Its better then dealing with a game breaking bug that cant simply be patched out. Also, what update take hours? Ive never had one takes more then a few minutes.
Simple. You live in a country with free or readily accessible (and reliable) broadband internet. I live in a country were internet access is limited, unreliable, expensive, or all three.

a 5GB update takes around a week around here (and no, I am not amking this up).

What I hate about modern video games: endless so called “updates” that make you wait hours, days or sometimes even weeks before you can actually play the game.

I miss the good old days when you could just pop a CD/DVD ROM into your PC, click install and then play when installation is done.
I agree. One of the things I always appreciated about Nintendo was their commitment to releasing complete games, even if that meant pushing back the launch date. Of course, even Nintendo broke that rule with Splatoon. When it launched, there were only 5 maps and 1 online game mode. Over the past six months, they rolled out 8 more maps, 3 more online game modes, and dozens of additional weapons and gear. I don’t mind when they add extra content that is truly extra—like the extra tracks for Mario Kart 8. But when it is apparent that the game is receiving a gradual roll out, it is a tad annoying.

What bugs me especially is when they sell a deluxe edition for extra $$$ with content that should be in the ordinary retail game anyways. They did this recently with the new Star Wars game that just came out. For only $119.99, I could get the ‘‘Ultimate’’ edition which lets you use ion grenades and torpedoes (ooohhhh) and gives you access to the DLC right when it comes out. (ahhhh) There’s not even a single-player campaign.

Should be called the Ultimate Cash Grab edition. No reason a multiplayer only game should cost that much.

Indeed. 😦 That’s way too expensive. Of course, it is still cheaper than getting the ultimate Skylanders or Disney Infinity experience. :o

I fear it will only get worse. Mobile games in particular are normalizing the “add-on” dimension of gaming. The actual release of a game is but a moment on one long continuum.

What’s worse is expensive downloadable content (DLC) that only make minor changes in games.

By the way there’s already a new Tomb Raider game (for the rebooted series): Rise of the Tomb Raider. I can’t wait to have it for Christmas. 😃

In the Japanese video game for Vita, Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls, a story of two girls - one a clueless but kind at heart high school girl (Komaru) and multiple personality disorder angry yet kind on the inside/serial killer girl (Toko) teaming up. They have to survive and resolve a despair inducing scenario, of a group of wronged children who use robot killer teddy bears to murder adults.

In one scene Komaru sees a ghost who reveals a secret, Toko scares it off invoking “Jesus Christ”. Now that is quite problematic for obvious reasons and she (Toko) even says that she does not believe ghosts or religious stuff. Until later on we find that the ghost was real because it told a true fact and by the end of the story Toko has started to believe in ghosts and maybe more. One can make of this what one wants and I’m not sure if the Christ reference was not introduced in the English translation but in any event, it really did scare a ghost off.

Recently I watched my brother play the recent Tomb Raider reboot. It’s surprisingly sadistic with a level of gore that goes way overboard at times, but many sequences play out like an edge-of-your-seat virtual action movie - and if they count, they’re some of the most exciting set pieces I’ve ever witnessed.

Thanks for sharing. I really liked Skyward Sword for many of the same reasons. At first, I thought Groose was going to wind up getting totally corrupted and turning into Ganondorf. But I’m glad they went the direction they did. With Twilight Princess, they went with the gigantic overworld and Skyward Sword really tightened it up with only three main land areas and the sky as the central hub. I thought it was a nice change of pace that made it easier to get around. Zelda Wii U will be back to offering probably the biggest overworld yet.

That’s exactly what I thought was going to happen too. Plus, he’s Link’s first prominent guy friend as far as the mainstream console games post-Ocarina go.

I just bought Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax for the PS3. Bunch of anime characters, some of which I like some of which I don’t, in a fighting game. Should be interesting.

Now playing the original Half-Life. It’s exciting, but it’s also very grim.

One of my favorite games. Have you tried the new version, called Black Mesa? It’s basically the original Half Life with updated engine and graphics. They also added some of the characters from Half- Life 2.

I still prefer the original myself, but it’s a pretty solid remake.

I see that Super Smash Brothers has had its final DLC character announced: Bayonetta. Not surprised she was a popular choice in the polls, but I am a little surprised she was picked.

Anyone here played either of her games?

man I was really hoping Shovel Knight would be in smash. There really needed to be a good indie character representative

I’m playing Half-Life Source, the remaster that came around around the time of Half-Life 2.
