are the protesters behind Occupy Wall Street–and what do they want?

Yes, a bullhorn is “amplified sound” - the protesters on Wall Street were prohibited from using them - so they created the “human microphone” so their voices could be heard.

The protest in the video shows a man with a bullhorn - that is because they were in Atlanta. However, the “Human Microphone” is a defining feature of the movement - so they are emulating what is going on in New York. It also allows the voices of the people in crowd to be heard.

The folks in that crowd in Atlanta look pretty ordinary to me - not “looney” at all. What is looney in my book is bringing a gun to a “peaceful” protest.

I just think the charade of “consensus” was pretty laughable. The guy with the megaphone was in control. Basically, he decided there was no consensus and wouldn’t be one, therefore they would go with what he decided.

For all of those who do not understand why the crowd repeats everything the speaker says, it is because they are emulating the “Human Microphone” that was developed as a response to the prohibition placed on the protesters on Wall Street from using “amplified sound”.

John Lewis arrived without notification at the Atlanta protest. He was not silenced, but was asked to wait until after the agenda had been completed. He had another engagement and could not wait. The group has issued an apology. John Lewis says he is not upset about it.

This is an example of fishing for reasons to diss this movement. I suppose everyone who is outraged is a real John Lewis supporter

And yet, carrying the gun was legal. It may not be your cup of tea, but tell me again how many arrests the OWS crowd is up to now? There is a large gulf of difference between choosing not to do something, and breaking the law.

That may look weird to you, but nothing you mention rises to the level of deserving the sort of hostility against these protesters that is running rampant on this forum.

I have the same exact reaction to the way Evangelical Christians talk and behave - but I don’t go around attacking them for their mannerisms. However, I will attack their ideas - especially the ones that are anti-Catholic or conflict with Catholic views of social and economic justice.

The “what the Wall Street Occupiers are upset about” should also include free health care, pay independent of work, a $20 minimum wage, free college education, hygene, parents, terrorist being arrested (Boston) , outlaw all credit reporting agencies, and racial and gender equality amendment.

That’s how we get such things as federal funding for free sandals for gay ex-nuns with a foot fetish in Fruitland, FL. They are allied with some other PACs, and together they make up a formidable force. Bingo! They get funded. It is also why you might encounter gays demonstrating against anti-abortion groups. One might wonder why gays need abortion, and the answer is they are probably joined with Planned Parenthood.

I’m sure, given the information, that we could make an equivalent Venn diagram that shows competing non-business PACs that lobby congress. Some of them are even liberal.
