Any place should have somebody in control.Who controls hell ?.I mean the person (or spirit) who ensures that punishment of the appropriate intensity is inflicted upon the residents, nobody escapes, sufficient materials to keep the fire going on is stocked, sufficient supply of worms etc are there etc ?
Or is it that nobody is in control there and once you are thrown there even God won’t care what is happening there?

Catechism
1033 … To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God’s merciful love means remaining separated from him for ever by our own free choice. This state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed is called “hell.”

1035 … The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.

  1. Do not blame God.
  2. The devil is primary in hell, as it was created for him and his minions.
  3. The least sinful in hell will suffer as much as the worst in hell - there is no justice! There is no love! No friendship. No “back nine” to play with your buddies. Notihng heavenly or even earthly will occur there. It is a special place which awards in the negative, but not fairly, as fairness embodies compassion. Whatever happens there is perfect justice. And social justice there is pure hell.
You just don’t want to end up there, that’s all.

Sufficient supply of worms? I think you’re taking the words overly literally.

God is “in charge” of hell, just as God is in charge everywhere.

If God was truly absent from hell, then hell would cease to exist as God is Existence Itself. It’s impossible for anything to exist without God willing that thing into existence and sustaining it.

This isn’t consistent withbhowni have heard hell described in Catholicism. Rather it appears to import elements From pop-culture or Dante’s inferno. Is hell a physical place? Does there need to be a command hierarchy need to be in place to ensure that a harsh situation remains harsh?

Good question from a theological standpoint. . But also perfect for jokes. “I’d like to speak to the manager, please.” “Waiter, there’s a fly in my soup.”

the term “in charge” is problematic…

I’m trying to stay “on topic” which is what what we are supposed to do in these threads

who is “in charge” of hell?

i’d’ve going to have said: satan

The way you really know that it’s hell is because a committee is in charge.

Yes,I also think it should be satan.
  1. He is the only person who is interested and attempting maximum from the beginning of the world to see that people should go to hell. What for? To ensure that more souls will be under him in hell than in heaven.More people under you means more status and prestige
2.There is no dispute about the fact that sin is increasing day by day in this world with the result that towards the end more people will go to hell than to heaven.Managing billions of people and that too full of criminals and sinners only, is not an easy task.Who is better to be entrusted with that work other than satan?
  2. Billions of people means there can be shortage of sufficient fire and worms to cover each. People will fight fiercely to get these .If nobody responsible is there it will lead to utter chaos.

Someone at church told me yesterday
That Lucifer - is at the top
And his two bench men are Satan and Beelzebub
The unholy trinity -
They are the three top evil spirits.

I went along with him…but never heard THAT before.

Satan is not in charge of Hell for the same reason an inmate is not in charge of the prison.

Satan does not want more damned souls to increase his prestige. He wants them because he hates us with a bitter hatred we can’t properly imagine, and so he wants us to suffer the worst agonies he can manage for all eternity.

Hell is not a bureaucracy or a business venture. There will be no need for ‘management’.

Do you understand that the fire and the worms are punishment? Nobody in Hell wants the fire.

Also there is no question of sufficient fuel for the fire or enough worms to cover all the damned. This is not a business venture. The power of God fills Hell with fire.

The chief punishment of hell is eternal separation from God, in whom alone man can possess the life and happiness for which he was created and for which he longs.
Many many Christians miss this point. The fiery brimstone version of hell was coined by Dante’s divine comedy. (really inspirational work). There is no punishment in hell there is simply a lack of God. So you are in another universe (whatever that means) where God is not. Some would argue thats the true punishment because if you’ve ever been locked out of a party and couldn’t get in you’d know the self beating you do.

Now this is just conjecture on my part so take it with a grain of salt but an eternity of existence outside of the most rocking party in creation twiddling your thumbs sounds way worse then being ripped apart by rusty molten hooks. Youre trapped in your own head forever beating yourself up over how you screwed up.
Not to mention the fact that God is the Creator, a universe without a creator is… what? A void? The endless expanse of empty space or worse? No space or time? You can only perceive yourself?

Rusty hooks sounds really good right about now.

There is a problem if we say that the punishment in hell is the absence of God.For people who purposely deny God ,who don’t want God and who don’t want to obey his commandments( these type of people only go to hell) is it of any concern? Rather they will be happy that God is not around and away from them!

You’ve never been tormented by your own mind have you? Ever heard of a derivation chamber? Very few can stomach them for long.

from what i understand & correct me if i am wrong

“satan” is an english language moniker of the leader of the fallen angels; ie the ex-seraph lucifer
