Other than Donald Trump’s, I’m not sure whose votes he’d get. The way he’s going he’ll be lucky not to be either silenced, excommunicated, or a co-host on the Alex Jones conspiracy show.
Interesting analysis. So here is my analysis: Cardinal Sarah won’t make it. He is a holy man and an African which would have drawn the votes of the middle liberals as well as the conservatives. But the debacle over the joint book with Benedict has wrecked that option.
Card Tagle is the darling of the liberals but he’s too obviously being groomed for the job and this gets up the noses of the independents.
Therefore my money is on Ouellet, because he is thought to be a conservative but won brownie points with the liberals by not supporting Vigano.
My own preference? Sarah.
I pray this never happens, for the good of the Church. And I don’t think it will. Thankfully.Cardinal Reinhard Marx is who my money is on. He’s one of the few cardinals that have real proven leadership experience, wheras most of the rest are more like followers. He also has a grand vision for the future of the Church that appeals to those cardinals appointed by Pope Francis, who are now in the clear majority.
A lot more likely than Cardinal Sarah, or anyone who would appeal to the Trads,I pray this never happens, for the good of the Church. And I don’t think it will. Thankfully.
If there was such a thing as a spirit animal, Snoopy would be mine…and Woodstock…package dealAlso, cute profile picture!
This implies there is a single good candidate.Perhaps I am too hopeful that the Cardinal electors will follow the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Yes, they have free will and can choose to ignore the Spirit. We’ll just pray that they don’t do that.
Not sure how my post implies there is only one good candidate…?This implies there is a single good candidate.
I would argue there are numerous cardinals who would make excellent popes.
I say of Cyrus, My shepherd!
He carries out my every wish,
Saying of Jerusalem, “Let it be rebuilt,”
and of the temple, “Lay its foundations.”
Isaiah 44:28
How does it imply that? Everyone else is reeling off names. @Glennon_P did not name anyone. This implies there is a single good candidate.
As someone rapidly approaching that age, I do not see 75 or 80 as an absolute barrier for the right person. 75 is the age where bishops must offer their resignations. Archbishop Chaput is not a cardinal, so his chances would be greatly reduced as a retired archbishop in the US when the cardinals are meeting in Rome.John XXIII, Benedict XVI and Francis were all over 75 when they were elected. 80 might be a cut off age, but 75 is not.
