Who here likes video games? Anyone?

I’m not as big a gamer as I used to be, but I’m currently playing through the Zelda series, starting from Ocarina of Time, and reviewing it on my blog. I think Zelda games define my childhood even more than Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz, and Lord of the Rings, so they’re making me feel like a kid again.

I used t be a “hardcore” gamer, where I would play games like Star Wars Galaxies for up to 10 hours a day(taking away two for time in the bathroom and eating). Thence when SWG shut down I moved over to some Asian MMOs for a bit with a group of people I met on SWG, before my laptop finally died on me while I was browsing some forums.

Then my older brother gave me his old gaming laptop, and I got in SWTOR, and was addicted to that for about two months before my guild fell apart, so I quit the game, and then just generally stopped playing games… Then gave my younger brother the laptop, and only use it to play Life is Strange,

So… Yeah, I am now a casual gamer, only playing games like Vainglory on the iPad, and am waiting for the last episode of Life is Strange. I am eventually planning on finishing development of a 2d RPG eventually using my brother’s computer though, I just need some motivation(more aimed toward my brother and his friends, the story is literally about them).

I like alot of games of alot of genres, Zelda(my childhood) Pikmin, Fallout(i am pumped for fallout 4) Saints row(as its satire of open world world games and knows what it wants to be) trying to get back into Monster hunter 4 U but meh didn’t strike me as much as 3 and 3 ultimate did. Shovel knight is a good game that is a good “retro” if you will style game

Anyone play BioShock Infinite? It’s incredible - not just a great game, but truly profound, unsettling, and moving.

As I’ve told other friends of mine, BioShock Infinite is basically Flannery O’Connor + Tom Stoppard + Quentin Tarantino.

It’s really violent, but that’s a thematically critical motif: the violence is supposed to be disturbing, and ultimately the player character’s violence isn’t what saves the day at all.

Check out this trailer if you’re curious about it!

Warning: even the trailer is violent in a few parts, though most of it isn’t.
So I finally got around to playing this game and…wow, you were right! That ending left me with so many conflicting emotions. I beat it a few days ago and I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about it. One thing it did though was make me want to replay the whole thing again, which I haven’t felt at the end of a game in a long time.

I loved almost every part of this game, but my favorite part might be the anachronistic music:

I thought that was clever.

I’ve been talking about wanting Zestiria for months, but the more I hear/read about it, the less enthusiastic I am. Hearing they treat one of the main heroines and some tech glitches/issues has dampened my enthusiasm enough, but what’s really basically pushed me over the edge is how the two main heroes are, more or less, gay. It’s not stated outright, but the hints are apparently anything but subtle. The usual crowds are very happy about this.

sigh

Cool. I’ve been doing this with my daughter, but not in order. I started with Wind Waker, then first half of Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, and the second half of Twilight Princess. Now we’re on Ocarina of Time. I tried Link to the Past, but those 16 bit graphics didn’t hold her interest. 😛 My goal is to make it through Ocarina and Majora’s Mask by the time the new one comes out next year. It is funny how much I remember about where things are at in the game when I haven’t played some of them in more than 15 years.

I played a decent chunk into A Link to the Past, but I haven’t played it in months. I just beat the Forest Temple in Twilight Princess. I was going to take a break from Zelda with Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, but I didn’t appreciate the lasciviously designed outfits on all of its women (and from what I know, the sequel is even worse in this regard). As I say in my Majora’s Mask review, I wish that there were a threequel to Ocarina of Time. Twilight Princess is the closest thing I have to it.

It looks like your not that big a fan of Wind Waker. 😛 The Wii U version contains one crucial addition from the GameCube version: the speed sail. With that sail equipped, your boat goes twice as fast and the wind is always at your back regardless of where you turn. It really removed the monotony of the sailing and constantly busting out the Wind Waker to change the wind’s direction. And with the GamePad, you can switch items without pausing and always have the map in view. It was a much different experience for me on the Wii U. I had a lot of fun playing that one (twice) with my daughter.

Majora’s Mask is still my favorite, though. It would be cool if there was a threequel.

Playing the song of controlling people was also pretty annoying.

Majora’s Mask is what a good sequel should be: keeping core elements of its predecessor while serving a completely different story.

Anyone into Crusader Kings 2 here? I usually spend my time converting everyplace I can to Catholicism and enforcing Papal Investiture 😛

YES

I became Holy Roman Emperor on three separate games. 😛

Nice, I started as Matilda of Tuscany and within a generation got elected Emperor, crushed the Moors, and have begun triangulation against the Byzantine Empire
What I find… (well it’s not “not like” but) disturbing about Crusader Kings II… is that you have an option to undo the Great Schism as an Orthodox realm, but once you repaired it Catholicism becomes a heresy - at least when you have the Legacy of Rome DLC  (which is ironic and understandable at the same time, since the focus of the DLC is the Byzantine Empire - the last political remnant of the Roman Empire in the Middle Ages)

But if I play an Orthodox realm I’ll make sure that never happens. 😛

A lot of mods (I play this mod called CK2+) give you the option to mend the schism as a Catholic, or avoid the schism altogether in earlier starts. One time I mended the schism but then embraced the Catholic “heresy” making it the mainstream and reducing Orthodoxy to a heresy

Link please! 🙂

Wait are we not allowed to share links to downloads? I’ve been out of the forums for so long I’ve forgotten the rules. :o

EDIT:
Nevermind. Found a link at the Crusader Kings II wiki:

However I do have issues with this change though:
Catholic and Orthodox religions are united as Chalcedonian Christianity in the Old Gods and Charlemagne bookmarks.
It’s like they’re downplaying Catholicism; although I do recognize that the mod creators are trying to be “neutral” and were thinking about Orthodox Christian players.

But it does make me wonder how the Catholic and Orthodox churches developed before the Great Schism, and how to defend our claim that we Catholics are the first Christians. From what I know differences were already there even before the Schism. And besides the Church before the Great Schism didn’t call itself the “Chalcedonian Church”. Both the Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches call themselves “Catholic”.

:hmmm:

I know you can mod mods (LOL)… but the specifics with this one ^ are kinda hard to find… I’m not even an expert on modding.

Chalcedonian is a neutral term here used to describe the Church in its form excluding both Monophysite Copts and the Church of the East, or in other words the truth held from the Council of Chalcedon which was held by the Western and Greek bishops. In the mod it takes the form of different patriarchies having different influences (similar to orthodox mechanics except the Pope has primacy over the entire west and most non-Greek areas). The player can avoid the schism in the mod by, after jumping through several hurdles, installing their respective See as universal patriarch. I have yet to play the mod in an early start, but I think I will play as Charlemagne and attempt to use his empire and his descendants to avoid the schism, subdue the Eastern bishops and Empire, and have them recognize the rightful Roman see

In my current HRE game nonetheless I will attempt to mend the schism as Catholic Emperor
