Satan and hell are connected:
‘Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain. And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years were ended. After that he must be loosed for a little while.’ Rev 20:1-3

Ever heard of a derivation chamber? Very few can stomach them for long.
Derivation: the formation of a word from another word or base (as by the addition of a usually noninflectional affix)

I could see where that might be considered torture… Endless linguistic quizzes

… About the type of punishment in hell Jesus said in Mark 9:43-48 that hell is

“Where the worm dieth not, and the fire is not extinguished.”

So I feel that the punishment is basically that. Moreover Jesus never indicated that the feeling ofabsence of God would be the chief punishment in hell because he knew that for the people there ,this aspect is not at all a concern.

The greatest suffering in Hell is that the damned are denied the Beatific Vision, the presence of God. The reason this counts as suffering at all is that we were created for the Beatific Vision. It’s our intended destiny. To lose it is to fail at what we were created for.
The pain of sense–the fire of Hell-- is beyond our ability to understand in this life but it’s less than the loss of the Beatific Vision.

There is a problem if we say that the punishment in hell is the absence of God.For people who purposely deny God ,who don’t want God and who don’t want to obey his commandments( these type of people only go to hell) is it of any concern? Rather they will be happy that God is not around and away from them!
Yes, it seems that God is everywhere but those in the state of hell do not have the Beatific Vision. Catechism
1045 … The beatific vision, in which God opens himself in an inexhaustible way to the elect, will be the ever-flowing well-spring of happiness, peace, and mutual communion.

According to the BIble yes it is Satan. However Jewish tradition says that this angel too was thrown there, so he is not its creator since he was thrown into something that previously existed.
I read that some of the hermits said hell was never created for humans, that is why it is so hard for us there, but humans get there by their insistence to not make amends to God, our Father, even if we are favored by Him.

The NT commonly refers to Satan as the king of this world (and having been overthrown), not as king of hell. Hell is his punishment as well as for humans that die in mortal sin.

Well, I stand corrected again and again and again and again…
If I live long enough I will have to look it up.

For reference:
The souls of those who depart this life in actual mortal sin, or in original sin alone, go down straightaway to hell to be punished, but with unequal pains (Session 6 — July 6,1439).
Emphasis mine. And general, non-council teaching does often emphasize that worse sinners will suffer more pains, depending upon how far they’ve distanced themselves from God/attachment to sin.

Well, this is not crystal clear. Did the council go on to define “unequal”? Indeed, perhaps God’s justice mandates punishment equal to the crime. I can see that, as it also punishes the devil by restricting him from doing his worst. A win-win for justice.

Then Christians believe that hell is an actual PLACE as well as a STATE (of mind)?

What then differentiates a super-long purgatory from an eternal hell for “lesser” sinners?

What does that mean: “Satan as the king of this world (and having been overthrown)”? I thought G-d is the king of this world.

There is a temporal aspect to purgatory, or else it would be a permanent state, and that has never been taught. Hell is eternal justice - heaven eternal reward. As per Revelation 21:27 “Nothing impure will enter it” (G-d’s Kingdom), thus we must be spiritually cleaned up for the banquet. I think of purgatory as the L-rd’s mud room.

Yes, because they persist in willing their enmity with God, even if lesser than others. God permits them to keep willing as they do.

I have been taught that earth is the “princedom” of the evil one. He is subject to G-d, but his time and power is limited.

Depends. There is sin which leads to death and other sin which does not. Only sin which leads to death merits eternal punishment.
